Playoffs: Don't Tell Me The Odds

I wanna get a thread going of photos of everyone's playoff bracket predictions through the finals to see who is closest. Gotta pick the series score for each one. See who is closest. Any interest? Someone can create a file or we can upload our own. Any takers?

There used to be a site that simulated all different types of point standings, 3 point, 4 Point, W/L etc. but I can't find it and suspect it's not a thing anymore. Likely because, as pointed out, the different systems rarely made much of a difference. You might see teams more reluctant to allow the game to go to OT and/or SO though if there were fewer points to be earned, which might add merit to the discussion.

That's the whole point, and nothing else. It makes for more exciting games to watch. I used to be a fan of an NHL team (Kings) and a KHL team (Slovan, attending the games in person) simultaneously, so I was able to compare this on a day-to-day and week-to-week basis, and let me tell you that there really is no comparison.

You either have a sense of urgency in a tied game, or you don't. The difference in the "feel" of the game for the viewer (and, I'm sure, for the players) is enormous, radical.

The current "loser point" NHL system is complacent, lazy, cozy, and creating fake parity, making tied games boring to watch instead of exciting.

So, because it happened once in 23 years, it's less valid than a system where all games have equal value, and we need to manufacture additional drama?

What if it was flat 2 points for a win, regardless of how it was done, and 0 points for a loss, regardless of overtime or not?
Personal I’d be happy with 0 points for a loss, I also had no issue with each team getting a point after OT. The change that were made I’m fine with, I‘m fairly neutral on the whole penalty shot system. Yes, my one experience of 3 pts for a win was not great and it may or may not turn out that way in the NHL. I completely acknowledge the small sample size.

I just don’t see the argument for it, I guess, does it really add something tangible or is it change for the sake of change?

I think it'd be nice to do the Hollywood Playoff Avatars again if the kings get in. The ones after that were pretty weak. The hollywood one was memorable and fun.

I've never liked the concept of a three point game, or awarding loser points. I'd rather see a system where it's two points for a win and overtime is 10 minutes of five on five. No winner after 10 minutes means no points.

I'm not saying that anything is a given either way, just that anyone that's followed hockey for any amount of time should know that anything can happen, and probably will.
Agreed. Just pointing out that even if the Kings fold and lose their final 2 games, Vegas will have to go 3-0 all on the road as well.

I addressed and described that in the post immediately preceding yours. Yes, it's as tangible as can be, and anything but a formal "change for change's sake".

A tie results in zero points for both teams?

Please do not return to allowing ties. Having 15-20% of a team’s games end with no winner is horrible. You’ll get coaches of lesser teams going into a defensive shell. Many coaches are trying to ruin OT now by trying to run out the clock and taking their chances with the shootout. Imagine a team like Seattle for example trying to play to a 0-0 tie with the Avs. Not a way to grow their fan base for the team or league. M

Oiler fans are probably saying the same thing about our D. We are very young and don’t have much playoff experience, so let them think what they may. I’m comfortable with the matchup. We just need to stop McDavid and Draisaitl from turning into Supermen - keep them as Clark Kents.
