I doubt he's looking at the Leafs and thinking, what this team really needs is Calgary's #6D at $3.75 mil.
He seems to like d men who are bigger witch some exceptions for smaller ones so I think he'll check in and see the price range.

Noting, if you resign Schenn, our 7 D would be taller, and heavier than Calgary's d core, subtracting Zadorov. Even without Schenn... we are bigger.

It will be interesting to see if he trades for anyone with the Flames.
Both teams need changes and core pieces might be move between the two teams

-> This flames nation link is actually an article on.. Assessing the Calgary Flames’ trades under Brad Treliving

If there’s a second thing Treliving liked to trade picks for, it was physical, stay-at-home blueliners.

If we extend Schenn, and have McCabe on the roster, is there really a need for another stay-at-home blueliner? Stay tuned....

McCabe and stay at home don't belong in the same sentence. He's too pinch eager for that. I honestly couldn't stand his pinches in the playoffs!

We're overdue for a sequel to the Gilmour trade! ;)
Well it was a 5 for 5 trade.

Dougie was their 2C behind Joe = Lindholm is sort of their 2C
Leeman was a 50 goals scorer = JT was a 47 goals scorer

Macoun was a top 4 stay at home Dman = Tanev fits the mode
Alexander Godynyuk was a prospect of sort = Timmons

Can't do the rest, but I will take Lindholm and Tanev for JT and Timmons.

McCabe is a good two way Dman and I think he pinches more than he should is mainly due to TJ playing on the other side and Keefe's system needs the Dman to pinch

Nice attempt! Definitely not an easy transaction to put together after the number of years that have gone by since then. The Phaneuf trade had the quantity but lacked a bit in quality IMO. Realistically, the Gilmour trade was my go-to because it ended up being so one-sided in our favour. :)

There are a lot of things that have to be decided in Toronto but of course, the big one is where do you get the money for players.

A lot has been made about the core 4 and yes I think that has to be disbanded as it is gong to be too restrictive and too costly.

The big question that is not mentioned much is what you do with Murray. Samsanov has shown that he has the ability to be a number 1 but is going to want number 1 money.

You need to get Murray off the books. This was possibly the stupidest trade that Dubas made.

Who do you think bites and at what cost to Toronto

I see a lot of people talking about getting bigger on the backend but during the playoffs I thought we lacked puck moving, mobility and offense generally from our defense

Besides Rielly and to a lesser extent Liljegren we really lack puck movers, mobility and offense

Brodie and McCabe are good players but they need mobile puck moving partners to be effective

I think we've gone to far towards all defense and need another puck mover even if he's just a 3rd pair type

We should 100% trade Murray this offseason, absolute no brainer. I think it’ll be fairly cheap too.

The Sens only had to pay us a 3rd round pick to dump 2 years of Murray at $4.7 mil AAV. His play and injuries with the Leafs were the same this year as they’ve been the last few years, have to think we could dump 1 year of Murray at the same cap hit ($4.7 mil) for a similarly low price?

Also, we recently dumped 2 years of Mrazek at $3.8 mil AAV, and the cost was low too - trading down from 25 to 38 in the draft. Mrazek is way worse than Murray, and 2 years vs. 1.

So yeah, I’ll bet we can dump him by trading down (Boston 1st for an early 2nd), or for a 2nd or 3rd round pick. Something along those lines. He’d be a good fit on a team with a young, up and coming goalie, who could play in a tandem with Murray. Murray eases him into the league, and the team only has to commit to 1 year.

Some Chicago fans on this board were open to doing Murray + 1st(#28) for a 2nd (#51)

Worst case we can explore something like that

Ideally we can move him to a team for a late round pick/future considerations

I don’t want him to lace them up for the leafs at all next season.

What about Marner, Murray, and 28, for Helly, Connor, and a 2nd?

Jets get a guy to play with Shieffle and a goalie, along with the 28th pick in the draft. Leafs get a Vezina candidate goaltender, a scorer to play in the top 6, and a pick to replace what they gave away

If the Leafs buy him out his cost to us will be:

23-24 - $680K

24-25 - $2 million.

Both those numbers are doable.

Also it seems that LTIR is gonna be used next year so it might not even be an issue.

I’d pay more than that for a 1st, so I prefer the buy out route

How do we feel about the UFA d men? Severson maybe?

It depends which route they take and how much Treliving wants to tweak it. Right now the Leafs are at this:

Rielly - Brodie
McCabe - Liljegren
Giordano - Timmins

It's obviously going to look different by October... but how much? I think re-signing Schenn is a no brainer but after that it's hard to see or know what they'll do. I'd trade Brodie for picks but I don't see them doing that if the goal is tweaking.

Severson would be a good target if the goal is to add more speed and skill. If you can get him under 6M, you're in a great spot with him. Orlov is another one that would be a great target but he will definitely get a lot of money this off-season.

Veterans that I could see the Leafs targeting to add more size/strength: Graves, Mayfield, Dumoulin, Gavrikov and Soucy.

Some depth D options: Stecher, Kulikov, Mackey, Bayreuther, Clifton and Burroughs.
