The question is, who replaces his production? Even with his January slump extending through the end of the season, he is still leading the team in points by 13. He has 21 powerplay points, Kempe is second highest point total among forward with 14 and then you have Kaliyev with 9. It's not even like he has been given the best forwards either, he only has 196 minutes out of 911 total minutes and he was the big winger acquisition this year.
You'll be waiting a long time for anyone to answer your question...

If Byfield doesnt start taking over that role by the end of next season the Kings are gonna be in trouble. At almost 21 years old he should be starting to become that player and by 22-23 he should be there with the supporting cast taking form. Clarke is a year behind him but may blossom earlier.

Remaining schedules. Try and predict the outcome:

VGK @ EDM (SOL)
VGK V. NJ (W)
VGK V. WSH (L)
VGK V. SJ (W)
VGK @ DAL (SOL)
VGK @ CHI (WIN)
VGK @ STL (L)

3-2-2, 8pts, 95pts total

LAK V. CBJ (W)
LAK @ ANA (W)
LAK V. CHI (SOL)
LAK V. ANA (L)
LAK @ SEA (W)
LAK @ VAN (L)

3-2-1, 7PTS, 95pts total

Vegas wins the tiebreaker.

The Kings are the only team in the race that has a sub .500 record in their last ten games. Out of all of them, only Nashville isn’t red hot.
NSH has a pretty brutal remaining schedule as well. In their remaining 8, they have STL, CAL (2), TBL, MIN, and COL.

From “just look at the standings, you guys are dramatic !” To now watching around the league since the SUCK caught up with the Kings now they don’t control their destiny and are only a couple points out of a spot. Weird how it happens. When they play terrible it’s almost like the standings begin to reflect it. Weird ! But THE NAYSAYERS DONT UNDERSTAND. Todd is steering the ship straight. And this ship is named the Titanic

Serious question(s)…are you actually a fan of the team? I ask because it seems like every single post from you is a f***ing jab at the Kings. You are either one miserable motherf***er in real life or just trolling this board all day long. Which one is it?

What reason do the Kings give you to ride them constantly all while getting mad at people who are upset the team is ass. Lol what’s your reason?

I’m starting to think that it might be best if we miss. Let’s get another better 1st round pick. We will get swept in the playoffs.

So your not gonna answer the question?
My non-answer technique is something I’ve mastered by reading your posts.
It's a pretty ridiculous question. Guy is on an internet message board talking about said team all the time. Non-fans don't do that. You might consider just how much of a knob you're being that I'm resorting to defending @Sol here.
I feel kinda dirty. Don’t ever do this again, in the pamphlet it states that we’re supposed to moderately dislike one another but not be too open about it.

Every young guy would rather play 10min and get swept in the 1st rd than not make the playoffs.
Initial reaction to possibly playing Colorado in the first round was I'd rather just miss the playoffs but that quickly changed to it being better for the young players to get the experience: even if it is only four games worth.

As a STH'er, I'm dreading the idea of going to see them get curb stomped by Colorado with a bunch of Avs fans all around enjoying every second of it. I haven't seen a home playoff win since 2014 and I don't think I'd be at one this year either if it is Colorado.

You realize that if the Kings miss the playoffs they will pick 16th and if they make the playoffs they will pick 17th, right?

Aren't we eligible for the lottery if we miss? Also, factor in the utter embarrassment of getting destroyed in the playoffs. There is no way we are even "in" a game. not sure what valuable experience that gives the team.

Still a building year in my mind, not that I don't want them to make the playoffs but I just think we've done pretty well this season all things considered.

When almost half our team got injured our rookies really stood up (especially on D) but we're finally falling back down to earth a bit which was expected when your top pairing on defense is injured. Still a very young team with a lot of growing to do, we see it in spurts but it's obvious that we're still not even close to competing with the top teams with this roster yet, especially with all the injuries.

We even make it into the playoffs and that's a win. We somehow make it to the second round and I'm beyond happy. Hell if we barely miss I won't even be that disappointed.

Colorado and Florida both took 4+ years to settle into their rosters and become elite. We still got a ways to go but we have enough talent already built up that I'm thinking we might see some speedier progression.

Posts like these are cancer.

Kings can blow it and still have something to feel good about.
A .140 increase in point percentage despite not having their #1 defense half the year?
First time over .500 since 17-18.

I think there are things to be concerned about.
I literally have no idea what the Kings' development system is doing.
Byfield flailing all year at C.
Vilardi regressing.
Kupari getting nowhere.
Akil Thomas regressing.
Turcotte getting nowhere.
Those are things to be concerned about.

If they blow the playoff race? Well, shit happens.
Most people didn't expect the playoffs this year anyway.

I had the same thought but then I knew that the difference in pick position would be negligible.

It would be better for Byfield and Co. to see what it takes to win just one playoff game, even if it is against Colorado. They haven't played in anything close to what the first 10 minutes of Game 1 will be like.

That's why missing now, and in this fashion, puts this season very much in the waste of time possibility. Black hole finish was always in play and a possibility during the rebuild but you'd like it to be slow start and then the youth starts to contribute and they help push the team into the race at the end. Instead, we've got a collapse here at the end and the young forwards aren't doing much while I think Turcotte is just a rumor at this point.

You end the season not very encouraged about the prospect pool at forward and wondering if we have an actual 1C next season or a competent goaltender. Outside of the surprise Durzi/Spence appearances, the bright spots of the season are career years from 25+ year olds where you don't know if they can do it again consistently with Kempe needing a new contract off of a true breakout season.

Lots to be excited about at the end of the 2009 season which was the 3rd year of DL's rebuild. #1C/#1D/#1G are all kids with a bunch of other young contributors as well. Playoffs in Year 4. This is Blake's 4th year and they still might make the playoffs like in DL's rebuild. A healthy Doughty and they probably aren't sweating as much at this point but you still aren't thinking about what an amazing future this team has. DL had so much more young talent that he could bank on--inherited in 23/11/32--versus what Blake has and Blake still inherited the #1C/#1W/#1D and, I suppose, the #1G on this team.

As fans, we just have such a "what the f*** do we have on our hands here with this team" when you would have really liked some clarity. Maybe we do have clarity on most of the draftees from 2017 - 2019 and we just don't want to believe what we are seeing. It's Blake's job to have that clarity though so I hope he knocks it out of the park this offseason so we can be legitimately excited about the team's chances come opening night. Until then, we are going to be sitting here as either a non-playoff team or a team that was in the playoffs for a week wondering how this team gets better.

My first idea is that Byfield lives at the Kings training facility all summer: literally. Like, have his mail forwarded there type shit.

Wouldn't just be better to miss the NHL playoffs and let Byfield and crew go through the AHL playoffs with the Reign? Maybe they would gain some confidence and swagger?
