it would work exactly like the winter classic works. the home team STH get priority, followed by priority/lottery for away team season ticket holders. there will probably not be a public onsale for tickets to either game.

Pretty sure all season ticket holders will be given an opportunity to purchase tickets.

I really don't understand what people are complaining about. Who cares if they wear white or blue jerseys? Does it really matter? This whole thing is a win-win for the Rangers, can't wait for these games.

I asked someone about the Rangers not being the home team. It appears the Rangers lease agreement with the City of New York doesn't allow them to play home games outside of Madison Square Garden. The Garden will continue to get the tax breaks Ed Koch gave them as long as they play their home games at the Garden. Its an eternal tax break. It comes out to about $15M per year.

Very interesting. At least that makes sense...

So... The Rangers will never host a Winter Classic in NYC?

But didn't they play a "home" game against Tampa a few years back when they opened the season in the Czech Republic? That was in another freaking country!

The lease agreement may be true, but I doubt this is the reason. There was talk of a Rangers-Bruins WC @ Yankee Stadium before Pinstripe Bowl started. There are always ways around it. Grease up the right politician and a waiver can be approved.

Agree.
Both season ticket holder fan bases have been given opportunity to purchase tickets for these outdoor games, so the crowd is guaranteed to be split to some degree.
This is an advanatge for the Rangers. We keep 41 home games at MSG.

Outside of jersey color (and maybe the goal horn?) is there a difference?

I can see them using both goal horns.

Hockey is at its roots an outdoor game. I want more of it. Hopefully all the teams can get involved yearly.

I dunno about every team... Do you really want to watch an outdoor home game for the Lightning at Raymond James Stadium? The game would be such crap unless they can do it at night in December, even then that's a big risk.

The lease agreement was the reason that the Rangers WC game never got off the ground in Yankee Stadium. The Wall Street Journal had an article a few years back detailing this.

Devils starting to promote:
