Wondering how good of a prospect Poehling is?

I see a lot of comments about Matheson being shit. I think you guys are going to love him.

Matheson is incredible and honestly I think he's on the up.

Edit he isn't a prospect he's 23 Big F.
Poehling is at best, at best, a third line center. Don't expect much.

It's not that bad a trade watched him In Pitt
Had a pretty good year last seaosn
Plays Pp skates well gets points
He's from the province
could also be moved easier than Petry
Not crazy about letting pale go
People forget that someone just gave Gudbransom 4m for 4 years. In comparison Matheson is much better!

More place for Jake Evans, happy to see Poehling gone, Evans is the best between 2.
I said it before the season started that he was a bust and got chastised for it.

To think i was being told by the MB and Timmins cheerleaders how Olofsson, Poehling and even Evans had the potential to be #2 C's....lol.

I wonder where they are now..

I guess I'm one of the few happy with the return and Poehling finally getting traded. I never had the impression he liked it here.

Hugues managed to get a younger vet dmen who can skate and do transition. That's already better than the other two vet dmen who were on the team beside Petry. Also, he's a local boy and has a lower salary.

Next: getting a vet RD and signing Dach/Monty + move one or two forwards to create some cap space.

WTF are posters complaining about? Petry is 6 years older than Matheson but Matheson makes 1+ mill less and is only a slight downgrade when we don't even want to contend.
Poehling was stuck behind 5 other guys at C, is basically a plumber right now
and we save 2 mill on the cap.
It's a good deal.
HuGo can always move matheson if he wants to

Haven't read this whole thread, but Petry was embarrassing last year. Completely mailed it in, and that is why his value was so low. Question is, was this the regression of a 34 YO dman or just the result of a year long pout.

And he also was non existent during the Cup run. I realize he had the hand injury, and the devil eye thing, but he has been MIA for 18 months now. I can see why teams wouldn't be excited about bringing him on. Also, his playoff numbers, overall are pretty bad.

Lastly, I'm glad we didn't retain. That's a loser's game, to pay a player to play somewhere else and not add an asset / roster player. We still need 8 D and we don't have 8 NHL D with Petry out, So even if Matheson is overpaid by 1MM, that is much better IMO then paying Petry 2MM per to play somewhere else.

Poehling is the wildcard, but hard to see any top 6 upside and we have loads of prospects.

Overall trade is meh, but so are the players traded. Pens probably win this one, but if fans are frustrated by that, anger should be at Petry who gave up on the team.

I’m ok with the trade, his salary is ok, and he younger than Petry. RP is no loss, I don’t think he’s a nhl regular.

Poehling has size and get get streaky good. His biggest obstacles are injuries/concussions and consistency - 3C upside potential.

He's nothing like Savard and Ed.

My comparaison is base on their use and skill sets.
More defensive, 2nd pairing material.

Who will run the PP so our kids can get some points on the board and gain confidence?
Cause right now, I really hope Barron make the team cause Wideman is the best we got for this.

I'm not really sure what to make of him. I think he has the tools to be a bottom 6 center. He's got good size, skates well, and seems to be a good team guy. He struggles alot with consistency, and maybe a fresh start is what the doctor ordered.

With the new management, he just got lost in the shuffle, but I'll be interested to see if he can establish a full time role in Pittsburgh.

Barron - Savard
Harris - Wideman

Or

Makar - Toews
Girard - Byram
Johnson - Manson

Its good. We just need 6 new D to be closer to a Cup.

I think you are confusing Julien with Patrice.
No. What has Brisbois done. Yzerman built the team that won 2 Cups.. We'll see in the next couple of years what Brisebois can do as a GM. I am sure he was a very goo AGM.

...I was going to call him a poor man's Puljujarvi, but that's not even really true, tbh...Poehling has the attributes (Size, Speed) to be soo much more than he is, but he just can't put it together at all really...not really good at anything...not a bust, imo, but a meh Bottom Sixer/extra body...
