I don't know wtf happened to Dion. It seems we're better off with him playing under 12 min a game. He's a liability out there.

He can't ice the puck, gets man-handled in front of his own net, weak/awful puck handling, slow (lazy?) and can't skate, hits his own team mates, can't hit the net, etc...

Remind me why he's our captain again? :help:

if he was not the captain and NOT due to be the 5th highest cap hit among all D in the league or not even remotely close to being looked at in a leadership role, ok

but adding it all up , he has to go

Was at the game tonight.

Fans already seemed to be getting on him. Any mistake he made, and there were a lot of them, was followed by a chorus of boos and heckles. Not anything over the top, but enough to make note of.

Quite frankly, I can't say I blame them.

I noticed that from the broadcast, but I thought it started after he couldn't get the puck out and the 2nd Blues goal was scored.

Why boo one when you can boo them both?

The entire team is going down the tube, not just clarkson. He's far from the most of our problems. I'll be happy to see how he does next year, which in my opinion will be mostly defined by if we get a new coach with a better system, overhaul the defense significantly, as well as a big chunk of our bottom 6 and maybe some of our top 6 as well.

So basically, I'm expecting everything to stay the same and clarkson to suck.

Dion played well before the Olympic break, was +20 going into it and was having his best season as a Leaf.

Not sure what has happened since coming back from break, he may be banged up, if he is he shouldn't be playing because he is not playing well.

Other than that, there is no excuse for not addressing the media today. No Captain I recalled for this team declined to stand up and answer the tough questions. No excuse for this.

He has not played all that well all season. In fact has took most of the season off letting Gunnar do all the heavy lifting all season.....it has been since Carlyle has started to dress 7 d man and even now that they are dressing 6 but changing the pairs that he has looked horrible as he has not had Gunnar as much to bail his ass out.

Gunnar has been our best D all season long in my opinion and more and more we are seeing Leadership from Gunnar...

Since going to a rotation on D: 15 games

Dion -9
Ranger +6
Gunnar +2
Reilly -1
Gardiner -2
Franson -1

Interesting is it not!

I wouldn't be surprised that Phaneuf becomes a better player elsewhere just like Murphy.
I have almost zero doubt about that.

Don't get me wrong - I'm all for upgrading our defense, but part of the reason they look so bad is because the forwards don't support them properly at all. They didn't when Wilson was here and they still don't with Carlyle here.

I mean, even when our defensemen win a battle behind the net - which they don't do often enough, mind you - what're they supposed to do with it? Both the wingers and center are almost invariably standing in the slot, so the d-man's only real option is to either throw a risky pass up the middle to a stationary winger and.... hope they can clear it out, because they're unlikely to have any skating room, or wrap it around the boards and hope it either squeaks by the defenseman or the winger miraculously makes it over there in time.

Who would play all those minutes?
-UFA's don't sign here (except Clarckson for good reasons)
-Gardiner has been traded 5000 times this year on these boards (and he's not able to do that)
-Reilly not ready
-Ranger????

some people have to relaxe about bringing Percy or Granberg. If you guys think Phaneuf plays bad, put those guys out there and see what happens. Without Phaneuf, we would be picking top 5 again.

what i took from watching the game live.

I wouldnt care if everyone, save top line, Gardiner/Rielly and Bernier, were shipped out and never seen again.

Rielly and Gardiner are our best d. it's unbelievable watching Dion on the top PP and end of the game..pushing the puck around or swatting it aimlessly over to Franson.

Clarkson..i seriously dont think this is an off year.....he has no creativity, no smarts, nothing.

this team is bad and man do i wish we could do a clean slate (keeping the players mentioned) heck id take a tank next year if it ment change in direction

Phaneuf is fine as a number 1 D. He isn't elite, but he isn't the problem.

We need to build around him, and that starts with being patient with Gardiner and Rielly, and getting rid of Franson.

Excusing the rough game today he hasn't been bad but you have to wonder if he'll still be a useful player by the time the Leafs will be ready to contend. His footspeed is already lacking and he looks gassed when the Leafs are forced to play him 25 minutes.

Are you suggesting that the "banged up" situation happened during the break? (since according to you, he was playing really well before the break)

lets see, miss the playoffs and draft 14th and have dion for 7 more years at 7m cap hit or draft top 5?

lmao is that the choice you put infront of me????, hrmmmm that's a real real tough choice.

He looked gassed tonight and he only played 20 mins . I'm getting tired of excusing his play because he's playing too many . He's getting paid like an elite D and he should be able to handle the mins if he was truly a num 1 .

frankly ,the goal he was really striving for this season was a fail and that was to make team Canada
, I think his heart is broke

I was in utter shock when I saw the interview and that was the goal that came out of his mouth, no no not winning the cup, it was him making the big O squad.

Gunner has played very well all season while doing more than his share of the heavy lifting . DP has been a cluster ***** every time he's been paired with some one other than Gunner and this was no different from last year as well.

Ill save the hate for the guy who plays no PP, no PK , no crucial minutes and makes 5+Mil.

Kulemin and McClement better walk, Komarov better laugh when Nonis approaches, because we have no room to offer guys fair money when you drop a blank cheque at Clarkson and Dion
