I've been out of the loop lately because of "life." But why is Carter considered the best player in the draft, but also fell to us? Was it just because team needs?

They had other offers to move down and were going to take one. But they preferred going to 10 because it guaranteed them Darnell Wright and the others didn't. Ryan Poles said this directly last night.

There could have been another team that wanted to trade up to 9 knowing that the Eagles would take him at 10?
Thank you. I knew I was missing something. Always loved the Eagles!!!

Best of luck!!

@deadhead I don't know if you're familiar with this account, but it belongs to a former Eagles coach/scout. This is what I was trying to explain about Smith's run defending and why I think they wouldn't try him at WILL, at least at first.

Those skills would also serve him well at WLB, who have to be able to handle TEs and OL in the NFL to make run stops.

I"m just curious if he could handle the role, imagine if he could handle 4-3 WLB, 3-4 WLB and SLB and ILB and some 4-3 DE - imagine the fun a DC could have pre-snap!

It really comes down to instincts, Kyron Johnson is almost as athletic but lacks the instincts to play LB.

Trading down isn't always about how much you get, it is also what you are passing up if you go back further.

So, was Wright plus 2024 4th a better combo to get than say whatever they would do at say 17 or something and a 3rd instead of the 4th? Once you got past Jones of Georgia, there was a dip in the quality of OT you got. Jax took the next one about 10 spots after Pitt in the mid 20's.
