This 10 year rebuild talk is nonsense. I can point to a BUNCH of teams that turned it around faster than that. It took Florida 10 years because they're f***ing Florida.
The problem here is that the FO wasn't even committed to a 3 year rebuild. They literally had 2 selloffs, landed a 2OA and then instantly turned around and signed Panarin to a fat deal. Rebuilding teams do NOT do that. It was short sided and f***ing stupid. Fast forward 2 years and they've also handed out fat contracts to Kreider and Zibanejad.
Had this team actually committed to a 3-5 year plan instead of the 1 and a quarter that they did, things would look different than they do now. Yes they would have 100% been worse the last few years, but they would have given the prime minutes to their high picks instead of having them blocked by expensive players, had loads of cap space AND assets to make other moves. Seriously they have unnecessarily locked in their roster for the foreseeable future and the guys who are signed long term are NOT going to get any better, except for Fox.
This doesn't mean that they're dead in the water, but they've put them selves in a much more difficult situation than they should have and did so because this organization, no matter WHO is in charge, is obsessed with star chasing and it seems like no matter who is behind the bench they will bend the knee to said veteran players.
