We may want to check back in on this at the end of McDavid's career (and Mike Trout's), and Barry Sanders has a VERY strong claim to the title as well, but it's at least in consideration.

So does Eric Lindros. As a Flyers fan you should know that.

Trout and Sanders for sure.

At least McDavid's teams have seen tangible top tier success. No cups yet, sure, but he's played like 40 playoff games lifting a team from garbage to among the best in the conference

How much do you think it'd take to get Howie to coach up Briere and Torts on how to run a draft? Because that was an absolute f***ing clinic last night. What an unbelievable outcome.

Trading up for Carter wasn't impossible i thought, but i figured he wouldn't make it past Chicago. That being who they moved up with, and for only a day 3 pick next year, is hard to believe. Nolan Smith falling to 30 is just unfathomable; i keep expecting there to be a report of some red flag about him that we didn't know about. If he only fell because of his size then i dunno, maybe other NFL teams are just run by stupid people.

I'm all in on Ringo for obvious reasons

I just watched the video of the Lions war room going completely bonkers after drafting a dang RB at #12. Bad positional value and not even remotely a position of need for them. As bad as that pick was, that video made it somehow worse.

You might be onto something here.

Lindros at least had a team built around him capable of making the Finals, even if they did get blown out when they got there. Still up there, but that's less egregiously wasting a player than the cases I mentioned. Barry Sanders won a single postseason game in his career, and never played with a quarterback better than Rodney Peete. If he won a Super Bowl, he'd basically have had to do it by himself. Trout has been to the postseason exactly once in his career, got swept, and has nothing resembling a team capable of making it back there. Ohtani's one season away from abandoning a sinking ship, and Trout can't go anywhere for years to come, IIRC.

McDavid's a bit less of an example than those two from that perspective, because at least he has Draisaitl, and has made it out of the second round once (though they got swept in the conference finals) and look potentially legit this year. Still, for the consensus best player in the sport to have not yet made a Cup final, that's a strong case.

I wonder who over pays to move up to 1st in the 2nd rd to pick Will Levis?
I have a feeling anyone moving up for a QB is going to be looking at pick 33, instead. Joey Porter Jr to the Steelers feels like destiny. That said, I think whoever wants Levis has to leapfrog the Rams, who need to figure out Stafford's heir apparent fairly soon.

So it looks like you folks are ecstatic with your picks and I'm very happy with Buffalo stealing the best TE at the last second from Dallas. Go suck an udder, Cowgirls.

The Rams are still trying to win now. They need to use the few picks they have on guys who will get on the field. Also, the notion of heir apparents is bullshit, imo

What's wild is, I think Cowboys fans didn't want a TE but they assumed management did. Most fans I see are pretty happy with Mazi honestly.

Can't say I agree with the idea of not drafting and training the guy you think is going to be your next quarterback until you've already imploded, that feels like a surefire way to spin your wheels for decades trying and failing to find someone like the Browns, but to each their own.
