Sweet lord that's a big contact. But it's only half a million more than my limit. He better play good.

Now lets keep Stralman.

Oh, and if he stays relatively healthy and here in NY for the duration of that contract, he will very likely end up in the top 5 NY Rangers all time in games played.

Guy may well be a career Ranger. Longest tenured save Henrik.

That's one piece of business down, and the terms aren't horrible.

when was the last time an undrafted player that signed with one team, stayed with one team?? St.Louis does not count since he was signed by Flames and waived..

I do think he left some potential money on the table to stay here. Kudos on that front, I won't forget it. Could be a candidate for Captaincy.

I'm with you on that. That is the kind of thing a leader does ... looks at the big picture. Not that I have anything against Cally looking to get every dollar he can (he certainly has earned that right) but to be a leader sometimes you must make personal and small sacrifices for the bigger and greater good.

What a relief. It's disappointing that Cally won't be taking such a reasonable contract. Great to keep at least one of them, and I'm happy it's Girardi. Means our top pair is solidified for five more years at a ridiculously low price!

I knew the Callahan/Girardi holding out going to another team together was dumb notion. G was undrafted, the Rangers took a chance on him when no one else would. I really didn't think he was going to leave. Love this contract.

We have two defensive pairings for the forseable future, McD-Girardi and Moore-Klein, the status of Stralman and Staal is more in doubt.

Super excited he stays and glad he is a ranger for life. Kid was a nobody who is now a very rich NYC athlete .. Great job Danny boy

That only means something to some fans. Players understand this is their livelihood and they don't begrudge a guy because he took more money. Do you think anybody on the Rangers holds any ill will to Lundqvist because he didn't take less money? No because that's not how the vast majority of players think.

not really. his buddy Girardi is staying. Maybe he caves and takes 6 million......I cant believe I just he would cave at 6 million. Just take Cally!!!!!!

Listen, i love Cally, but fark us if we pay $6M for a 3rd line wing.

he left money on the table...we all know it.

That's proving that "he wants to be here"

do you see Cally leaving this kinda money on the table?

unlikely.

Fair contract with the expectation that the cap will keep rising but I wish he brought just a little bit more offense. I put him behind McDonagh and Staal.

It does make you wonder what Staal might ask for, with his injury history it would ostensibly be a bit less, but you never know for sure.

This is great just because it means the team doesn't have to trade a staple D in the middle of a playoff run. You could try to stretch Klein and Stralman together over those minutes, but come playoffs against top teams you would be able to notice the difference.

Great contract.

Girardi would have gotten more if he wanted to take the Callahan way.
