Best of luck to the Gman.

For those who are younger and had all but hate for the guy, he had more good years than bad. Guy was a top pariing shut down defensemen who could play all night. Came out of nowhere and grew up with the team. Thats a rarity for defenseman in this league. Honestly one of the toughest players in the history of the franchise. Guy would take a beating year after year and it finally took a toll on him the last few seasons. His sacrifice to the team should not go unnoticed. Happy to see him get paid out and hope he gets another sturdy contract somewhere to finish out his career. I still think he has something left in the tank and will be an asset to a team who uses him properly.

But this is an essential move going forward. Thanks for the memories.

Interested to see where he ends up. Girardi is still serviceable and could provide some decent veteran minutes next season if he ends up in the right situation.

I've already seen fans of other teams that trashed him all of a sudden saying that they hope they sign him as a cheap third pairing guy. Too funny.

F u AV, it's partially your fault. I will hate seeing G in another jersey.

So our bottom pair for now is Holden - Bear Gloves. Smith is probably brought back to play with Skjei. McD - ?

Thank you for being a Ranger and literally giving your body for this team to win. Great guy and I'm sure was a better teammate. Best of luck to him and his family in the future.

So, AV plays Girardi on the top pairing most of the season, but he gets bought out immediately. Maybe there is a disconnect between the coaching staff and front office?

I'd probably feel worse learning there isn't a disconnect.

He'll probably go on to have a Rozsival-like post-Rangers career.

Girardi now is so much worse than Rozsival was when he left NYR it's not really comparable.

Rozy was actually always a pretty good shot suppressor. Fans mostly hated the guy because he was 'soft' and stopped putting up points, as far as I remember.

He was never as bad as we all (read: most of us) portrayed him as.

I wish Dan every success in the world. I can not remember anyone sacrificing their body for this team more than Dan Girardi did in the last 11 years. I'm proud he was a NY Ranger. From undrafted to a spot on the all star team. He should be very proud of his career.

Sens fan here, not sure if any other Sens fans have asked this, but do you guys see him as still being a serviceable 5/6 guy if signed at the right price. A lot of mixed opinions on the Sens board about whether he'd be worth pursuing so just curious.

I think he'd be a serviceable 5/6 for Binghamton.

Absolutely worth the risk for the right price.

He's honestly worthless at his point. He's much too slow to play on the NHL. He's a #6-7 defenseman...

To the people claiming he was a legitimate shut down defenseman, he's had the worst set of stats for all rangers defensemen in the last 15 years. See raspewtins post about it...

Girardi was a great player considering what he cost us to get (undrafted)... He's also had the luxury of playing on a team with a top 15 defenseman in mcdonagh, and a top 5 goalie in lundqvist for his ENTIRE career... 11 seasons sounds great, but girardi has never been more than an overpaid #3 defenseman playing with a top 15 defenseman his entire career. I can't sit here and go against every stat line in the book, all of which say that he was never that great of a defender.

That contract extension in 2014 was a disaster, and management should never have signed him to it. Rangers would have been better off signing Matt Niskanen that offseason
