Wonder how many trades Chayka and Arizona are going to make. They've got a ton of open protection spots to put to use, if they so choose.

It's very annoying the NHL has essentially put a gag on announcing trades.

I believe the gag order from the league is just on trades with Vegas. I think moves for teams to get ED compliant will be announced, just not the ones that deal with Vegas directly.

Yeah, expansion draft day is going to have 150 trades. There will be so many trades announced it will be difficult to process all of them. The NHL should have allowed 4-5 a day to be announced to make our days more interesting.

I remain skeptical it's not all movement considering the lack of anything we're hearing.

Just need my fix! I've got the shakes!

Teams are probably treating Saturday as a mini-deadline event. Still a lot of posturing and stuff I'd imagine. The league wants the rosters to be set in time for the expansion stuff to start, but it'd be a little bit weird if information about protection lists started leaking before they had announced trades. A tweet on Sunday about Minnesota's list including Stepan as a protected forward before any trade had been announced would be hilarious.

Day of the expansion draft, so during the NHL Awards. They want people to watch. This will provide ratings boost.

Thanks. Saturday is when the trade freeze takes place, so I guess any trades that will occur before the expansion draft will happen today or tomorrow.

Yeah, when talking about that possible scenario after a Stepan trade, Hayes as the #2 is far more concerning than OL as the #3.

so then you are saying those 2 are both 3C's

oscar is too good to play 4C minutes

hayes is too talented to play the 3C imo. he hasn't put it together totally yet but he has shown he's capable of driving a line.

his numbers the last 3 seasons (16/27/43) tell me he's poised to keep improving and will be more than capable of centering a line of swift scoring type wingers.

I believe the trade freeze is for trades between two teams that aren't Vegas. If one of the participating teams is Vegas, I think trades are still allowed, AFAIK.

Hayes has not shown he's capable of driving a line at all these past two years. Dude is overrated and is going to ask for a stupid amount of money.

Yeah. As one of KH's biggest defenders last year, this past season was a true dark-mark on his progression. Despite his slash stats... he really didn't have a good year at all.

I'm confident he'll be an important player for this team in the future, but I'm not ready to trade Stepan and hand him the 2C duties.

I think Hayes is fine in the role he has had, but I don't see enough consistency for him to make me think he's a top-six center. I think he's shown he's capable of being useful on a line that has two wingers playing very well. I don't think he drives it though.

If you think we need to trade Stepan at 27 b/c of his salary and NTC, you're gonna really love the deal we give a 26 yr old Hayes if he's chosen to stay and Step goes.

To be fair, I would like to see him with some better linemates. Maybe that can happen this season, but I don't think he's a long term solution to the top 6 in a center role. Maybe the team thinks differently, especially with the Stepan trade talk, that he can do it.

We don't have any other internal options, and unless they want to pay for someone in free agency to fill that void, which I cannot think of someone who would be able to in this class, he'd have to fill that role.

I can't see them giving Hayes anything crazy. Likely 4.5-5 anually, long term. Not that it's not more than he deserves, but it's better than 6.5 for a 1C/2C who, although consistent, doesn't produce for 6.5.

Yeah, so how's that going to work? Are they going to legit announce trades in between awards?

Yes. I think it would have been a lot more fun to combine it with the entry draft.

After every pick, the Vegas organization announces who they drafted from the original team whose pick was just used.

"The New Jersey Devils are proud to select Nico Hischier, from Halifax in the QMJHL"
"The Vegas Golden Knights select Beau Bennett from the New Jersey Devils in the expansion draft

- short break, looking at the player the Devils got, and the one they lost -

On to pick no 2.

And so on, and so on.

i make a legit offer to minny :

derek stepan plus ryan graves for matt dumba and Alex tuch or luke kunin. either of those guys would instantly become our top forward prospect. we get our young righty man and a talented forward kid.

There's a deal to be made here but I think you are right about the Rangers having to take back more salary. Minnesota has the right pieces and the most pieces to make a win-win trade.

Word is that Chayka is a very tough negotiator and drives a hard bargain. Heard some of this last year and assume it is still true now. For better or worse, not a good ol' boy.
