You know, we'd rather contend sooner than later. Buff and Wheeler aren't exactly getting younger, and we can still do some damage during their primes.

Trouba is not expendable, and won't be traded for another rookie forward. End of story. I don't care how valuable they are. I care about what we need.

Exactly. Plus, the very last thing the Jets need to do is to gift Edmonton a d-man in exchange for a forward that the Jets don't need. (unless that d-man is Mark Stuart)

I dont think he will be for a very long time. Its just a matter of the next great oilers collapse.

:dunno:

The make-up of our team is significantly different than it has been in a long time. We're not built around young, soft players with zero support. But, it's "show me" time now. Enough is enough, our fans need something here.

I'll stay humble, we have a difficult road ahead. No idea where we'll finish in the standings this year but I think we have a team that is better suited for the Pacific than we've had in previous years.

Dear Entire HF Community:

This is Public Service Announcement

Although the entire Jets fan base has enjoyed and laughed at the 2000+ trade proposals for Trouba during the off-season we are in fact growing tired. Unfortunately like all good things these proposal threads need to come to an end. As such we would like to officially, state the following non-requirements of the organization should in the future any HF's decide to send out a mindless trade proposal for Trouba;

WE DO NOT NEED or WANT any of the following;

1. prospects
2. forwards unless they are Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin etc etc. you get the drift
3. Spare parts in any quantity (Quality over quantity)
4. Any trades involving Toronto (or proposals henceforth)

Feel free to flame away and argue that Trouba won't sign is over valued etc etc (I've read it all and then some over and over). Unless you have a credible source and link any talk that he won't sign here is ENTIRELY based on speculation considering no comments have come from either negotiating side. The Answer to any proposal not involving a D man of value is fruitless and quite frankly the joke is over now.

Signed

Then leave the ****ing board. Every proposal on here is fruitless so I'm not sure why you feel so entitled to be immune from them

Sure, good luck getting an Ovechkin, Crosby etc for Trouba

That's not what he's saying. The point he's making is that we are loaded with forward depth/skill so we really have no reason to trade for another forward. The whole "unless it's Crosby/Ovi/Stamkos" thing doesn't mean we actually think Trouba holds near that value.

Although after the Hall trade, D-men may hold more value than I thought.

The Oilers give up the better asset long term, but adding a solid #4 guy would be tempting for a team desperate to prove they aren't a joke anymore.

Jets easily say yes, especially since they don't seem to have much interest in paying Trouba

If the Oilers wanted him i think they'd just offer sheet him something outside the Jets want to pay.

Can't afford the $$ and term he's looking for. Drai and McDavid need to be taken care of.

4 team 3 Way:
(Rangers) McD + for Trouba + (Jets)

(Rangers) Trouba for Reinhart (Sabres)

(Sabres) Ristolainen for Draisatil + (Oilers)

------------------
NYR then flips
Stepan + three 3rds to Canes for Pesce, Murphy, and three 2nds

----------
additional deals to move Staal's NMC

consolidate vets into youth, picks

--------
Jets get needed LD, older, but sweetheart deal 3 years w/chance to extend

Sabes get replacement 1RD, supposedly he is tight with Eichel?

Risto = Draisatil, great for C, but could also power W

Canes get a top 20 C.

Ummm what?

This makes zero sense for the Rangers.

Trouba's contract demand has been leaked for a while and still no signing. Seems as if the two sides are pretty far apart

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/...jacob-trouba-free-agents-asking-term-million/

Especially since Jets management seemed to prefer to invest big dollars in a vet like Buff, they may not want to lock so much cap into another player when they'll need more cap space sooner rather than later for their other RFAs.

When there's smoke there's usually fire after all

I love when "sources" that have been disproved keep getting used again and again and again.

It's all speculation at this point but we're a month away from training camp and he's still not signed, it's not nuclear at this point but still a concern. Does he want out for whatever reason? Does he want way more then he's worth? There's obviously some sort of hang up and when you consider who his agent is my guess is either he wants out completely or they are far apart on a contract but again who knows he could be signed tomorrow. I think the name of the game for some players now is take a haircut on AAV in RFA deal to get to UFA as soon as possible, pull that huge contract in your prime and choose where you wanna play.

Even though there is still a concern and I would hate to see Chia give up a hefty package for a player who has to be protected in expansion and still needs a contract. Trouba is a hell of a player but I don't think it's worth the trade assets just to inherit that headache. Especially cause then it gives Overhardt a little more leverage knowing that GM just gave up a ton in trade and isn't gonna let his guy sit out into the season.

And to top it all off it would really put the Oilers in a pinch with the expansion draft whereas right now they are pretty comfortable with protecting 7-3 and not losing anything valuable at all.

What about Trouba + Connor for Keflbom + Puljujarvi? I'm a Jets fan and still not sure if I'd do it, but the value might be close.

Value seems near I think?

However, we have Klefbom signed through the 2022-23 season at a cap hit of $4.167M. Every dollar counts with Drai and McDavid about to get paid.

Oilers already traded a top winger for a good young RHD.

Jets have a better young RHD in Trouba, and a slew of top-end wingers. Why would they want to trade Trouba for another winger?

I though Jets fans would be drooling to get Puljujarvi in the same uniform as Laine!

Without question he's a very good prospect, love to have him but we can't give up a need (Trouba) for nothing but a luxury (Pulju/forward) that isn't a need (already stacked at forward).

That's trade that makes some sense at least, not saying either team does it but at least it makes some sense.

Let's play..... If trouba is willing to sign a market value long term deal no chance the jets make this trade we need D.
If trouba is not happy and is playing hard ball to get out of Winnipeg there is zero chance he would sign in Edmonton also.
Trade won't work either way.

I do think it is a fair offer by the OP.
