Why is he playing through injuries if he's hurting his team on the ice with bad plays? He needs to be on IR if that's the case.

To be fair... There are A LOT of people who have disliked Phaneuf and his game since he got here.
For whatever reason, I've always been a little indifferent to him. Having said that, and watching him for 4 or 5 years now I can safely say he is completely overrated.
He's not brutal... But he has a lot more bad games then good ones. He's a bonehead, zero hockey sense and completely inconsistent. Not to mention his coverage is laughable most times.
We need a serious upgrade.

Phaneuf makes more money than Zdeno freaking Chara and he's not even half as good as him...Chara can even skate faster than Phaneuf front and backwards at age 37.
Phaneuf just do what Luongo did and give up the "C". There isn't even an "A" on this team let alone "C".

He must have been injured since he got here because he play exactly the same now as then. And there is not one player in the league who is not injured one way or the other right now. Shoulders, knees, backs, necks, wrists etc are all hurting. This is the NHL and players are supposed to play through it.
But why does this potential crippling phantom injure force him to make so poor decisions? One thing if he got a wrecked leg, that could explain his poor skating. A fractured wrist could explain his poor puck handling. But he keeps making the wrong decisions all the time along with freezing like if he does not know what to do at all.
Get him out.

I can't believe there are people in this thread defending him. This isn't a depth guy... or second pairing guy even.
Phaneuf is being paid to be THE guy... #1 defenceman to carry the team. Yet, he makes the worst decisions on the entire team due to the fact he has 0 game sense. 0 defense awareness in his own zone. Looks like he doesn't even care out there.
Reilly should have been out there at the end of the game.

Just can't believe how lacking Phaneuf's game is. Hoped against hope they wouldn't sign him. He has average speed at best (will only get slower); lacks intensity on most nights, and no opposition player has any fear of charging net and recovering pucks cuz he is soft as butta! Another bad contract that will haunt the next gm.

Edmonton is desperate for a defenseman... Dion to the Oilers at the draft? If we miss the playoffs, this team is due for a MAJOR shake up, Carlyle, Phaneuf, Reimer, many heads could roll...

That was Dions worst game as a Leaf and if what I am hearing is true that he will not be meeting with the media than he has no balls. Gilmour, Clark, Sittler. Keon and on and on would be out there tonight and none of them would have played as bad in this game. The guy looked scared all night and played like a puss around the net. Sorry Dion. That was an embarrassment.
