Time to 'Murphy' Phaneuf

I've been patient with Dion, but no longer. WE WILL NOT WIN WITH HIM AS OUR CAPTAIN AND HIGHEST PAID DEFENSEMAN. He has slowed down and shys away from most physical confrontation. His puck handling is a disaster. He has been a major part of all the choke jobs. I can go on and on about the bonehead mistakes me makes, but the bottom line is we won't win with him as our #1. Even if we somehow get lucky and sneak into the playoffs, we won't be going very far.

One day a plug, one day should garner Norris consideration. Funny place this is.

I've always felt he's a mid to lower end #1. I also think that for the last 5-7 games or so he's playing with some sort of injury.

It appeaers it is a brain injury. The guy couldn't figure out how to dump the puck for 5 seconds. He is slower than I thought.

Booing Murphy was idiotic. He wasn't good in Toronto, but fans destroyed what value he had left. Absolutely destroyed it. All "Murphying" Dion would do is send him off to some other team for a song.

So he can go elsewhere, prove that the majority of Leaf fans have no idea what they are talking about and win the Stanley Cup?

Let's Murphy Clarkson. Leafs should take an iTunes gift card for him

This is year 1 for Clarkson. Tho I think he's been god awful and deserves to be on the 4th line, if not in the press box, Dion has been a major part of 3 epic collapes. Game 4 loss was Phaneufs fault aswell. Not the guy I want leading my team.

What do people think this accomplishes?
It destroys their trade value if they had any. If they didn't it makes them even harder to trade.
It negatively affects their on ice play hurting the team even more.

you would think people want their team to get better not worse.

In a secondary role he could for sure. Be a Bouwmeester to a Petro.

As the leader, captain and #1 D of the Toronto Maple Leafs I can't see him taking us to the finals.

Honestly, at this point, I don't think we could give Dion away with that contract. I really hope the guy proves me wrong, I do...but my god..these 3 collapses are messing me up, and he always seems to be right in the middle of it.

Phatard isn't bright enough to realize the boos are directed at him . I'm also not into booing our own players .

DP is a 2nd pair D that Burke pimped and elevated to the face of the franchise to distract the fans from the piss poor job he was doing . It's not DP's fault he isn't talented or bright enough to fill the role that was thrust on him .

Phaneuf is fine as a number 1 D. He isn't elite, but he isn't the problem.

We need to build around him, and that starts with being patient with Gardiner and Rielly, and getting rid of Franson.

Hopefully the Leafs will be able to find another team that is willing to part with good asset(s) for Phaneuf. I wouldn't be surprised that Phaneuf becomes a better player elsewhere just like Murphy. It will be an interesting off season for sure.

He could be playing hurt or just otherwise going through a tough stretch.

Whatever the case, Carl Gunnarsson and Jake Gardiner are the best defenseman on the team at the moment and have been for the past several weeks.

Perhaps the weight of being the captain is too much for Phaneuf. This would be a diplomatic way for him to relinquish the C. I don't have a problem with him as a player. I would prefer if he wasn't the "leader".

Dion played well before the Olympic break, was +20 going into it and was having his best season as a Leaf.

Not sure what has happened since coming back from break, he may be banged up, if he is he shouldn't be playing because he is not playing well.

Other than that, there is no excuse for not addressing the media today. No Captain I recalled for this team declined to stand up and answer the tough questions. No excuse for this.

finally someone that makes sense.

Was at the game tonight.

Fans already seemed to be getting on him. Any mistake he made, and there were a lot of them, was followed by a chorus of boos and heckles. Not anything over the top, but enough to make note of.

Quite frankly, I can't say I blame them.

I don't know wtf happened to Dion. It seems we're better off with him playing under 12 min a game. He's a liability out there.

He can't ice the puck, gets man-handled in front of his own net, weak/awful puck handling, slow (lazy?) and can't skate, hits his own team mates, can't hit the net, etc...

Remind me why he's our captain again? :help:
