What's the word on Mayfield? Does he still project to be a solid NHLer? Since we traded Pokka I'm hoping he can be another organizational answer for a second or third pairing RHD.

I like the progression I see from Mayfield. He looked much more comfortable in the second half of last season (his rookie pro year). Also in per season game action he looked to be the best of the second tier defencemen. His length and skating is a real asset, also like his breakout passes, he can really get the puck out of the zone, which is something a lot of islander prospects have seemed to struggle with.

As others have eluded to, the depth on the blue line is pretty solid now with a core that potentially looks like this beyond next season (de haan, hamonic, leddy, boychuk, Reinhart, pulock, hickey). That's if the isles extend boychuk.

That leaves Pelech, Mayfield, Donovan, Czuczman. Donovan and czuczman need to get it done quick as they are older and will need to pass through waivers soon (czuczman) if not already (Donovan). Its a shame Donovan hasn't been able to adjust to the NHL game as quickly as he needed to (it could cost him).

Pelech has three years to develop in Bridgeport and Mayfield has two more. I hope they are able to keep those two and develop them as long as possible before moving them. I view czuczman and Donovan as 'on the hot seat' at this point (and strait). Those would be the three depth defence man is move before considering Mayfield or pelech in a deal.

Great update and spot on as far as I can tell. I'd hate to lose Donovan for nothing, but that might be coming if they need to waive him when de Haan and Vis come back. Czuczman is an interesting case as I see him as being close. I just am not sure if he's got a spot unless he can beat out Hickey. I would be nervous if I were Strait. When de Haan and Vis come back, and assuming Pulock acclimates himself well, there may be no room at the inn for him. I really was impressed by Pulock after training camp. He had come a lot further than I thought by this time. From what little I saw and mostly read, he outperformed Reinhart for the last slot, so it will be interesting to watch if he is able to keep the positive performances coming. We're in a very good position.

Looks like after a great start, Sorokin may be relegated to backup duty. His team has won the last 2 games with a different starting goalie, winning 2-0 and 5-4 in a shootout. If I'm the coach, no offense to Sorokin who's gonna be a good one, but if I'm winning with someone else, that's who gets the starts.

Not a black mark on the kid, the other goalie is 24 and Sorokin is 19. Also they are on a bad team. Sorokin has shown me enough so far to make me think it was a great draft choice and he's gonna be a good one, I think he will be Russia's starting goalie at the WJHC. Hopefully he has a great tournament.

Still though I want Sorokin to play more because the more games he plays the more he develops

Agreed, but he's got several more years left on his contract, so he'll get in plenty of games. Plus, he's probably still the best goalie on the team (stats wise).

I can't wait to check out the Sound Tigers either Friday or Sunday. Nice to finally see some quality talent and prospects filling out the roster.

Only 2 games, but Czuczman's 2 points and plus 2 in BP is a nice start.

Czuczman

Something about Czuczman, this guy caught my attention last year he appeared to have butterfly's in the beginning but you saw his progression with each game. And for a big man he moves well has good speed physicality and some offence to his game. He could very well be part of our future or part of a package to bring in a missing piece.
