I messed up my rib a couple months back. Never got it checked but I assume it was muscle based based on the pain and how it got better,

The pain was insane. I couldn't breathe well. Coughing and sneezing caused such extreme pain for a good 5 minutes. I couldn't sleep for the first couple nights. Mobility sucks.

Actually cracking a rib.

Not excusing him, but that sucks.

Alternatively, Lindgren with a cracked rib, Trouba with a broken Ankle and Lavi still wouldn't play Jones...
This board dismisses injuries as a non-factor but probably 80% of these board tough guys take mental health days and go to ER with paper cuts.

How do we continue to ice a good team after having to pay Igor and Laf?

Trading Igor this off-season would be the balls move to do.

You certainly can't give him a 12 million per yr contract on a long term.
It would be ballsy and pretty stupid for a team that is very good. Nobody knows what the cost will be and they could still trade him next year at the deadline if things don't go as planned.

So true. If any of the tough guys had a cracked rib they would be crying for their mommies. It's extremely painful and that's with not even moving let alone getting checked into the boards by Bennett.

I think the biggest key to success for this team is whether or not the organization acknowledges/understands/admits the shortcomings of this team that most of the more knowledgeable fans realize, things like Trouba and Lindgren’s being a net negative and Mika’s quick trend downward. It’s one thing if they aren’t willing to play games with the cap by buying out Trouba, it’s another to pretend he’s a great player. I think if they resign Lindgren that they just don’t get it. I hope they get rid of Trouba, but I understand why they wouldn’t want to buy him out or give up a ton of assets. But there’s no reason for them to bring back Lindgren at this point.

Drury might as well fire himself now if he’s trading Igor

There is not 1 person on this board who thinks that Mika, Trouba, or Lindgren had a good year, let alone "great". The realities are that Mika is basically untradeable because of his cap hit and NMC. Trouba is tradeable but how much would have to be retained/added. The injury did seemingly have an affect on him. He is the captain and he may be serviceable as a 3rd pairing guy who may be more easily traded next year. Lindgren is probably the most likely to not be here next year IMO.

Actually, we have another problem, which again rears it's ugly head: players playing hurt who are a detriment to the team.

Now, we question the medical staff, coaching staff, GM, why the f*** they were allowing players to play? Do they collectively have a problem with their brains processing what their optics saw?

Even more questions as to why Jones wasn't called up, why Fox wasn't assigned solely to the PP or PK. Hell, I would have played some players every other game, which makes dressing Rempe only to keep benching him in the 3rd that much more nonsensical!

He is saying they could have done the little things better. In a series where every game WAS essentially a 1 goal game scoring or preventing 1 or 2 goals could have made a big difference.
My point is that, that is delusional thinking. When you watched the play the panthers were absolutely dominant and the rangers were lucky those games were so close. If we played them 100 times, we wouldn’t win 50 of them. More like 20-30 if we get some luck. More than minor changes need to happen to get to that level of play.

Those are valid questions.

Yes I agree but these players aren't going to come out and trash the team and other players. Take what they say to the media with a grain of salt. Kreider is one guy who isn't delusional. They know they have to be better and so does the FO. Lets see what they do this summer.

You could offset his cap as a 3rd pair guy by trading for a young stud LD with a low cap hit. Someone still on an elc or 2nd contract rfa. But that's gonna hurt some fans of specific prospects and players.

It'll cost, but we have assets. It's a make or break move for a GM too.

It’s a hockey culture thing.

Bergeron got lauded for playing with a punctured lung a few years ago. It was absurd that they allowed him to suit up and get on the ice in that shape.
I'll add that whatever the players are revealing publicly now, 10 out 10 times when they we're asked by the staff whether they could go, their answer was "yes." It's tough to reject someone who is eager to get on the ice, and if they were even 85% able and were technically medically cleared, they were allowed to play.

I really think Drury GM'd like a giant p***y this year. He absolutely should've done that just as he should have traded for Guentzel.
I’m not disagreeing with you factually but I fully get where Drury was coming off being cautious (or giant p***y as you call it). If the Rangers run over Devils in the first round last year and then battled hard against Canes in round 2 I see a different approach from him. Actually what he’s going to do this year is what you’d expect from him last offseason in this scenario.

I just know that I was pissed at the deadline. I largely kept my anger to myself since it seemed like no one wanted to spend anything, here. I feel pretty vindicated now, but still.

I am very curious how he approaches this offseason. He really needs to get some boat anchors off the team.

This is what I was referring to in regards to insulting our intelligence. They said he broke his foot in March, nobody is healing from that that fast.
On top of it local geniuses think that medically cleared to play is the same as being in shape to give top shelf performance right away. Ridiculous

What do they say about hindsight?

Like I said in another thread, I cracked my radial head/neck (near the elbow) and almost 4 weeks out it's still not normal and I can't do everything with it. Certain movements aren't good, it's not totally just pain.
You can "play through injuries" by changing how you're using your body to try to avoid the things that hurt but that is going to impact your overall effectiveness and ability to perform. Pro athletes get access to all kinds of stuff to help them play though it but there are still things your body is just not going to be able to do while injured.

e: I think simple broken/cracked bones "heal" in 4-6 weeks but that doesn't mean you're pain free or that your body isn't still trying to repair the damage. Trouba injured in March means he probably was "OK" to play here in May but I doubt he was 100% either.

Whether or not he was though is beside the point, he hasn't been good enough even healthy for the role this team asks him to play, so someone needs to fix that one way or another

Side note, it's kinda crazy that the SCF could last until June 24, just four days ahead of the draft and then free agency.

Same here. I’ve done sports all my live it taught me to understand the difference between being able to do something and competing at the top of the form against top competition.
