if i can turn stepan into dumba and graves into alex tuch im all over that.

im just not confident that derek stepan is the horse to hitch your wagon to when you've got mika and hayes there that can play the 1 and 2 C.

im a skating/speed guy. big time. and derek has neither. im sorry, he scares me.

matt dumba has always been an iterating player. loved him in his draft year.

he checks alot of boxes and seems like a gorton guy.

graves to me is a nice prospect but where will he play ?

If you are a skating/speed guy, Kevin Hayes as a second line center should scare you too.

Ugh odc, that deal is ugly for us imo. I'm not super high on Tuch/Kunin and we're losing our 1C without getting a roster C back while adding a 2nd pairing RHD?
How does that make sense for us?

And this is why I don't bieve Stepan is getting moved for a RD. If Stepan goes, either he brings back a younger replacement, or the Rangers have targeted a center in the draft they feel can be the long-term answer.

Or, they are really on the get younger kick (and btw, I am not a fan of this) and they move Miller BACK to center, giving us:

Zibs
Hayes
Miller
Lindberg

down the center.

What does it take to get Ellis from Nashville?

Nashville right now is looking at 8/1 protection. They're going to expose Neal, C. Smith, and Jarnkrok. LVGK going to get a good player from Nashville.

But, if they trade Ellis, they can swap to 7/3/1, and protect some of them + the guy they trade for.

Ellis is worth more to them then those 3 names. Sorry, but their #1 priority has to be protecting their top 4, that is where they make their runs from, not the front.

Probably Jarnkrok will be protected and Colin Wilson will be exposed.

I think the Preds are content with that. They'd rather lose a forward than break up the top-4 D. They've got Fiala coming on. Kamenev on his way. They just signed this kid Ejdsell who scored 57 points in 50 games in the SEL as a 21 year old.

Fair enough. Losing people for free just never sits right with me :P

Eh, I think Beaulieu has a bit more skill than Moore did. I think it's an attitude thing with Beaulieu. He had a bad season last year and still had 28 points in 74 games. Moore has never had over 22 in 63 (last year with Devils).

Beaulieu will also drop the gloves if he needs to (couple of fights last year) and he plays a chippy game from the back end.

Again, I'm not saying it has to be Beaulieu, but a player like him where a team isn't exactly super high on him but they may not want to just lose them for nothing. Find a happy medium and add some cheap depth (ala Holden last year)

I should have been more specific, sorry. I mean Beaulieu reminds me of Moore the way he is holding himself back. He has the talent, but seems to struggle to be consistent in his own zone, same as Moore.

Every team is going to lose someone for free. Even if the Preds traded Ellis to the Rangers for one of our forwards, assuming he's not exempt, they'd only be able to protect 2 of Smith, Wilson and Neal (plus Sissons, if they're impressed enough with his playoffs). Meaning one of those guys is likely gone in any scenario you choose for the Predators.

With the Stepan trade talk, how does everyone feel about Lindberg as a 3C? (Assuming we keep him)

He looked awesome in the playoffs.

Also, Tuch is slow, so not sure how that makes any sense.

alex tuch is a power forward with unbelievable hands and the ability to score goals. he's smart and talented.

hes a power forward who can dominate possession and will be a monster.

ive seen this kid play since he was a squirt.

I think Lindberg is solid at 3C, but they're going to need to bring in a competent 4C. Is Nieves ready for that role? Maybe.

oscar consistently over performs and has shown both a very high hockey iq and understated offense.

he's both very smart and very productive.

he is without question more than capable of being a true 3C on this team.

i have zero issues with having mika as the 1C- he was last year, when healthy and having kevin hayes play the 2C. those 2 guys give us both size and offensive talent up the middle.

oscar as the 3C is a nice play.

nieves or a sandpaper 4C who can muck it up works for me.

Skating/Speed might be looked at as redundant or a derivative. Its kind of like saying shooting/slapshot.

Agreed with you both about Oscar as a 3C. I think he's more than capable. And I certainly think a lineup with Mika-Hayes-OL-Nieves down the middle and a legit 1st pair RHD next to McD is better than Step-Mika/Mika-Step-Hayes-OL and a square peg in a round hole on the right next to McD.

If Stepan is traded, I would be okay with going with Zib, Hayes, Oscar down the middle this year. It may or may not work. We'll have to see how it plays out. If it does, great. If it doesn't work, we look to address it at the deadline or next summer.

Maybe we get a prospect center back in the deal for Stepan, or in a separate deal. Maybe that prospect is close to NHL ready and will be ready later this year or next year. We don't have to solve all of our problems right now. Let's make sure they are actually problems before we worry too much about addressing them.

If Step is traded, Rangers need to go get another C. Whether that is a prospect they think can grow into a big time C role or a guy on the verge of getting to that, they need to get it.

In addition to that, Rangers REALLY need (As Vally has put it) a "rat" type of player for their 3rd/4th line. Someone who can play AND get underneath the skin of opposing teams. Rousell, Kassian, Shaw - Those types of guys.
