We understand why all these moves were done. But was not there more clever ways to do moves and stay a more relevant team ? Lehkonen and Romanov should still be Habs. And Wright should had been the #1 pick.

This is a brutal trade. Petry's value wasn't high because of last year's performance. I expect him to rebound in Pittsburgh though.

The goal was to get picks or prospects, not other Alzner/Savard clones.

I didn't expect much from new management after that controversial first pick and Dach/Romanov move, but this deal is horrendous.

They will be icing a bunch of Morisettes for years to come.

No one was gonna trade meaningful picks/prospects for Petry.

Hughes was his agent, knows him well, says he's a great guy to mentor the youngsters, saves 1.5 in cap space or so, had to trade Petry anyway, clock was ticking.

Thats a few players already that Hughes "knows well" and tries to fetch for. Is this a hockey team or just a bunch of his clients?

I don't really care that he was his agent, seems the only players he goes for are ones he knows personally. Getting way too personal with his decisions, won't be a good hockey team with this mindset.

Another 1st round pick bites the dust with the Habs. Quite sad. But Poehling was due to fail. He was injured. Was yo-yoe'd between Laval and Montreal. Had a questionable attitude when sent back to Laval the first time. Did not impress much at NHL level. One of the few who regressed under MSL. He should do well in Pittsburg USA. He was the bonus to give to Pitts to get rid of Petry.

Petry had to go (unfortuneteley) and he is gone. Ms Petry is uber happy and that's what counts. Now we can understand why they traded d-men with NJ earlier today.

Matheson is a better D than he was when in Florida. He is a Montrealer !!! Right side of the D is a nightmare now with only Savard - Wideman - Barron. On the left: Edmundson - Matheson - Harris. What was the point of trading Romanov again ?

The line up is pretty much set up. But another trade could free up more $$$ under the cap. Drouin's ?

Petry can play offensively something Matheson never once did in his sorry career.

Also don't get it wrong with those Advanced stats , 1 played with Letang Crosby etc while the other played with Wideman and Chariot

I wouldn't say less physical, his game is based on skating more than force but Matheson hits hard.

I'm just looking at the numbers compared to Petry1, so good to know about Petry2.
