and I thought Gabby was a Gutless player in the Playoffs in 12'. I wanted Gaborik out in the worst way because I thought he was the softest, heartless player I had ever seen. Rick Trash has completely changed that and actually makes me yearn and long for <gulp> Gaborik. Is that even possible? Is this how Bad this Trash of a player has been???!!!

All of this for the most part is a myth.
Redden - was considered in decline and a horrendous signing immediately when he signed the deal and before he ever played a game.

Gomez - Was good while here. Had a 70 points season and then a 58 point season. Nothing too far off his career.

Drury - His first two years here were also in line with the rest of his career (overpaid due to two huge years post-lockout with insanely high shooting %)

Frolov - Never was really considered a star but yea this was a bust but I mean we signed him for 1 year 3 million..

Kamensky - Disappointment

Fleury - Was really good for us so I'm not sure what the issue is here

MSL - No clue what's going on here. He was great in TB this year and has come here and not looked the same at all. I have confidence he'll get back to that player

Nash - was great his first year here disappointing this year but still was a top goal scorer and had some injury issues.

Richards - Very disappointing. Even his first year which was "good" was way worse than anything he'd done before.

Holik - Was fine. Overpaid and unrealistic expectations. He was almost the same player here he was in NJ.

You fail to see the point. When you thought of Bobby Holik in 2001, you thought of meanest, toughest playoff tested shutdown center. He came here and was a byword for not trying.

I'm not getting into the rest. They all came here for money and their reputations took a beating. Deny it all you want.

No it's mostly the same thing as Nash. You can be a good player but when you're paid way more than you deserve you just get bashed based on your contract (which was kind of illogical back then as there was no cap). Additionally many of those players did not come here solely for "money" as some were trades and others were UFA's that had similar offers from lots of teams

Holik in NJ and Holik on NYR were two completely different players. One was David Backes/Milan Lucic, the other was current-iteration-of-Rick-Nash. The contract just added to the absurdity.

Nash

So according to most of us rangers fans on this thread one player makes all the difference. I am not blaming nash but lets say he scored one goal a game vs pitt we would still be losing the series. Winning in the playoffs is about team and not about one player. I would like to get clear of Brad Richards he's not worth 6+ million. For the love of god let Brian Boyle walk he's big for nothing. Sign Paul Stasny and maybe bring back Pulli. This would give us a better 2 way player than Stephan and strengthen the team down the middle.

Rick Nash has been trash so far in the playoffs,

My gut feeling is Nash would be a great player if he is a secondary, preferably tertiary weapon. He is a passenger in every sense of the word. He's not a leader, he's not a go to guy. He doesn't know how to properly use teammates, but he's lethal when he gets time and space. Look at Gaborik on LA. That's not a coincidence, nor is it just luck. He has time and space to operate and has a world class C. If Nash were in a similar position, I think he'd be valuable, just not 7.8 valuable. I

think of guys like James Neal, or a Patrick Sharp. I'm not going to compare their style to Nash, just guys that succeed as complimentary pieces, not as the "go to" guys on their teams.

Do you realize Gaborik was playing with a torn rotator cuff in those playoffs?

Gaborik is playing on LAs top line. He is a primary guy to defend.

The difference is he is healthy.

Rangers never had a healthy gaborik for the playoffs

He's getting booed publicly now. It was loud and obvious when he was skating with the puck. Once you lose the crowd, its pretty tough to get it back. Hopefully after next season of getting booed he's looking to waive that NMC...

His NMC expires after next season, then it's a NTC. Can you bury that much salary in Hartford?

Sharp very much is a go to guy for Hawks and his playoffs have shown he isn't a comparable for Neal (I don't recall Neal having a big playoff yet in his career)

-In 2010 he led Hawks in playoff goals (11) and was 3rd in pts (22)
-Last year he led NHL in playoff goals (10)

Part of the Hawks struggles in this playoff year has been the horrid play of Sharp who is best goal scorer on team

I think the point was not that Sharp doesn't produce (and sometimes lead his team in production), it's just that he isn't the number one focus of the opponent's defense. Sharp will probably never win a Stanley Cup if he is the best offensive player on his team, even if he is a 30+ goal scorer and a good playoff performer.

Nash back to Columbus just for Dubinsky. I would do it.

It's not that I hate Nash but he's just not a big game player. He knows what he needs to do. He tries. He doesn't get it done. Dubinsky is a gamer. A heart and soul player. He was always good in the playoffs for us--same with the Bluejackets. Not a big time scorer but he finds ways to help his team.

This isn't true one bit.

Yes it is. You Dubi haters were always misguided, always craving the name over all else, and he's proving you wrong in Columbus now where he very well might be their captain next season.
