Trouba and Goodrow are guaranteed gone, when you consider the Laf and Igor contracts coming up. There's just no two ways about it, because they are our largest, realistically moveable contracts. Kreider isn't being traded and is on a great value contract, Zibanejad has a NMC, Panarin has a NMC, Fox isn't going anywhere. So that leaves Trouba and Goodrow as our largest contracts with limited trade clause. I don't care what anyone says, both men have enough perceived value across the league that I'm sure we can find a reasonable deal within their 15 team trade lists.

Their money combined pays for Igor and Laf's next contracts. Igor's won't kick in until after next season, so that means we have one season to spend on a rental top line winger.

Kakko is replaceable with Othmann on the third line, but I think we need to re-up Kakko at a reasonable, moveable contract with short term. Let him start the season on the first line, give him 2-3 months to play up his value. If he can't, move him and acquire a pending UFA rental like Buchnevich.

So you roll with:

Kreids - Zib - Kakko (until he works out or gets traded in a deal for a true top line wing rental)
Panarin - Troch - Laf
Cuylle - Chytil - Othmann
Vesey - Brod - Rempe

Lindgren - Fox
Miller - Schneider
Jones - (value signing RD with speed and physicality)

Igor
Quick

And then next season when the big Igor deal kicks in, you let your UFA rental walk and bring up Perrault as the new top line wing)

Very little downside to this roster, but massive upside. And it's affordable under the cap.

Posters here think the Rangers have problems and it's not that they don't but it's still a team that won the regular season and was in the final four of the playoffs. It's a disappointing end but anyone thinking we should blow up this team right now is kind of out to lunch and it's very unlikely to happen.

That doesn't mean some changes aren't going to be in the offing but I seriously doubt Trouba is going to get moved and if I'm adding to our defense by subtracting Gustafsson and maybe Lindgren I'd be looking for a bigger body who can play because one thing this series with the Panthers made clear to me is the Rangers had a hard time hanging physically with them---parituclarly our defense who were getting hammered all the time.

We need to add speed and puck-moving back there. Size just makes you a bigger target.

Maybe it's me but I see 95% of these players being back next season. There may be a couple of additions or subtractions but ultimately the same group. And they'll have a good regular season and then crap their pants in the playoffs again. Because this core (and I don't just mean a few guys) cannot get it done. There's just no way.

So I think Drury wait until next year's trade deadline and does then what he didn't do this year. Obviously, this is just a total guess. But it's my best guess.

The way some of the guys were talking it was like half of their buddies were leaving.

Maybe they know something we dont, but I dont see a lot of wholesale changes either. Tweaking a spot here and there is about all they can do unless a major trade goes down.

But I agree about next trade deadline. They will probably be more aggressive

A lot of posters always get emotional after a season ending loss because another team was better. Florida will destroy Edmonton and that may change some views about this teams failures this series. I think Drury is a smart guy and is a bit of a Dbag which is a good thing. This team will be different but will once again be one of the top teams in the east. Will it be good enough to get over the hump remains to be seen.

That's an awful bottom 6. And any team with Kakko and Lindgren in a top 6/top 4 role is not serious about winning.

Lindgren and Trouba, always hurt always something wrong with them. It's almost like they are defending too much and taking a beating.

Fox's injury is more of a fluke where a knee on knee took him out. Similar with Vesey, but he's another with a lot of wear and tear from defending.

People mentioned this is like when McDonagh, Staal, and Girardi got hurt in 2015. Staal and Girardi always got hurt. You know who didn't really get hurt in Tampa? McDonagh. He wasn't stuck defending with Girardi for 2/3 of the game.

Injuries like this happen when you are overexposed and not making regular plays and have to go beyond too much. Broken ankle, too many blocked shots. Cracked ribs, too many times getting hit.

Did Florida look injured? How about Carolina? They always have the puck, so it's harder to get hurt that way. The end result is we need the puck more and these guys are incapable of ending with that result. Time to move on.

You are reading too much into what they say to the media. It doesn't matter. What matters is what the organization and FO think and do moving forward.
Disagree on this point, especially if the player is a leader on the team. Also, if what you're saying is true, what's the point of break up day or us paying any attention to it at all? Or posting about it on this forum?

Little guys get hit too. Not everyone between 5'11 and 6'5 is a clumsy oaf. Smaller D can just as easily get trapped in their own zone on a long shift as any other D and tend to be more easily worn down when that happens. Speaking of a smaller defenseman though Fox is not speedy but he's elusive and moves the puck really well but that said he took a lot of abuse in the playoffs too. Jones might have helped a little but this idea that he would have been a real difference maker I think is far fetched. He's moving towards his mid 20's and he's still got a lot to prove.

If you want to roll this org over into a new era, you ship out certain players (trouba, kakko, panarin?), name trocheck captain, toss an A on laffy, toss an A on lindgren (yes, until there's a legit upgrade lindy is part of the heart here), and play through with adversity to win and make the playoffs. Will it be as "successful?" possibly not, but it would alter what is festering here and establish a succession for leadership from trocheck to laffy when that time comes...

I’m fine trading him , but not if we are just throwing in Kakko to do so. He still has value despite the board thinking he’s the worst player ever.

I'd trade him and our 1st (30th) to any of the 16 teams that are left on his list. Plus, airfare, if that's what it takes.

That being said, if Trouba is playing limited minutes on the 3rd pair and our top 4 looks something like Chychrun/Fox Miller/Schneider with Lindgren/Jones/Whoever + Trouba, I think that's okay too.
