Not sure why you play your backup against the division rival in the season opener instead of your stater, but not an NHL coach.

Only caught snippets but seemed to be creating chances without much finish. Blair and Kakko looked pretty good.

Gallant starting Georgiev is also indefensible there like idk what they were thinking. Igor is in his prime, he can a back to back

Especially coming off a full summer off. They play Saturday and Monday and then not agin until Thursday. No reason Igor couldn't play tonight and tomorrow and Georgiev get Saturday's game. It's galaxy brain shit like that.

Georgiev is terrible too so the decision should be even easier. This organization and I'm guessing Allaire's love of Georgiev is baffling to me. He's terrible.

Kreider is a problem in the top 6.

Mika is a bigger problem. You can win with invisible Kreider sometimes. Invisible Mika requires 3+points from Panarin.

how do these idiots trade Buch for nothing and allow kravstov to seek a trade and mess with his confidence, when their first line RW is Kreider who spent the last decade on the left side? I just don't get how there is no back up plan. if this fails miserably what is the next option? moving Blais or Goodrow into the top 6. absolute disaster of asset management. like beyond awful. I hate to overreact to one game, but what the hell is going on here?

Takeaways:
-Gallant playing Hunt/Tinordi backfired royally when the Caps didn’t engage
- too many penalties
-Too many guys still not wanting to shoot unless it’s perfect
-Georgiev is bad
-I expected the D to be bad early with a new system. And they were very bad
-the top 6 had a very Quinn-esque game. No life from any of them. They were soft and that’s going to need to change quickly

It’s just 1 game. Get Lundkvist and Gaut in there tomorrow. LGR

its why his relationships with the previous teams soured so suddenly; hes very steadfast in what he believes and does

Miller needs more time to learn the position. He’s really been showing the inexperience he has on defense.

seems like pass after pass is a cross ice interception which is a huge no-no for a defenseman.

he has very little situational awareness, looks like the project he was expected to be.

we have enough talent on d in the farm where a project player might not be the right fit.

Georgiev did nothing to help the team.

glad we got tough and now will be on the pk half the game.

kakko looked great, but he might be a better fit on the laf zib line they need a guy like him. Panarin and Strome have shown it doesn’t matter who their wing is.

Strongly agree with the bolded. I liked what I saw of Laf and Kakko together last year when they were with Chytil. Would also allow Kreider to slide back down to his natural side on the left wing

First game, I’m not going to put a lot of stock in it.

That said, obviously nothing to be happy about, aside from hockey being back.

I’m not going to have an opinion about this team until we’ve got 5 games in the books. Period. You can literally start 0-10 and finish in a playoff spot. I’m just not going to engage in the over reaction, hyperbole and doom & gloom this early.

Observations:

Miller needs to be better or he needs some time to work on his game in the AHL. Whether he’s been “terrible” or not, he’s been VERY unsteady for a while now.

Tinordi brings nothing. It’s a joke to have him in the lineup. A guy like Reaves playing 10 minutes on the wing is not the same as a guy like Tinordi playing 14 on D. Jones, Lundqvist and Schneider have to realistically be less of a liability.

Laf is inching towards worrisome. Lots of excuses for him last year - weird schedule, no preseason, hadn’t played in a year, etc. Saw flashes, but overall not looking like your average 1OA, let alone a good one.

Disappointed in the lack of urgency from our vets. Bread looked like he was scrimmaging. Mika didn’t even look like he was on the ice. Strome looked like wet noodles despite the assist.

Forgettable opener. Let’s forget it and move on. 81 games still ahead.

It never ends. This franchise always manages to embarass itself. All the talk, all the moves. Nothing. Plus they get blown out.

And the refs still suck. The random crosscheck calls are going to be a pain in the ass.

I'm not a huge Kreider fan, but he got the only goal, so it's not a great night to single him out.

I learned that he is very congenial. I mean, that was very thoughtful of him to ask Ovechkin how his summer went.

Kreider is a problem in the top 6.

We were worried all camp about who's going to switch to RW.

Just put Kreider on the third line. Problem solved.

In Gallant's defense, only the 4th line played less than Kreider at even strength.

Fifty page thread about Kravtsov not being ready for the NHL and earning it versus being entitled, but Miller was actually gifted his roster spot without showing even a glimpse of something resembling an NHL caliber defensemen.

Sad.

And this is where I think Kravtsov actually has a point.
