imagine if they would have brought someone big in and missed.

that would be on Blake to worry over

i think, given the lack of experience yet sitting 2nd in the Pacific, it would have sent a real strong message and support to the team by bringing in a top 9 forward for a 1st and prospect

but the fact that he didn't. might as well tell the team, we're not ready yet, and i don't have faith in you guys at all

Well, if that's the case, then he was right, no?

And if these guys are that psychologically fragile then it wasn't a self-fulfilling prophecy anyway, Blake is just a genius.

Or, “I have so much faith in you guys that I didn’t feel we needed to change anything that might change the team chemistry”.

It goes both ways and Blake made the right call. Blowing assets for a likely first round exit, even if you make it in, is not thinking long term.

This is so true. And if the team misses the playoffs the organization will be in disaster recovery mode in the summer.

Outside of Giroux, the names moved at the deadline were truly uninspiring: Jarnkrok, Hagel, Vatrano, Sturm, Jost.

Which of those guys gets the Kings into the playoffs?

Any of those guys would be an improvement over the current versions of Vilardi, Byfield, Kupari, and Iafallo. A veteran D would have helped as well. Spending some combination of a 2nd, 3rd, and mid-level prospect to add something to the roster would have sent a positive message. It wasn't like the team was in 4th place and a longshot to make the playoffs at the TDL. Blake either didn't think improving the roster for a playoff run was a priority or he didn't have the experience necessary to get it done.

Jarnkrok is a 30 point guy. Hagel was traded for two firsts and two former 2nd round picks, no thank you. Vatrano 30 point guy. Sturm not even 20 point guy. Jost barely a 20 point guy. And Sturm and Jost are extremely redundant on the Kings.

Not a single one of those guys replaces anyone currently on the roster and at the cost of assets. I would absolutely rather have Vilardi in and learning than a Calle Jarnkrok MAYBE mediocring us to maybe a first round exit.

I wanted Nick Paul at the deadline for a second and JAD, which is pretty much what TB paid for him. Blake seems to excel at turning scrubs into diamonds, so it seemed like the type of dumpster dive he’d go hard after.

That one I could get on board with, at least he's a different element, Crouse-lite, big ass dude.

Vatrano would look pretty good right now. And there isn't enough bandwidth on the internet for you to convince me that Vilardi is even an NHL player right now. Are you really that frightened to give up a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th to help the team make the playoffs this year? That is just crazy.

It's not about being frightened to give up the 4th, it's about getting the 22 year old prospect meaningful games rather than the mediocre 28 year old UFA who likely barely moves the needle.

You'll have a hard time convincing me that Vatrano getting points next to Panarin is even anything remotely close to what would be happening here, anyway.

Equally crazy. If Blake's priority is to give a 22 year-old prospect meaningful games over the team making the playoffs than ownership needs to replace Blake ASAP. Especially when that 22 year-old has a very dubious NHL future.

Vilardi has been playing really well lately. He looks good offensively and has been very responsible defensively and making sure to make smart plays to break out of his zone without turning it over.

Vilardi had a key turnover vs. Calgary that resulted in the game tying goal being scored shortly after and has scored twice in 14 games since being called up. The expectation was offensive production, and it just hasn't been there, call me a stat watcher, that is fine, for guys like him the expectation is to generate goals for him or his linemates.

The Kings are probably going to make or miss the playoffs by 1-2 points, there are way bigger issues (Iafallo, Kopitar, Peterson) but the lack of offensive production from our third line players the entire season has certainly cost us more points than that in the standings. An average NHL third line and we are a playoff team.

Yea I wish the production was better. Though he seems to be coming on lately. Had some key passes that he didnt get a point for. Had a nice screen that helped a goal a couple games ago. Good possession. Hoping the points start coming. Im hoping he succeeds here.

Not any more dubious than any of the guys on that list. The reason they're available for scraps is because they're scraps.

I guess my point is more that you're suggesting trading for Vatrano was a guaranteed playoff berth and that claim is just a little spicy for me. And even if it does, Vatrano getting playoff games over Vilardi or Kupari or whoever kind of defeats the purpose of the retool.

you are definitely new to hockey

teams still manage to always add when they are confident about their roster

why would Tampa add every following year from a cup win?

so you are saying that every team in the top 16 added, except LA because only LA didn't want to mess with their chemistry?

it doesn't go both ways.... and to think with your top 4 D out, having a confidence vote with 6 inexperienced Ds confirms that Blake should not be GM for another second

furthermore, thinking LONG TERM... LOLLL we've been doing this long term thing for half a decade now, also
why didn't they trade away their UFAs then? your statement doesn't make sense, and it's ok

I was thinking the same thing about the third line, it’ll be exposed in the playoffs. If we even make it.
