Yohe has an update on a few things, including Hoglander rumors.

Pens have definitely explored Hoglander trade, as Yohe notes other have also reported. Rossi says his profile fits exactly what Dubas is trying to do.

However, Yohe says, Hoglander has fallen out of favor with Rick Tocchet in Vancouver. Tocchet and Sullivan are still close and talk often. Sullivan trusts Tocchet a ton. So, if Tocchet isn't a Hoglander fan, Sullivan is going be very aware of that.

Yohe says Dubas has final call on player acquisition, but Sullivan obviously has a big voice in the process.

Good return for Grier and the Sharks!
Weird. Avs only save a bit over $100k after retention on Georgiev. And with all his warts, Jarry has better career regular season gaa, sv% and qs% than Blackwood. To be clear, I'm not advocating Jarry. AT ALL. NO ONE is taking a career playoff 25 % QS goalie lol.
But it just feels the Avs are grasping at straws even as bad as Georgiev sucks ass.

• I find it very odd that Jesse Puljujarvi has been a healthy scratch so often this season. To me, he’s without question one of the Penguins’ best bottom-six wingers.
Keep this in mind, though: Puljujarvi is still less than 18 months removed from double hip surgery. From what I’ve heard, the Penguins never wanted him to play in 82 games this season, believing that giving him a rest from time to time was probably best for maximum performance.
One way or the other, the Penguins are a better team when he’s in the lineup.

Definitely wasn't something I had considered but this seems to make sense.

• There is a cautious optimism within the organization that Tristan Jarry is on the right path.
He has produced a save percentage of better than .900 in each of his past three games, which is something he did only once in his first seven starts. Earlier in Jarry’s career, there were more than a few whispers that he wasn’t the hardest worker in the world and that showing up to camp in optimal shape wasn’t always his forte.
Those days are gone. From what I’ve been told by many people close to the goaltender, work ethic is absolutely not a problem. Jarry, by all accounts, entered camp this season in outstanding condition and apparently his attitude during the dramatic time that saw him join Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for two weeks was very good.
His performance, while still not at the level we’ve seen during his All-Star seasons, is rapidly improving. Everyone in the organization is pretty pleased with him at the moment.

• Speaking of being pleased, many in the organization are blown away by how impressive Owen Pickering has been during his first eight games at the NHL level. It’s not that the coaching staff and front office didn’t think highly of the 20-year-old, because all involved certainly did.
He is a much different player now than he was even in September during training camp. Many in the organization didn’t necessarily think he was ready for full-time NHL action when he was called up to the Penguins last month. He’s starting to change the minds of many.
There is nothing flashy about Pickering’s game. From what he has displayed through eight games, there’s nothing bad about his game, either.
Also, it should be noted that this is a human being the organization absolutely loves. Yes, you hear all the time about how many good people are in hockey, and this is generally true. But Pickering is a different kind of kid. His leadership intangibles are off the charts and his personality is magnetic.

Dubas has the final call on player acquisition like a finance manager has the final say in your vehicle purchase.

Don't think there's anyone around the league at this point that still believes this team isn't the Bos..."Pittsburgh" Sullivans.

Ugh...I didn't think about the Tocchet-Sullivan connection regarding Hoglander. It makes a bit of sense. Just frustrating because I think it would be a good buy-low candidate option.

I know Rossi and Yohe both suck ass. But Yohe wrote that article lol.

Yea well Torts and Sullivan were close too and Sullivan kept running the score up on Torts in CBJ back in the day. Hopefully Sullivan has enough pride to think he can get Hoglander to work.

Assuming one of DOC/Beau is moved and Hog is acquired, Sully probably starts with:
Rak-Sid-Rust
Hog-Geno-Toma
Bunting-Lizzote-DOC/Beau
Hayes-Acciari-Pulju/Nieto

Yohe and Rossi are dog shit. They're pissing into the wind. The notion that the Pens won't acquire Hoglander because Sullivan's boy Tocchet will badmouth Hoglander to Sullivan is asinine.

I'm not saying the Pens will acquire Hoglander...a trade may or may not work. But inasmuch as Sullivan is FSG's golden boy, he won't be kiboshing trades to Dubas on the basis of what Tocchet tells him. This is conspiratorial thinking.

I do not think we are at this point of prolonged Hoglander interest if Sullivan has heard something really damning from Tocchet about the guy. And if I am wrong and that is going on, then maybe it should be listened to. Hoglander isn't such a slam dunk acquisition I'd say there's no way the skeptics could be wrong.

I’d like to give Mike the benefit of the doubt here, but we’ve seen way too much evidence in past years where younger guys with excellent pedigrees but not a ton of experience (especially those with funnynames) get the shaft in favor of prototypical Sullivan types.

Remember when Rak had to get into “game-shape” and work his way up the lineup when he first got here, even though he was already playing top 6 minutes n Anaheim? This is unfortunately who Mike Sullivan is. The stuff about resting Jesse is pure coincidence.

I can kind of buy not wanting Poolparty to play in 82 games because of his injury, but while he's playing well, let it ride. If he doesn't feel right or starts to drop off a little bit, then rest him. I haven't been paying super close attention lately, but when I was, it seemed like he got scratched because he took a penalty or something else stupid that Sullivan only holds against some players and not others.

For all his faults I don’t buy the “Sullivan doesn’t like Euro players” thing. The legit NHL players (Hagelin, Hornqvist, Petts, EK etc.) we’re mostly put in positions to succeed. The euro players that are fringe NHLers maybe not so much but none of them were/are very good anyways.

I think people would have less of a problem with it if he didn't force not very good, fringe NHLer, North Americans down our throats like Noel Acciari and Matt Nieto.
