I dont agree with those that say he stunk, but also don;t think he was anything special.
The big thing that you don't get with Georgy that you do get with Shesty and it makes a world of difference is possession. Shesty plays such a calm game that he tends to limit the amount of rebound goals and scrambly plays in front of him. On top of that, he's not too shabby with the puck. The game turned on power plays but we were doing pretty well until we strung a bunch of shifts together where multiple poor decisions were made and pucks were getting turned over and not getting out of the zone. A few times that was due to Georgy handling the puck and giving it away. And other times, it was our D and Fs.
But between the poor puck management and Georgys lack of rebound control -- he overworks a young D that really struggles at times regardless. The team has a hard time playing in front of him. and its been that way for a few seasons now. And to be fair, Hank looked very similar towards the end of his career. Too many rebounds, not enough control/possession.
You could say we played a lazy game that at times lacked passion and that would be correct. But it starts with multiple dumb plays that rip the heart out of the team. Hope Lundkvist and Shesty can provide more possession next game.
Absolutely totally agree with everything you said - just last night I don't think anyone in our system yields a result much different than what we had. I think last night and how scrambly and sloppy everything was - Shesty would have made a few mistakes too and people would be in here calling him down as well.
Make no mistake, Igor is our guy and simply love how good he is at playing the puck
Cheers man
