Ok, this is weird. Looks like this forum has no Player Discussion thread about K’Andre Miller. I wonder why that is? I only searched back to the thread on Adam Clendenning, but I figured that would cover it.

Anyway, at times I’ve thought he’s a young Kjell Samuelsson type. Others maybe some kind of Pronger-lite. But maybe he’s his own thing. That goal last night was certainly unexpected and amazing. Hope there’s more that will show itself this season.

You can make a thread if you want to. I dont see either of those players until he gets more of a physical style to his game. Ive often wondered why he never used his speed more he can fly.

Fourth line was fantastic tonight. Causing turnovers and throwing their weight around. Hunt was a menace, so was Reaves.

Outside of the goal I also thought Miller did a lot of really good things out there.

Really don’t care about the points. Panarin was a train wreck out there. I’d be shocked if he wasn’t injured or there wasn’t something going on with him personally.

The Laf and Kakko reality gets more terrifying by the minute. Kakko is back to rookie year confidence. At this point with Laf I get excited if he completes a pass on his shift. Meanwhile Anton Lundell is out there looking like a 10 year veteran. I’m not even close to writing either guy off as a bust, but as each game goes by it stings worse and worse.

The “it’s the Panthers they’re really good” thing only goes so far. It’s the NHL, any team can beat any team. Some of you see this as a playoff team - we shouldn’t be flabbergasted when we beat another good team.

Kakko is going through the crisis of confidence Buch had a few years back when he couldnt buy a goal. It seemingly made PB a better player and its a good sign Gallant is letting KK work through it; i thought he was very noticeable tonight and couldve easily had 1+1. He needs to shoot quicker though, he waits way too long and takes himself out of position too much

Seriously. We still haven't had an actual homestand, but already 2 4 game road trips in Canada. Even two weeks ago we had back to back home games that were 3 days apart. Very disjointed, doesn't excuse their overall play but I'm sure its hard to get into a rhythm

Our schedule sucks all year honestly we don’t even have a legit homestand this year. Most we have are a couple 3 game blocks at home.

we’ve still got another 4 game road trip and a 5 game trip on the calendar. But not one home stand of 4 or more games.

The one positive schedule quirk from what i saw is that 10 of 14 to end the season are at home against mainly division opponents. They will have their chances to make up ground/pull away

Yes, the schedule has been ass, playing a ton on the road has sucked, and the wins are great for now, but the way they're playing just simply isn't going to be sustainable for long-term success. Gallant knows it and has been saying it after every one of these games and even referenced how they're giving up the most slot chances in the NHL tonight. It's still early and they can right the ship, but basically only getting 40% of the shots and scoring chances is going to catch up with us sooner or later.

That being said, tonight was probably the only game where we've shown the ability to counter-attack off takeaways in the neutral zone. Trouba made one hell of a play to pick off that pass and get it to Panarin on Strome's goal. Shesterkin is incredible, plain and simple.

I'm really surprised at some of your reactions. Especially people who I have known here for 12-15 years. It is almost as if you completely forgot the first 5-7 years of the Lundqvist era. This is it. Team plays like poo poo -> Lundqvist wins us a game we shouldn't win -> makes some mistakes in the process but is still otherwise a god -> we play like dookie all year -> still make the playoffs and somehow make noise -> fall short -> call for the coach to be fired in the off season -> rinse repeat.

Only watched the first period, all I'm seeing is negative here, any positives?

Weird game. Skated well with Florida the first 2 periods despite the shot difference. Giving up a goal 20 seconds into the 3rd with a 4-0 lead was unacceptable (couldve been goalie interference but it was too risky to lose the challenge). Igor let up 2 softies late but i thought they general played a good 3rd too.

Gallant and the team seem pissed at themselves, which is good to see, but fans should be happy with the win

Is Panarin a smoker or did he also have Covid like Mika ? He is terrible ....no stamina at all . Sometimes I wonder if he will even make it back to the bench . Out of shape or what ??? How many games does it take to get back into it ?

1. The first part is an undisputable fact, he is in terrible shape. He ended last season on the IR, a remote chance that could be behind it, but not something I would bet on.

2. I also wonder how long it will take for him to get going. It’s not like years have passed between his last game in 20/21 and this season.

3. Many of his turnover are classic signs of being gassed. But knock on wood, at least he isn’t getting run over. Because that is also a risk when you are that gassed.

4. Any talk about Gallant holding Panarin back is ridiculous in light of the above.

5. I mentioned it at the time, when Gallant during like the 2-3 first interviews into camp underlined that ‘everyone’ had showed up in fantastic shape, not one exception, I immediately posted about how it seemed like he was covering for someone, indirect giving a message to the players that externally he got their backs.

No matter what, I do like for sure that these things are kept in the locker room. I mean it de facto comes back to haunt the coach. Vince, Brooks and co can’t tell if a player is gassed on the ice, they will ask questions what Gallant is doing to hold back Panarin so much. But the alternative is worse. It sticks out when you throw a player under the bus like the former regime was so keen on.

They need to get some practice time in before Saturday. They must clean up the turnovers at the opponents' blue line and clean up getting two forecheckers caught deep. Opponents are easily gaining our zone predominantly because of these two deficiencies. They really should try a one man forecheck so that if the guy does not win the chase to the puck, you still have numbers on the backcheck. They're getting caught on the two-man forecheck that's one to two steps slow almost every single time and that's giving the other team easy breakouts and leaving huge swaths of neutral zone open. The horses just aren't doing things or moving fast enough for a.m aggressive forecheck system to work right now.
Really good comment.

Another two points

Maybe they'll clean it up. Maybe they won't. We'll see.

100% agree. He was very good in his last game too. This is two straight good games from him.

I don’t see it at least right now

I see a very small guy who doesn’t defend well doesn’t seem to be able to make a first pass and his main weapon being his shot he’s either missed the net or fired too high and goalies just end the play with no rebound. I’ve seen a couple nice passes in the offensive zone (Strome should have scored a one timer but he sucks) but nowhere near where I thought this kid would be right now. Not even close. He absolutely should not be playing over Jones. That is unfair and holding us back a bit too.

And I should add I think we’re doing him a disservice not letting him play big mins in the A. He clearly needs the reps.

He likely was tired of Hornqvist sharing his net duties with him.
I said it last night. Shesty had a lot of shenanigans pulled on him. We all saw it was more than one play too. Him being dog piled on, ran over and that time when he was covering the puck in a full split( it was like each ball found a new home with the ankle) and the ref refusing to kill the play.
