Welp, there goes any integrity this event ever had.

I disagree entirely. The Isles and Devils were never getting a winter classic. NBC woudln't have it. This is the way to get these teams in an outdoor game. The Winter Classic will still be the showcase. These games will get a lot of hype in NY and be great for the local fans. My only gripe is they should be doing it at Giants Stadium in February. However, I understand the desire to do this in the week leading up to the Super Bowl. Although, not sure why they couldn't have the Rangers-Isles game on Saturday instead of Wednesday.

As for me, I will hold off getting excited until I see ticket prices. If they are similar to the price in Philly, I will not be attending.

Smart idea to have the Rangers as the road team in both games. They will still sell out 41 home games + these two outdoor games.

If the Rangers were the home team, you'd be taking two sellouts away from the Rangers at MSG while giving the Islanders and Devils a home game in their arenas that most likely won't sell out.
Uhm, Rangers games sell-out in both arenas. The game this past Saturday, the cheapest pair on stubhub were listed for $200 each.

Well one way or another someone is inaccurate. TSN says the rangers are the home team (which makes sense over new jersey) and local reports say the opposite.

Both STH bases will be offered seats, so outside of which jersey the teams wear (and they'll probably create something new anyway) I am not sure it matters who is home does it?

I'd rather the Devils and Isles are home so we don't lose any MSG games.

Am I missing something?

The NHL is being politically correct by playing two games at Yankee Stadium, giving the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils a chance to face the New York Rangers.

Don't underestimate the value of the game giving both the Islanders and Devils a boost in season-ticket sales. That's particularly important for the Islanders, who plan to move to Brooklyn in a couple of seasons.

The NHL has wanted to go to Yankee Stadium since unveiling the outdoor concept in 2008, but a college bowl game has gotten in the way.

Are they playing that Pejorative Slured "Hey, you suck!" song when the Devils score?

So, if both teams' season ticket holders get first crack at tickets, as well as probably Yankee ticket holders, what would be left for general sale ??

I would assume there would be anywhere from 10k all the way up to 20k in general sales.

Assuming each arena's entire capacity was season ticket holders there would still be plenty of available seats. For example:

NYR 18200
+
NJD 17625
=
35,825

Yankee Stadium Capacity: 50291

50291
-
35825
=
14,466

Did they sell every seat in the house for the past WC's? I'm assuming some seats would have absolutely terrible views for hockey.

Yes, but the poor seats were severely discounted. I think in Philly some seats were $30 and $40, the first few rows behind the dugout. You were too close to see anything, you had to watch the whole game on the jumbotron

On the Hotstove(HNIC)last Saturday, the panel discussed the outdoor games. The Rangers don't like the 2 games set up. They don't like being the road team twice. $$$$. They also don't like playing 2 outdoor games when points are so hard to get. The NHL wanted 2 outdoor games because of the Devils and Islanders. They didn't want to offend either team.

NHL money man John Collins found a sponsor for the outdoor games. Bridgestone is the Winter Classic sponsor. More money for the NHL and the players.

Didn't we win a winter classic 'on the road' ?

Yeah, not sure what the issue is on that one. The Rangers will get a large block of tickets FOR FREE to sell to fans. They will make A LOT more money on these games than on a normal road game. Really do not get why they are complaining.

So here's an idea.

Have the devils play the islanders at YS, twice. And leave the rangers out of it.

NHL is a business first and foremost.

If I'm working to improve the NHL fanbase, I'd want more of what people seem to really like.

I totally get that. Sad that they'll destroy the winter classic by jamming outdoor games down everyone's throats a dozen times a year before too long. At some point they'll dilute the product to the point where nobody (other than the actual fans of the teams playing) will even care to watch it.
