I would pass very hard on Ay Ay Ron. What's it up to? 4-5 consecutive concussions before the age of 21? He's prone to concussions now. It would be an anomaly for him to go through the next 10 years of his career without further concussions problems and not be impaired by the after effects in some way.

He's also bad

Did someone mention Ekblad before? That's a nice one to day dream about. (Saying that without sarcasm haha)

It's been mentioned before, but the reactions were mixed.

$7.5m for 4 concussions, but he was tracking at a generational pace before that...

Would be a high-risk high-reward situation. But only if you can get him for 70 cents on the dollar, which probably isn't realistic.

He was tracking at a generational pace when Brian Campbell was dragging him around the ice.

It's not a high risk high reward because if he's shipped out at 70 cents on the dollar, it likely means he's worth 70 cents on the dollar.

70 on the dollar for a former number 1 is probably still pretty hefty.

Hypothetically what do you think he's worth in a trade?

The Rangers can protect defenseman now that they couldn't yesterday. That opens some new possibilities.

Some chatter on XM that Brendan Smith may be choosing between the Rangers and the Leafs. That may not turn out well.

Sensing that some potential deals will go right down to the deadline for submitting expansion protection lists. See who blinks. Saturday nbight and Sunday morning will be busy news times.

Just putting the numbers up for a Minnesota trade takedown and I have separately posed: stepan and Koivu are almost a wash, $6.5m and $6.75m respectively. Staal is $5.7m vs dumba's $2.55m.

50% retain on Staal is $2.85. The cap swap would be exactly $100k in difference. Add a mid level pick or exempt player for taking Staal.

Koivu has an NMC but I don't see an NTC.

I like. One thing to remember us they koivu requires Ed protection

Gorton is not forced to deal Stepan. He's likely listening to offers and has made Stepan available at the right price. There's no reason to dump Stepan for a cheap price.

This.

Koivu isn't going anywhere. He has a full no movement clause.

What I do know though is that Minnesota felt so unsure of their center ice this year that they traded for Hanzal at the deadline. I think their interest in a center is driven by a) Koivu's age and b) the ability of Staal and Granlund to swing out on the wing. They also understand that Stepan is a hometown guy who will be around for several years.

The Wild have all sorts of protection problems but I could see a forward + defenseman to the Rangers as plausible. Or perhaps a defenseman now (that the Rangers can suddenly protect) for a player to be named after the expansion draft.

I also know the Wild have some nice upcoming prospects that are probably ready to play in the NHL. That could also work.

I've long had the Wild (along with the Coyotes and the Golden Knights) as the three most logical landing places IF Stepan is traded.

Yea I'd think that too but they still have spots to fill. Can they being both Shatty and Smith in ?

Likely stuck w Staal so LD is set

There was an article yesterday, from Adrian Dater may be i can't remember, that said the cap would go up to $75MM if the players chose 1.5% escrow. If they chose the whole 5%, and apparently there is a faction withing the NHLPA that wants it, the cap would go up to around $77.5MM.

That would be an almost $5MM increase over last year.

With Klein likely retiring and Girardi's buy out that's another $5.6MM in cap space.

Think the Rangers were going into the off-season with something like $10MM in cap space before the Klein and Girardi moves, with a flat cap.

So my rough math the Rangers have about $20MM I cap space before the expansion draft and any other moves (like moving Staal or Holden).

Key players to resign are Zbad, Fast and Lindberg.

The problem is going to be cap for Minnesota. If the basis is Stepan and Dumba, that adds nearly 4 mil to their cap. If the cap is set at 75 mil, that only leaves them about 9 mil to re-sign Nino and Granlund, plus 2 other forwards and 3 dmen. We might need to take Pominville back to make it work, or they will need to make other deals to get under the cap.

Word is that today will start the trades being announced that have already been worked out that should lead to quite a flurry. Look out for Chicago and LA I heard. Gorton still keeping a tight lid, whatever comes out on them is apparently via the selectively designated mouthpiece LB or through other organisations (that Bob Mac and Friedman have caught on to). INTERESTING TIMES FOR SURE AFTER YESTERDAY:DOMINOES... ;)

I like the sound of that

Gorton has a lot of options. I'm not convinced Smith is brought back. I do think Shattenkirk remains the primary target for RD. To me, Florida is an obvious target for another RD.

It is already a very interesting off-season.

Since the trade deadline, we've seen this:

Added:
- Bereglazov
- Pionk
- Smith (Hope we re-sign him)
- Pedrie
- Lettieri
- Gropp
- Day*
- Zborovskiy*

Gone:
- Klein
- Glass
- Girardi
- Clendening

Then there's the change in management with possibly Arniel going to Buffalo and Ruff replacing him, Eminger and Ortmeyer joining the organization. Big changes already so far

Hey did you guys hear about these new head/brain transplants theyre doing thesw days? Do you guys think the Rangers are considering moving stepans head onto kreiders body? That way we could have one solid player and never have to see stepan skate or kreider make a decision again

At least potential options, who knows if any other GM want to dance.

With that said, its perfectly possible that Shatty is the target. But I think his primary option would be to do something else. Something bigger. I think its safe to say that we don't see Shatty as like a good No 1, he is getting a hefty pay for someone that -- at least in Gorton's view -- isn't a No 1. Or even a top pairing D believing the reports from Brooksie.

I would definitely prefer many other scenarios than Shatty. But who knows what options Gorton really have.

Still really intrigued to see why we made the move to open up an expansion protection spot on D. Could be as simple as keeping B Smith, or it could be a trade.

This week will be fun.

Ugh, damn it. I have a ton of work to finish today.
