That's a very fair deal. I'm happy. And I'm glad to have Girardi for potentially the rest of his career.

Girardi being a top dman is way more valuable than cally who
Is a grinding 3 rd line NHL winger who can score only 20-25 goals. If Girardi is only getting 5.5million a year then Cally should not get a penny more. At least that my opinion.

Go away for the day and come back and this is what happens. It's a good signing for the Rangers. He's a solid guy. I didn't want to be moving both him and Callahan. I know that some think differently but I think this will be good for us.

Continuity. It's a good thing. Tons of turnover is rarely beneficial, unless you have a team that's a ****ing mess. We may not be the model of consistency, but we have some nice pieces, and Girardi is one. Glad we're keeping him around.

Excellent deal...Callahan fairwell my friend

We need to lock up Staal in the summer.

Trade Cally for offense

And to consider this guy, who in my opinion is one of the best RHD in the league, was acquired undrafted and will play his whole career in the beautiful blue.

Girardi is one of the players I like best on the Rangers. Some people almost accuse him of benefitting by playing first with Staal and then McDonagh. I would put it down as 'works well with others'. Yeah--he's not the greatest skater or a big point producer but he's also proved he can play huge amounts of really tough minutes against the leagues best players. To me he's an underrated player on these boards.

I've said all along you need to move either Girardi or Stralman.

I was very intrigued by what Girardi could bring back in a deal, but he takes 2 years less than the max term, likely $1MM less in AAV than he could have made on the open market, and the NMC becomes a limited NTC in the last three years? Great deal - no brainer to keep him.

Yes, you'd like to see a little more offense out of him, but his D is 1st pair quality and that contract is pretty darn close to what you'll see for 2nd pair dmen going forward.

Now trade Stralman for Vatanen. :)

Pairing McDonagh with him also allows McD the freedom to jump up and takes risks the way he has been this year.

Would've preferred less years, but good deal. Glad to have you back G.

Thank god thats over now lets see what happens with Cally.

Very happy to have G back for 6 more years!

I will be honest: I was asking to trade Girardi. Picks/prospects. Didn't think he was fit for AV's system.

But the guy eats 20-25 minutes a night on the right side. Blocks shots. Ironman. I am happy with this signing, especially at the cap hit.

Girardi will likely retire a Ranger. :handclap:
