I dont agree with those that say he stunk, but also don;t think he was anything special.

The big thing that you don't get with Georgy that you do get with Shesty and it makes a world of difference is possession. Shesty plays such a calm game that he tends to limit the amount of rebound goals and scrambly plays in front of him. On top of that, he's not too shabby with the puck. The game turned on power plays but we were doing pretty well until we strung a bunch of shifts together where multiple poor decisions were made and pucks were getting turned over and not getting out of the zone. A few times that was due to Georgy handling the puck and giving it away. And other times, it was our D and Fs.

But between the poor puck management and Georgys lack of rebound control -- he overworks a young D that really struggles at times regardless. The team has a hard time playing in front of him. and its been that way for a few seasons now. And to be fair, Hank looked very similar towards the end of his career. Too many rebounds, not enough control/possession.

You could say we played a lazy game that at times lacked passion and that would be correct. But it starts with multiple dumb plays that rip the heart out of the team. Hope Lundkvist and Shesty can provide more possession next game.

Absolutely totally agree with everything you said - just last night I don't think anyone in our system yields a result much different than what we had. I think last night and how scrambly and sloppy everything was - Shesty would have made a few mistakes too and people would be in here calling him down as well.

Make no mistake, Igor is our guy and simply love how good he is at playing the puck :)

Cheers man

Laf-zib-kakko
Panarin-Strome-Blais
Kreider-Chytil-gauthier
Goodrow-Rooney-Reaves

Blais fits like a glove on that line. He’s a Banger, puck retriever, and offense doesn’t die on his stick. That’s all that line needs in a right winger, and it allows us to spread talent more evenly throughout the lineup. He also was one of our best players last night and all preseason. He should be rewarded.

Kreider-chytil-Gauthier could be matchup hell for other teams. All 3 players are big, fast, and competent offensively.

The game was over the minute Georgiev was announced as the starter.

I also would like to make a slight change

lafreniere zibanejad kakko
Panarin Strome Kreider
Goodrow Chytil Gauthier
Blais Rooney Reaves

I'd like to make a change

Lafreniere Zibanejad Kakko
Panarin Strome Kravtsov
Kreider Chytil Goodrow
Blais Rooney Hunt/Gauthier

As bad as your Rangers looked last night, they still played much better than the Lightning did on Tuesday night. So, there's hope.

Tinordi should never see the ice again.
Laf just doesn't show me anything. He doesn't have elite speed, hands, vision. Trying to figure out the type of player he will be and i can't.
Zibby got his contract too early.
Panarin may be a bit out of game shape, but he still made a ton of plays. Puck just wasn't going in.

If we bury some of the chances we had in the first period, its a different game. Once Georgie started to show his ass, it was like flies on rotting meat.

It may not be happening yet, but Laf has elite hands and vision.

But then people post about Miller being rushed to the NHL and we are currently rly watching Laf struggle to even be noticeable in most games. We can all cherry pick examples and then use hyperbole too.

Kravtsov didn't make the NHL and fled to Russia.

Fast forward.

Management is unhappy with Kravtsov's conditioning and sends him to the AHL.

Kravtsov demands to be traded.

I don't know how good he might become, but right now he's a punk.

This team needs some punk to it, right now we’re a boy band

As someone said in a thread like a week or 2 ago , the first 10-15 games could look kind of ugly I have faith in Gallant .......I like the fact they have a game tonight , good opportunity to get the bad taste out of your mouth quickly .LGR !!!!!!!

I know Gallant covered for Georgiev after the game and he made a few saves to keep them in it, but the game started to shift when he refused to cover the puck with Hagelin coming in on him, forcing Nemeth to take a penalty, then giving up the first goal on the PP. He has the worst situational awareness of any goalie I've ever seen, whenever the Rangers need a big save, he comes up small. It killed all the momentum they had in the 1st 10 minutes

He better get it together quickly because they have his replacement ready to step in and he's running out of rope.

I know you love him, but no teams need a spoiled punk who's not in playing condition and demanding to be traded.

Behave like a punk once, maybe you get a second chance.

Do it again and the blame for your situation goes squarely on your shoulders.

Either he stops being a crybaby or he gets treated like shit and traded.

It's his choice.

Jones looked far better than Kravtsov and was passed over for Tinordi. He didn't cry. He went to work.

