Not for nothing the Rangers punished caps all over the ice first period and Wilson played the quietest game I’ve seen him play.

that was the idea. If someone acts up we’re ready for it. But if anything our guys were out for blood and caps did nothing about it other than beat up on Georgiev

This is a very good point also. Wilson was on his very best behavior, the worst thing he did was accidently trip Blais. It's 1 game, we lost and of course it's the first game so we're going to over index on the results. Our top 2 lines will need to produce is what it comes down to.

That was the worst television coverage ever, capped by Gretzky droning on about Ovie amid the game's most interesting flurry of scoring. Maybe the next time TNT broadcasts the Rangers they can have a sleepy bureaucrat in the split screen reading the NHL's Covid policy for each city and arena.

When I go to purgatory they're gonna put me in a room with a TV and that four minutes of The Great One mumbling over the Rangers getting trashed by the Caps will play over and over, on a continuous loop, until I've done my time. Only then will Marcel Dionne put on his Capitals hat and they'll let me out.

What a cluster F.

Yeah wtf was that? That was an epic fail

this board was warned a lot that hitting and a big uptick in physical play won't make losses any easier to stomach and, well, here you go.

half the forwards are new and we apparently wanted to lose since we played tinordi and georgiev so there's that. it really is just game 1.

they had a really solid first half of the game and then completely fell apart. that's ok, iron it out and figure out what to do next.

kreider and zibanejad legitimately worry me. kreider hasn't been worth a damn since the end of 2019 and there's nothing indicating it's getting better. zibanejad......looks kinda like kreider does. I can't put my finger on it but he's consistently in the wrong place at the wrong time. they need to be broken up, like, yesterday.

I really don't want to pile on miller but the dude looks like he's never played hockey before on his worst days. it's really ugly, and I don't know how you fix that. he's making mistakes that AHLers don't make.

tinordi should never, ever, EVER see NHL ice again. absolutely f***ing worthless

be better today

Zib complaints after Game 1 seem an overreaction. Barring injury, he's likely putting up 80 points.

Line brawls, going after Wilson, etc would’ve made it easier to swallow. But we didn’t get either

So, one question is why did Gallant play a goon lineup in a game that ended up having zero fights?

The other question is why did Wilson go virtually untouched?

He made the Rangers fire the GM and coach and totally alter their lineup to inject toughness.

He is the Lord of the Rangers.

I do think this team goes nowhere without better goaltending.

Let's not forget he also let in a shot from near the blue line that was waived off due to offsides. Back when the team had 3 goalies, he played his best hockey to stay in the lineup. But now, he's simply not as good anymore.

Scoring one meaningless goal near the end isn't a great way to win, either.

Because they didn’t do this stuff to address Wilson. People said that, then got mad about it, and now are mad that it didn’t seem to be the case. The team needed to get heavier and harder aside from one incident with Wilson.

Of course the moves weren't made to address "one incident" with Wilson. They were made, or should've been made to correct the fact that the NYR were once again becoming and overly soft franchise that could be taken advantage of, by other teams aggressive players like Wilson, Martin, etc.

To bring in these tough guys and not have them confront/challenge Wilson is farce. This franchise is just a Madison avenue corporate farce.

Wilson didn’t do anything to confront him about. They came out hitting like crazy until the penalties started raining down. At that point, taking even more to go after Wilson for something that happened months ago in a game where he didn’t pull anything is silly

What happened to Georgiev? He was never great, but now has regressed to having no trade value. Unable to mentally handle Shesterkin's presence on the team? Makes you wonder about who was the bigger jerk, him or Tony D.

they got rid of the wrong player.

Reaves/NYR needed to send a message in the first. The "talent" on this team didn't do their part and for some reason, the "spark" players that were brought in, didn't bring much either.

It's one game. fine, move on, but it surely was not the game i expected. i can't be alone.

I feel there was some good in the mix, and quite a bit of bad.

Focusing on the good, I do think they looked like a team more willing to engage and showed signs of having more pace to their game.

I think there's a good size/speed combination that has potential to keep teams a little off-balance.

Fox is still amazing.

Zibanejad isn't lagging.

Kakko backing guys up and entering the zone was a nice sight.

Blais is a heat-seaking missile.

I think they are still a team that is trying to understand Gallant's approach and their own wheelhouse.

I think Georgiev is just not a good goalie. I don't have faith when I see him in net.

I think Nemeth is okay in a limited role, but if you're putting Tinordi in the lineup it's a huge black hole.

I think Tinordi is pretty useless as player at this point.

I think they have a bunch of guys on the bottom six who are likable, but limited.

I think we need a different element in the top six.

We have a skill and we have physicality. But we don't have the two elements blended together. They tend to exist separately with a clear divide between the top six and and bottom six.
