Rangers Development Camp '23

Hey, at least mollie and Vince are out there. More than can be said for the rest. Hell, it's damn near more than the Rangers themselves.

Lewis is a hulking behemoth who was playing in the USHL.

Panwar played with Othmann in Flint. He's a big nothing IMO.

Siedem played with Karpa at Harvard. He's okay, can move the puck a little. Not a pro, I don't think.

Bookman played with Ollas and may be a late bloomer. Worth a look.

The rest I've either never seen or don't remember seeing.
Was coming here to post about Bookman. Same sentiment, could be a late bloomer. He was really good for Merrimack. Good skater and puck mover. I hope he sticks.

The Rangers are one of the few NHL teams to never allow fans to attend prospect development camp. It's pathetic.
I remember years ago they allowed fans to attend the prospect game, it was somewhere in Connecticut. Kravstov was there, maybe he was 18 or 19. I went with a friend which was a lot of fun. Saw Jed in the hallway and he talked to the fans for a bit. Don’t think they have done that since.

Big time. Back home in San Jose the camp is open to anyone. Along with the prospect games that then culminate into the big teal vs white game at the tank. At this point they are just spitting in our face. Haha

They are an arrogant organization who are very short-sighted and small minded. They live in their own world and the guy leading it is among the most hated owners in NYC, maybe in North American pro sports. Whatever direction an organization is going in, it all starts at the top. They've won 3 league championships in 83 years (NY Knicks in 1970, 1973; NY Rangers in 1994).

They must think that letting people in to see prospects camps would be divulging nuclear secrets. It's ridiculous.

I would love these vids if they showed us something we didn’t already know. Would be cool to see the draft board, for example.

I can’t ever imagine the Rangers doing that.

Most teams don’t but I do remember the flyers releasing something a while ago where their top 15 or so was revealed. Got to hear the scouts argue for their guys too. It was pretty cool.

It’s almost as though the NHL doesn’t care about entertaining people.

I’ll tell you what, some teams at least know how to have fun. I could not care less about the Rangers being “classy”. I just want to be entertained.

They did in 2019 thankfully, in Stamford, CT. Only because the MSG training center was undergoing renovations.

But that was a fun week. So many future NHL players at that camp. Got to meet Fox, Jones, Shesterkin, Kakko, Kravtsov, K'Andre Miller, Morgan Barron, Lundkvist, Robertson, etc.

I'd be thrilled if he became Carl Hagelin 2.0. He already has better hands than Carl. But a pest with a great motor and above average hands is super valuable to have.
Sykora has the tools to be an effective NHL player. It's all going to hinge on where he finds himself physically as he fills out. If he ends up with a body that can withstand the rigors of the NHL (not a given, and genetics plays a part), and has the hockey IQ to not put himself in positions to get concussed or otherwise injured out of the league, I think he will do very well.

The NHL cares. Certain individual teams simply don't care.
I think it's a certain level of arrogance. NYC is the largest metro area in CAN/US (won't say NA because I think Mexico City is slightly larger). There's a huge built-in fanbase, so I think the organization doesn't feel the need to really fight for fans on the margins like other clubs do. It's aggravating watching many other teams take every opportunity to engage fans and get them excited about the future, while ours does the bare minimum. We have more financial resources than almost any other team in the league. Good coverage of prospect development camps/tournaments should be a given.

It seems to me to be this plus the “O6 classy” mindset. We look down on teams like the Canes and their “classless” social media team.

This organization wants to put out an anodyne, corporate product so as to not part with “tradition” or something.
