Return for Matthews in a trade

The return for Matthews is based on whether a team can sign him and for how long. He’s probably looking for a 3 to 5 yr deal which will lower his trade value a little.

Horvat probably costs a 1st to dump at this point. If Tavares is a bad deal as a PPG C for 11 I don’t see how Horvat is good value at 8.5 for 60 points.

Horvat looks like a classic buy low situation, that is if Lou is willing to move him. Plenty of players struggle their first season with a new team, and the Islanders system doesn't do any favours for their players' stat lines.

Simply, I'd suggest his 30+ goal pace the past 2 years on the Canucks is more indicative of his level than 20 goal pace on the Island. And at 8.5 with the cap expected to go up relatively dramatically in the next few years, still risky if he doesn't get back to his west coast level but I'd at least explore it.

I love the optimism shown from some fans but sadly if AM refuses to agree to sign July 1...prior to July 1 we ain't gonna get much for him.

It's too bad the voters in Tempe AZ turned down the new development the Yotes were going to build. Even though slim, that would have been a possible landing spot for Matthews with or without a new contract.......maybe!

The only young center in the league that really intrigues me for Matthews, that is on a team Matthews would probably sign with, is Wyatt Johnston.

I would definitely do a AM for Wyatt. Dallas isn't doing it w/o some assurance AM signs with them though. (at a reasonable contract)

Gross if its 1 for 1

Wyatt Johnson ceiling is Nylander type player

Wyatt Johnson + the D prospect they drafted in 2022 18OA +2024 unprotected 1st for Matthews at an ectended deal I would be interested in

Allow AM to talk to Stars and if he agrees to a sign and trade, then yes, I agree with you.

If he doesn't agree to sign July 1 and Dallas is willing to take the risk, you won't get that package for AM

Just curious, is it because you think Horvat is a legit number 1c?
No because Pelech is a legit top pair shutdown D. And then with Horvat you can get a good top 6 C as well.

But I think we would be good just to run it back. I'm just talking about if Matthews doesn't want to sign, that's a move I could wrap my head around.

I wonder if Tampa would trade Cirelli+Cernak for Matthews with the acknowledgement that he will re-sign. They aren't afraid of bold moves.

I still feel that the leafs would be best to run it back with a new coach.

If there was a Tkachcuk player available in trade like there was last year for Matthews or Marner then I'd strongly consider it, but Matthews and Marner are both the best free agents over 2024 and 2025 by far and i'm not seeing a good trade scenario here.

Not to blame it all on one guy, but Keefe juggling the lines game to game for the entire playoffs never let our guys get in a groove. Tavares-Nylander never worked.

Tavares-Matthews-Marner
Knies-O'Reilly-Nylander

This top 6 should be a given a chance.

Why do you believe in these players? Also - it's safe to assume ROR is not returning based on all media reports.
