If you’re the Islanders, you take that and run. We think Marner is overpaid at 10.9 million, Barzal at 9.1 million is even worse.

Aside from year 1, Barzal hasn't cracked more than 62 points in a season, hasn’t even hit the 20 goal mark in the past 5 seasons and isn’t nearly as good as Marner on the defensive end all while missing quite a bit of games due to injuries the last few seasons.

I get Barzal has speed and he’s a center but Marner is in an entire tier above Barzal.
The proposal unquestionably makes even less sense for us. Couldn't say that I'd understand enough of the rationale from either side to even consider this.

Is there anyone's rights that could fetch a 3rd-7th round pick for?

I'd be shopping the hell out of them to try to add picks to this draft.

What I would like to see is Muzzin contract moved to Arizona so it will allow us to actually spend his cap during the summer instead of waiting til in season. Also move Murray plus a sweetener for a draft pick. Those 2 moves alone gives us an additional 11 million in cap space without really subtracting anyone from the roster.

Rather put the money into Mayfield. Severson is pretty brutal on the defensive side. He has Jake Gardiner moments.

He was waiver material last year. He has played better under a new system, he's still not reliable at all
No interest in him

For every good play he makes he makes 5 bonehead plays

There is offseason LTIR to throw Muzzin in if it comes to that. The issue is mostly being able to accrue cap space in season. If we're over the cap and using LTIR, we can't accrue cap space and it becomes very hard to do anything. This is why trading Muzzins contract should definitely be something the Leafs try to do.

Murray is 100% the priority to figure out, or at the very least goaltending as a whole. Woll is not being thrown on waivers.

Trade Murray, avoid signing those longterm contracts to mid tier FA's like Bertuzzi, Barbashev, etc. Bring in a top 4 D, re-sign Schenn, Acciari. Somehow also address the third line C. Ive accepted Tavares will probably be playing center again next year cause getting a 2C seems like it will be a pretty difficult task.

Cant really trust Treliving when it comes to signing some of these contracts unfortunately.

Toronto, no offense to Calgary, has a much better appeal for free agents. I'm very curious to see who he targets.

Anyone like the thought of Severson if he gets to UFA? 5*5?
Give me Soucy

I'm aware that we can throw Muzzin on LTIR once season starts but the issue with that is, we have to be cap compliant prior to the season starting. If we're able to move Muzzin's contract in the summer, that allows us to use his cap prior to the season starting and gives us a lot more flexibility.

Murray is 100% gone, question remains as to what we'll need to add to get rid of it.

Like I said, LTIR exists in the off-season so you can go over the cap plus the 10% anyway. Essentially there isn't much of an issue if Muzzins cap is kept and the Leafs use LTIR. Just assume his 5.75M cap hit to be used one way or another.

But as you said, flexibility is something the Leafs should aim for and accruing cap space in-season. It wouldn't be hard for the Leafs to dump Muzzins contract with a late pick, but they are already low on picks so we'll see.

Waddell saying he’s going to explore the trade market before July 1st.

I wonder if there could be anything involving Nylander or Marner there.

Barzal isn’t even a center. If Bo Horvat pushes you to wing, you were never a real center.

I'd need Svechnikov or him+ if it's Marner

I'm assuming most teams acquiring Nylander will have some ability to gauge a contract extension.

I’d love to acquire Svechnikov. I don’t see them moving him but it would be nice.

Could use one of our many winger prospects: Abruzzese/Steeves/etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they are preferable to a late round pick when those teams do need young talent to potentially play in the NHL... And both have waiver exemption for next year.

We won't have room for all of them anyways, so may as well use some of them while they are still valuable... And it is not like Treliving probably has any kind of special preference for any of them either.
