Rangers Development Camp '23

It seems to me to be this plus the “O6 classy” mindset. We look down on teams like the Canes and their “classless” social media team.

This organization wants to put out an anodyne, corporate product so as to not part with “tradition” or something.

Yes, people often mistake boring for "classy".

When the Hurricanes won the 2018 draft lottery and drafted 2nd overall, they produced a 5-episode mini-series following the organisation. It was called "Inside the storm".

Episode 1: Draft lottery
Episode 2: Scouting combine
Episode 3: Draft
Episode 4: Svechnikov arriving in Raleigh for the first time
Episode 5: Prospect development camp

Each episode was 15 minutes long.

A year later, the Rangers win the draft lottery and draft top-3 for the first time in 53 years! What did we get?

A 10-second video of Kakko saying "Wow, it's a nice city".

And yeah, @Beer League Sniper is right. The Rangers don't put effort in because they can afford not to. They'd rather pay an agency to lure celebrities to the Garden and rely on tourism and corporations to sell tickets. And it's working. And the majority of this fanbase eats it up.

FWIW I like watching all the promotional shit but pretty much I watch it once and it's over and within a couple days or whatever I've moved on from it and it ends up in the territory of forgetting about it and it's not something that I'll likely look back at anyway.

I also don't really give a crap what the Carolina Hurricanes are doing and It's got nothing to do with looking down on them. They're simply not my team and they don't tweak my interest. Honestly if the Rangers disappeared but the rest of the league went on I don't think I'd pick a new team. I think I'd probably drop everything.

It’s not about caring about what they do. It’s about being jealous of the fan service they receive. The Rangers treat us like shit because they know we’re not going anywhere and if we do there’s a thousand people waiting to take our spot.

You're missing the point here. I don't care about what the Hurricanes are doing. I am annoyed that the Rangers cannot do anything remotely close to this. There's simply no content.

They put in minimal effort.

- No warm-up pucks
- No draft coverage
- No prospect camp coverage
- No access to fans at their practice facility
- Actively chasing fans away from the Garden entrances when they are waiting for a picture with their favourite player

This organisation does not care about fans. And they camouflage it as "Being classy". There's nothing classy about it.

They don't care about their fans, and they don't care about hockey either which is strange considering they're a hockey organization. They only care about making a splash and filling seats and could care less about anything else.

Not only that, many fans, even on this board, will tell you you are being entitled. That the Organization doesn't owe you anything. Etc. It is a very weird mentality that has become prominent over the last few years in many areas regarding business, access, fandom, etc. We are fans. We are the paying customer and it isn't entitled or whiny to consider the Rangers' "fan-service" as absolutely sub-par. Especially when the financial might of the team is considered.

People are happy to have shit rubbed in their eyes so as not to seem too "needy". Haha

Bootlicker mentality. They think criticising your favourite team makes you a "fake fan" or something. We aren't asking for unreasonable things here. All I want is for them to do what other teams are doing. They don't have to invent new shit, be pioneers or anything. Just do what others are doing and a lot of fans will be a lot happier.

But no. They act like they are royalty. Want to talk about entitlement? The Rangers org is entitled.

Chmelar is, I think, one of the more underrated guys in the system. He's another example of one of those 'big guys' that people were hesitant on from last years draft.
He had a good showing at the WJC. Vaisanen too. If either of these players become regulars, that's a win. If they can both make it, that would be huge (and not just because they are both 6'4").

The 2020 and 2021 drafts are pretty much talked about because of Lafrenière, Schneider, Cuylle, Garand and Othmann but it's the mid-round picks that really did well post-draft.

Chmelař wasn't even ranked by most outlets. Yet he's a guy that really surprised me in a positive way. Then you have Brody Lamb, who needs a few years to mature physically, and Väisänen who exceeded expectations.

Throw in 2019 draft pick Adam Edström and you have a lot of reasons to be excited about these later draft picks.

I know Ranger fans aren't too excited about Roobroeck and I share that sentiment but mostly because I do not like drafting 19-year olds. But he could very well grow into a bottom 6 role. And in the 5th and 6th round you aren't passing on sure-fire stars anyway.

Sykora has the tools to be an effective NHL player. It's all going to hinge on where he finds himself physically as he fills out. If he ends up with a body that can withstand the rigors of the NHL (not a given, and genetics plays a part), and has the hockey IQ to not put himself in positions to get concussed or otherwise injured out of the league, I think he will do very well.
There is a picture somewhere out there, both his mom and dad are in amazing shape and are ripped. He’s a huge gym rat too.

If they hit on 1-2 kids every 4-5 years in rounds 5-7 that's a win.

Yeah, and they used to do that on a frequent basis, which is what camouflaged their terrible drafting in early rounds to a degree.

But from 2012 to 2018 it was dreadful with the exception of Shestyorkin, Buchnevich and Duclair. Those were the dark years draft-wise

His dad looks like he’s 30. Jesus.

I have high hopes for this kid. Work ethic really matters.

They've got quite the group over the last 5 years in these rounds:

Berard
Chmelar
Rempe
Ollas
Barbashev
Edstrom

Good slew in the 4th round over the last few seasons as well. I think it's a little underrated how they've done in the last 2-3 drafts outside of the top picks.

If given the opportunity, I could see Berard sticking around later in the season.

BMB and Sykora's contracts are still slide eligible. I know BMB will go back to Junior. Will the Rangers exercise that with Sykora either back to Europe or to Juniors? That extra slide year could prove useful with the cap of course.

My guess would be Hartford. Not sure if that’s the right decision, but it seems to at least be sykoras goal to play in Hartford.

the most uncertain aspect of NYR off season
Sykora - could return to Slovak league,
- play in Europe in higher caliber league like SHL,
- play Major Junior in WHL (rights held by Medicine Hat, but post WJC, rumors of trade to maybe? Saskatoon)
- play AHL w Pack

not a CBA geek, not sure which of those scenarios would be slides or not

Sykora already played in hfd end of last year.
Pretty sure he’s staying here and has said he plans on playing in hfd this year.

BMB has to go back to canada. He’s not eligible for the pack.

Nothing has been confirmed with Sykora. It’s basically WHL, AHL, or back to Europe. He would be one of the youngest players if he plays in the AHL, i’m not so keen on that. Hoping he ends up in the WHL to continue to work on his offensive skills in the smaller rink. If he’s in the AHL it will stunt his offense.
