So long and thanks for all the fish! What a warrior on the ice and nice guy off it. Good luck to him!

From a team/organizational perspective, it had to be done.

Still a sad day. 11 years of service, and nobody can say the guy didn't give it his all each and every game. Took countless beatings for this team, and kept coming back for more. Part of the core that brought us so many good memories.

Thank you, G. Best of luck.

All is okay with management's decision after all. We couldn't realistically plan to compete with the defense we had heading into the past season. Girardi and Staal were both anchors, Holden is an ideal 3rd pairing man playing on his off side, Skjei was unproven, and our 7th D was also unproven. Throw an injury in there with Klein, it wouldn't have made enough of a difference. Now we have Beargloves and Pionk to fit into the core over the next 1-2 seasons and G's penalties are much smaller. If management is this cap conscious about G's buyout, I doubt we will buyout Staal next season.

I will absolutely miss Girardi the person.

I will not miss Girardi, the player he is now.

It will be strange not seeing him out there next season wearing #5.

Bittersweet news. Guy was nothing but heart & class for this team, but it was a move that had to be made.

Unfortunately something happened during the playoff run of '14. We literally watched his body give out during the Finals. The turnover in OT of Game 1 was the beginning of the end. He almost looked drunk with the amount of times he turned the puck over in his own end, sometimes with no pressure on him at all. I'm sure it was a combination of injury & exhaustion, but it was painful to watch.

Good luck in the future, DG.

Very conflicted feelings. He's been horrendous for a good two seasons now, maybe even longer. He was an anchor to McDonagh and the team in general and I honestly couldn't wait to see him go. This was 100% the right move and a necessary move. All that being said, it was sad seeing this happen. He gave this team some great years, is a great person, was beloved by his teammates, and gave it his all on the ice. He may not have been good out there but you couldn't question his will to win and the lengths he'd go to to try and help them win.

I wish him nothing but the best and hope he lands a place on a team somewhere.

Inevitable, but it's a sad day to be a Rangers fan.

Who was the last "significant" home grown that the Rangers had to part ways with? Hagelin, Cally, Dubinsky, Anisimov had not been this prominent when they were traded. Do we need to look all the way to the purge of 2004?

Probably Callahan.

Very bittersweet. I liked him as a person and thought he was an absolute warrior. I know calling him a warrior has been a bit of a meme lately but this dude gave it his all. Blocked shots, hit everyone, it's a shame these things broke him down. Was a good top pairing guy at one point and it annoys me whenever someone ***** on him. I'm happy he's off this team but at the same time it will be pretty weird not seeing Girardi out there wearing #5 on the Rangers. Worked his ass off every game and when I heard the news the Rangers were buying him out I jumped with joy and then it kind of hit me how weird it would be without warrior Girardi out there for us. I wish it was Staal instead but oh well. I have a weird feeling he'd be really good as a coach. PS GMJG if you're reading this pls don't make this the first step in signing Shatty to a terrible contract

Based off what? He was playing in the AHL up until last season. He has no scouting experience.

No idea, i didnt hire him. But finding a job for Girardi just because we found one for Eminger sounds even dumber than just hiring Eminger if he doesn't have the required SKA either.

No you find a job for him because of,what he did for the organization for the last decade.
