Mmmmmmmmmpoehling was very unsatisfying.
Great terms.Pitlick re-signed for 1,1 M $ per season for two seasons.
People were creaming their panties here when Petry was signed to that extension. Some truly embarrassing comments in this thread from a lot of Canadiens fans who don't have a clue what they are talking about.
People calling Mike Matheson "an awful defensemen" are dumber than a bag of rocks.
Get a clue. Watch some games.
I promise you that Mike Matheson will plug a hole for the Canadiens for a season or two and then be flipped, likely at a deadline, for decent value.
He's a decent two-way defensemen who I personally advocated the Canadiens target when the Panthers were rumoured to be interested in moving him. He's coming off career bests for goals, assists and points, is very mobile and be plugged in on one of the Canadiens power play units.
He's a place holder who can log a lot of minutes on a lousy Canadiens blue line next year and then he can be moved out when the time comes.
He runs the team, it's his team. I doubt Hughes makes trades without consulting him.Well, to be fair, he can't do bad moves because he's not a General Manager.
Wideman and a forward like Suzuki or Hoffman. The Pens ranked 22nd on the PP last year... This is why they want Petry...Matheson had a good offensive season but 0 PP goals... Will be interesting to see who St-Louis will place at the blue line as PP specialists!
Yes. Poehling was awful. BUT, Habs are very shallow at C. Outside the 4 regulars (Suzuki-Dvorak-Dach-Evans).... they have next to none. Maybe Rem Pitlick can help once in a while. Nobody good in Laval.
Drouin, Byron and Pezzetta can all also fill in at C.
euhhhhh....... I prefer Pitlick.Drouin, Byron and Pezzetta can all also fill in at C.
Good post, agree. And maybe not even get moved out, this team will be competitive when Matheson is still on contract, and 4.5 will age well as the cap increases. He fits our window much better, and frankly we don't need any more picks or B prospects, cupboard is full there. Some truly embarrassing comments in this thread from a lot of Canadiens fans who don't have a clue what they are talking about.

Matheson is not defensive at all, his 11 goals at ES put him 9th in the entire league for D's goal scoring. My comparaison is base on their use and skill sets.
More defensive, 2nd pairing material.
Who will run the PP so our kids can get some points on the board and gain confidence?
Cause right now, I really hope Barron make the team cause Wideman is the best we got for this.

"He's one of the best D's in the league" and " that contract is gonna age well because his play won't dip"
To go from that to "what do you expect, he had no value" is what makes this sad.
He runs the team, it's his team. I doubt Hughes makes trades without consulting him.
Hey! You back!Well, to be fair, he can't do bad moves because he's not a General Manager.
Is Dach the only one not signed yet ?After the trade and the Pitlick signing, the Habs now have, according to CapFriendly, $1.24M in cap space. If they want to create more cap space, they can either ship out other players or at worst, they can place someone on Off-Season LTIR, which would most likely be Byron. So that would create an extra $3.4M in cap space for them.
They can also go 10% over the cap in the off-season.
No you're not.I’m I the only one okay with this deal?
100% what i think too.
Imagine thinking we would get a 1st for 34 year old guy with several years left, high cap and coming off the worst season of his career + requesting a trade. That's just wishful thinking. We are lucky we got Matheson, have you guys seen his playoffs?
Who’s your bordeline NHL centre in case of emergency? That was Poehling. Jake gets injured once or twice a season. Dach, unsure of his physical status. You need more.We have 4 nhl Centers How many more do you need?
Is Dach the only one not signed yet ?

Consider though that Petry became an expensive liability at 34. Which team was really willing to give a king's ransom? A prospect and 2nd rounder would have been fine. This trade hurts the rebuild.
Matheson seems like another Alzner, but Petry was just like him when he came to Montreal. If Matheson has the will to do well, he can become a top pairing D in his home town. If things don't workout, the Habs saved about 2 mil in capspace for the next 4 years.
I have a feeling that HuGo wants to shed as much salary for Molson as he can. The plan is not working out lol.
Love the player. Hate his injuries. His time is done....at least in MTL. Considering your got him off waivers, getting a 6-7th rounder at this point would be quite sufficient.Byron is ltir
