I'm not falling for it.. theyve been saying theres going to be a rush of trades at every single "deadline" (last years draft, training camp, trade deadline) i dont see any more than 1 or 2 trades.. nothing overly dramatic.

main board says no Dumba for Stepan, even straight up.

Of course they did. They think our players are AHL-level.

Thank you.

We have an opportunity to trade a dime for a quarter. It should be explored, just like everything else. But unless you really rip a team off, like Skjei straight up for Trouba, don't do anything.

What a concept!

RB just loves attacking me for some reason. It's cool.

I mean it's an interesting idea and was a fun topic to explore. I think Skjei's offense is still going to be prevalent next year, and I don't want to move him

Eh the circumstances this time are a bit different.

We do see a lot of activity at the draft in some years and this years trade deadline was pretty active, almost all the moves were made before the last day though.

I think we'll see a dip. Not an egregious one, but a dip. Those secondary assist numbers scare me. That's all.

21 of 34 his assists were secondary... I wonder where that stacks up among d-men.... I'll run that right now and edit in a minute.

EDIT -

5v5, last year, 500 min TOI minimum.

D-men, on average, 48.1% of assists were PRIMARY.

Skjei checks in at 38.2%. Same sample size among d-men with at least 10 assists (141 players), Skjei ranked 116th in A1/A rate.

A few of our own think that Stepan is as well

I exaggerate, but the undervaluing of him is hilarious.

No matter how many times you cite past trades as equivalent value, or point out where the leverage lies in prospective trade scenarios, people insist otherwise. And, we even see it with Stepan. I will be completely shocked if Gorton settled for just Dumba as a return for Stepan.

So sign Shattenkirk resign Smith have Bear Gloves as the #3 on the right. McD, Skjei and a cheap #3 vet on the left if they can manage to move Staal?

Ok call me a little confused. NHL basically says don't say anything as far as moves and then there's a trade. Minn trades with Washington not a big deal but hopefully the first of many. Including some from our team aka Staal.

If Shattenkirk is willing to take a discount and do $6.2M 6 years, then I'd be happy with McDonagh-Shattenkirk, Skjei-Smith, Graves-Bereglazov, Staal to start the season and Staal can swap in for Graves. Or more likely, Graves will swap in for Staal to "rest" Staal and then never play again after November 10th.

He'll have an increased role and will play with better players. I'm not expecting a crazy increase, but I think it'll be the same if not better than last year. He may get more PP time too

I'm still thinking about that 3 way deal with Step to Nashville, Trouba to us, and Ekholm to WPG

If Stepan is traded, the main board will freak out.

He's a 26 year old center signed to a fair deal. All-around play easily top 30 in the league. Ton of playoff experience.

That is what just about every team needs. And why I think its insanely risky to deal Step. But he won't be cheap.

Well, a lot of people, including from our board doesn't think he's a 1C and therefore, the $6.5M isn't fair. It's kind of funny how Bob McKenzie intuitively thought Stepan is signed to a $6M contract.

Yeah, but his hair has aged like he is 40 and that is where the money is

Dat you Ronny Duguay?

I like the Shatty signing if the cap works out, very close now. It's a signing for the next 3-4 years, year 5 we'll be botching about it. He will decline rapidly at that time, still a no asset loss signing now I would do it.

One of these off-seasons Thornton will announce his retirement and there will still be people in here suggesting the Rangers sign him to a 1 year deal.

Am I the only one here that things that Stepan will not bring some huge return? Like maybe a 2nd round pick and a B level prospect or straight up for a serviceable #4 d-man?
