Look I know the deployments have been different and his injury and yada yada but it’d be really f***ing nice to have a talented guy like Stutzle playing for the Kings.

Are you saying we could end the season with 100 points and still miss the playoffs? Why does that not sound logical to me?

Technically yes--Vegas, Nashville, Dallas could basically win out (there are a few losses built in there--there's a HUGE VGK vs. Dallas game in game...80?, for example). Realistically, no.

In theory, yes, but that most likely won't happen. If the Kings win their remaining 6 games and end up with 100 points, the following scenarios would need to happen:

Colorado: 0-9, 112 points
Calgary: 1-7, 101 points
Minnesota: 2-7-1, 101 points
St. Louis: 2-6-1, 101 points
Edmonton: 5-2-1, 101 points
Nashville: 6-3, 101 points
Dallas: 6-2-1, 101 points
Vegas: 8-0, 101 points
Los Angeles: 6-0, 100 points

(It's important to note that LA has the lowest amount of ROW among teams in the playoff picture, so teams finishing with 100 points would still beat us.)

Now, is that likely or even possible? Vegas plays Calgary tonight and Edmonton, Dallas, and St. Louis later this season, so that would be one of Edmonton's and Dallas's remaining allowed losses this season. And Dallas and Edmonton play each other next week, so that would be one of their losses too. Besides that, the math appears to work out. It's possible we could miss the playoffs with 100 points. The least likely scenario out of all these though is that we win six in a row, so the point's pretty much moot.

It gets real scary when we look at scenarios in which we win four of the next six games and finish with 96 points. That's an optimistic scenario and it wouldn't take much from these other teams to match 96 points.

Edmonton: 3-5, 96 points
Nashville: 3-5-1, 96 points
Dallas: 4-5-0, 96 points
Vegas: 5-2-1, 96 points
Los Angeles: 4-2, 96 points

Given this scenario, we miss the playoffs with 96 points.

Pretty much worst case scenarios all around, I'm out of belief at this point, the hockey gods just straight hate this franchise.

This season pretty much is playing out worst case scenario. Barely missing the Playoffs on the backs of over-working veterans. Wasted opportunity to really integrate the young forwards. I guess some experience is better than none.

The big question will be if the plan next season is to try prop up an aging Kopitar again to try and squeeze production out of him. He shouldn't have the best forwards on his line anymore when he is constantly losing matchups now with them. Certainly not for the good of the franchise.

If Dallas had won tonight instead of getting a loser point, this night would have been literally worst case scenario for LA. Can't even get a good effort from Calgary.

The cream will rise to the top. Whether that is LA is a whole different conversation.

Edmonton and Vegas stumbled this year with losing streaks and injuries.

Can’t imagine them and Calgary won’t still be top three teams next year too.

The Kings were extremely lucky to be In the position they were in. You don’t deserve playoffs if your success is coming from points against the eastern conference primarily

The question is, who replaces his production? Even with his January slump extending through the end of the season, he is still leading the team in points by 13. He has 21 powerplay points, Kempe is second highest point total among forward with 14 and then you have Kaliyev with 9. It's not even like he has been given the best forwards either, he only has 196 minutes out of 911 total minutes and he was the big winger acquisition this year.

Tonight's games should be amazing

Edmonton Nashville
Minnesota Dallas
Vegas Calgary
Vegas smoked Calgary tonight 6-1. I won't be surprised if the Flames throttle back a bit with a 7-point cushion in the standings. It's Sutter. This is the way.

Vancouver is rolling over the Yotes 6-1, with the win they have been on a 107 point pace since Boudreau was hired. I don't think they have enough games left to catch the playoffs, but I wouldn't be shocked if they were contenders next season along with Vegas, Calgary and Edmonton. The west could end up pretty crowded.
