Rangers Development Camp '23

the most uncertain aspect of NYR off season
Sykora - could return to Slovak league,
- play in Europe in higher caliber league like SHL,
- play Major Junior in WHL (rights held by Medicine Hat, but post WJC, rumors of trade to maybe? Saskatoon)
- play AHL w Pack

not a CBA geek, not sure which of those scenarios would be slides or not

All of these would result in an ELC slide for Sýkora.

Love these vids. Dan Muse looked pumped for Perreault.

Notice when one of the scouts talk about VO2 results. I looked up the top 25 in the VO2 test and Perrault isn't one of them. The only top 25 VO2 in the 1st round that the NYR could have drafted at 23 were Bradly Nadeau or David Edstrom. I think they were talking about Bradly Nadeau ( he tested top 3) as their pick before Perrault dropped into their laps. That would of have been a good pick also. A good skater, with a deadly shot. C/RW. The rest of the talk about hockey IQ , elite playmaker could have been about Perrault.

Oh wow. I was not aware that a contract could slide in the AHL. Is that due to Sykora's age as of signing?
It's based on his current age. 18 and 19 year old players slide if they don't play a certain number of NHL games. IIRC, the player's age is as of Sept 15th, and the max a player can play and still slide is 9 games.

Correct. But it only applies for players who sign their ELC in the calendar year of their 18th or 19th birthday.

Casey Mittelstadt for instance, signed at the end of his D+1 and while only being 18 years old at the time, he turned 19 later that year (2018) so he was not slide eligible.

Not that this affects Sýkora but thought it was worth mentioning.

The 2020 and 2021 drafts are pretty much talked about because of Lafrenière, Schneider, Cuylle, Garand and Othmann but it's the mid-round picks that really did well post-draft.

Chmelař wasn't even ranked by most outlets. Yet he's a guy that really surprised me in a positive way. Then you have Brody Lamb, who needs a few years to mature physically, and Väisänen who exceeded expectations.

Throw in 2019 draft pick Adam Edström and you have a lot of reasons to be excited about these later draft picks.

I know Ranger fans aren't too excited about Roobroeck and I share that sentiment but mostly because I do not like drafting 19-year olds. But he could very well grow into a bottom 6 role. And in the 5th and 6th round you aren't passing on sure-fire stars anyway.

yea chmelar has really impressed me at wjc. he doesn't get much notice or pile up points, but he does a lot of things off the puck that are valuable. he can really move for a big body and he plays a heavy game / goes to the tough areas of the ice and bullies people. we all saw the role barbashev played for vegas and maybe he doesn't have as much offense, but he has a chance to be something like him.

lamb also blew me away at the frozen 4. i wasn't expecting much with his ushl numbers after what he did in hs, but on a loaded minn team he was really noticeable in his icetime. he skates extremely well and flashed nice puck skills. still long odds for him, but he did flash the potential to be a real good player. this will be a big year for him, saw an article about snuggerud mentioning lamb would be playing with him and cooley. not sure where that's coming from, but if true would be great for him for him and an indicator of what minn sees in him.

Nothing has been confirmed with Sykora. It’s basically WHL, AHL, or back to Europe. He would be one of the youngest players if he plays in the AHL, i’m not so keen on that. Hoping he ends up in the WHL to continue to work on his offensive skills in the smaller rink. If he’s in the AHL it will stunt his offense.
nothing confirmed but sounds like he wants to play in the ahl, so if it's his preference i'm ok with it. speaks good english and seems to be pretty outgoing / has explicitly spoken about enjoying his experience there. i generally lean towards keeping european kids overseas for a couple years to be in a more comfortable environment off ice that eliminates being homesick or outside their comfort zone, but his case seems like an outlier. i'm not worried about his offense, his game isn't going to be defined by offense anyway. he may end up producing more than expected, but it'll be a product of the way he plays now that generates it. if he can play a top 9 role and genuinely prefers playing here, it'll be good for him.

Bootlicker mentality. They think criticising your favourite team makes you a "fake fan" or something. We aren't asking for unreasonable things here. All I want is for them to do what other teams are doing. They don't have to invent new shit, be pioneers or anything. Just do what others are doing and a lot of fans will be a lot happier.

But no. They act like they are royalty. Want to talk about entitlement? The Rangers org is entitled.

Did I ever say they cared about you? The Dolan's are super wealthy corporatists very much interested in the bottom line. They do their charity stuff etc. but like others of the super wealthy they're use to picking and choosing for you. If you're asking me Eat the Rich. If you're so pissed about it stop buying all the jerseys and chasing prospects all over the globe.

As far as your complaint here are you really surprised when they haven't done anything like it for years? I mean WTF! Expected behavior.

I don't expect any better, but that doesn't mean fans shouldn't call it out.

Kid’s gonna be a fan favorite

What they do with him is going to be really interesting.

Unless he gets top minutes in the AHL along with time on both ST's, the dub may be his best option. I forget who AK said would trade for him if he went that way (Blades?) but I'd encourage him to stay in MH. He'll play with McKenna who is the stud of all studs.

The way HFD is shaping up, it looks like they’ll have top-6 spots for both of Othmann and Sykora if needed, and I think that would be the best for both. I think the WHL would help for the offensive numbers, but I think it’ll be better for him to learn how to use his speed when he has less time/space to make moves

True, but that will be there for him next year as well. He'll be a very young 20 going into 2024-25.

I really would like him to get the maximum time trying to develop that offensive tool kit. Even if top 6 spots are there in Hartford, I'd think that the PP time will likely go to the vets (and Othmann.)

They used to say that Tiger Woods was better at golf than anyone else in the world when it comes to any other craft but the way these kids light up when talking about Jed and Tanner I think we have to pass on that distinction.