Rangers started 2-7 in AV's 1st season and had losses far more embarrassing than this one (Hertl literally ended Biron's career with that 4 goal game lol). That season ended up pretty successful id say.

Its one game, new coach, new system, etc. Im not getting to upset about what happens in the early season as long as we see improvement.

Georgiev has insanely regressed ever since coming up. Not sure what it is that happened, but he was a lot better when he first came up from the AHL. Guess teams went to school on him and he never made the adjustments to get better at those things.

Time to go back to the drawing board on the backup spot. He's not it. Shesty is the guy, can't believe there was ever a debate. If he keeps shitting the bed, Wall or Kinkaid better be ready to go, those are clearly the AHL goalies at the moment.

Not going to say he singlehandedly lost the game, but it was pretty damn close. Was the worst goalie that played across every team last night, and if it wasn't for an offside, it'd have been even worse.

They also need to stay out of the box. Cannot take this many penalties, especially against the best powerplay team in the league for the last decade.

Get Nils into the lineup tonight and get Gauthier out there on the 3rd line. We don't need Hunt out there and we definitely don't need Tinordi out there either.

We need to get Gauthier some ice time, so we can stop hearing how Gauthier should get more ice time.

this board was warned a lot that hitting and a big uptick in physical play won't make losses any easier to stomach and, well, here you go.

half the forwards are new and we apparently wanted to lose since we played tinordi and georgiev so there's that. it really is just game 1.

they had a really solid first half of the game and then completely fell apart. that's ok, iron it out and figure out what to do next.

kreider and zibanejad legitimately worry me. kreider hasn't been worth a damn since the end of 2019 and there's nothing indicating it's getting better. zibanejad......looks kinda like kreider does. I can't put my finger on it but he's consistently in the wrong place at the wrong time. they need to be broken up, like, yesterday.

I really don't want to pile on miller but the dude looks like he's never played hockey before on his worst days. it's really ugly, and I don't know how you fix that. he's making mistakes that AHLers don't make.

tinordi should never, ever, EVER see NHL ice again. absolutely f***ing worthless

be better today

Line brawls, going after Wilson, etc would’ve made it easier to swallow. But we didn’t get either

I do think this team goes nowhere without better goaltending.

Let's not forget he also let in a shot from near the blue line that was waived off due to offsides. Back when the team had 3 goalies, he played his best hockey to stay in the lineup. But now, he's simply not as good anymore.

Agreed, he has not been trustworthy since pre-Covid. The leash needs to be getting tighter and Kinkaid should be up soon with another few shitty Geo games.

How do some of you people deal with adversity in your normal lives if this is how you react after the first game of the season? You think adding all of these pieces and a new coach would click instantly? These things take time. Be patient with the team and move on to the next. It’s a 82 game season for f***s sake.
I didn’t think I’d be surprised at all the melodramatic crying going on here but here I am…

It's a good point, we brought some of these guys in for a reason and played Tinordi for a reason. We should have sent a message, it didn't have to be a line brawl but just hey Tom Wilson here is a guy we brought in to punch you in the face and we'll do it at every opportunity.

When it comes to Georgiyev, did we lose because of him? I don't really think so, only 1 goal for isn't getting it done. That said, a good goalie is going to save one or two or maybe even three of those goals against. A good goalie is also calm in his net, which allows the D-men to play with less pressure, which obviously affects the whole line-up. We saw this last season as well, there's a big difference in how the D-corps played when Shesty was in net. Ideally it shouldn't be like this, you should have a proper system like the Islanders where you don't rely on individual efforts all over the ice. But it is what it is.

I'm not at the point of "shoot him to the moon and bring up Kinkaid" which I think is what 90% of this board wants (probably more like 98% in fact lol). But a better back up solution is going to be needed, if this team wants to contend in its window. Not sure if that's achievable during this season, should be addressed in the off season at the latest though.

It's a shame, because I really like him as a person and liked him as a player, but it can't be denied that he hasn't developed further in a few years, may have even taken steps back.

Although we didn't play very good in front of Georgiev, he sure didn't do us any favors as well. No timely saves that he can hang his glove on that's for sure. It just seemed like we were afraid to play in front of the net, a lot perimeter play and hits after the puck was gone.

he would've just not engaged. like his whole team did last night.
