The point is, they never win that game against that type of team again playing like that. 45 shots against? Insane.

You don't understanding situational hockey do you? An uber-talented team that's 10-0-1 that's losing most of the game and is losing 4-0 in the third will have a lot of shots. And Shesterkin is 8-0-0 in his career when making 40 saves. I don't know if he's undefeated when facing 40 shots, but usually those two things are one and the same.

And Shesterkin is not going to be 8-0-0 in 40 shot games for forever. We were thoroughly outplayed the whole night - they had a lot of shots and nearly 100 chances because the Rangers allowed them too. That is not a formula for long term success.

While that's true you moved the goalposts, it went from they'll never win a game like this to he won't be doing it forever. Also, the numbers look a lot worse because the Rangers were up 4-0 heading into the third and were up 4-1 with like 90 seconds to go. While the numbers still sucked, it's not like this was a tied game throughout.

24 low danger chances says a lot to me

I saw a lot of shots hit Shesterkin in the chest with no traffic.

or thrown from the wall off his blocker almost as a dump in.

after that 4-1 goal we completely melted the clock until the 2 goals let them back in

Oh I am still sticking by that if they played that same game against that same team 10 times they'd lose all 10. The only reason the score was the way it was is because our goalie played out of his mind - which is the only way this Rangers team can win games. If Igor is in any way ordinary they lose.

Yet you criticized the goalie for letting in two goals in those final 90 seconds and said that he didn't deserve the #1 star of the game because of them. You can't conveniently discount the final 90 seconds when it suits you. Just pointing out that you're moving the goalposts as well.

He played out of his mind for 58.5 minutes. So there's room for improvement and room for error if he did improve. Plus the first goal was arguably goalie interference. We have a top 5 goalie in the NHL, him playing out of his mind while it won't be an every game thing is not an aberration and 8-0 shows that he plays well with a heavy workload. Like Hank did.

Agreed. Soon he will be 9-0-0 in 40 shot games.

Thank you for bringing up Henrik - literally proves my point. These teams are exactly like the ones he used to prop up and lead…to a first round exit. Goalie can’t be the reason for every win and every loss you have, which is the story of the Rangers this season.

Exactly. You ease up for just a split second there thinking your guy is off to the races and it’s swept in underneath you. I put that 100 percent on Mika

I'm glad other people see this, that 3rd goal I was 0% surprised it went in and I simply can't blame Igor. It was a broken play.

I'm sure Igor and his competitive nature he wants all goals back, the second one is one I know for sure he really wants back because of how he waved at it. Even then it would be tricky picking that up the way Reinhart shot that in very close proximity of our defender's feet.

As much as I appreciate that Shesterkin is a huge factor in our wins, Florida being allowed to rugby-scrum him all game needs to be addressed. No, this isn't just Reaves responsibility, our D need to get stronger.

And for the love of god Lindgren, DON'T crosscheck your guy on top of your goalie whose already down. The way he came down on Igor's leg - I cringed waiting for his knee to flex the opposite way.

Also, Hornqvist needed a poke in the lips for how much he mauled Igor, or, play for us! He thrives in the dirty area at the top of the crease. (and in it lol) :D

I know we haven't played many great teams yet but with how hectic the schedule has been I'll take 7-3-3 and run.

I agree we haven't played the Bruins and the Lightning of the world, but looking at Hockey-Reference's strength of schedule (SOS), we have played the 6th hardest schedule so far. We haven't played the traditional power house teams, but teams like Oilers, Flames, and the Panthers have had really good starts. Even the Blue Jackets have started the season well.

I fully agree with the 7-3-3 being a heck of a good start all things considered.

I'm really surprised at some of your reactions. Especially people who I have known here for 12-15 years. It is almost as if you completely forgot the first 5-7 years of the Lundqvist era. This is it. Team plays like poo poo -> Lundqvist wins us a game we shouldn't win -> makes some mistakes in the process but is still otherwise a god -> we play like dookie all year -> still make the playoffs and somehow make noise -> fall short -> call for the coach to be fired in the off season -> rinse repeat.

Makes me think of that famous quote about the definition of insanity. are the Rangers driving us insane?

I was looking for "Player Discussion". He's not really a "prospect" anymore.

Following the logic that Lundkvist and Schneider are "Players"... but thanks anyway.
Fair enough. Go ahead and make new one. Or ask the mods to change the header. I’m sure it’s just that we all got comfortable chatting in the prospect thread. It didn’t dawn on anyone to adjust the tag. Anyhow I think it’s a good topic. Miller’s development is interesting, for sure.

I honestly think Igor lost focus at the end on the play where he was getting whacked at the side of the net with no whistle, you could see him get up and say something to the refs. He was fantastic for 58 minutes but the two late goals were mostly on him. The refs made it clear the Panthers could straight up body check him all game and, frankly, it was disappointing no one buried Hornqvist (aside from Fox early in the game).
The officiating was bizarre. We all know the refs tilt the ice toward the trailing team. But that was insane. How about the penalty against Rooney? That was an absolute joke. And as you said, Shesterkin was absolutely abused. We need to protect him. He’s our most valuable player.

Great point. Then both Bread and Zib have to bust it back because there is ANOTHER odd man advantage because of "Poor puck management".
Every Florida player is committed to getting back hard on defense. That’s what we need more than anything else. Mistakes happen. Chances will be taken. That’s all mitigated by hustling back hard in a predictable manner. Florida go full speed in both directions.

The timing of everything in that game was weird too. In a normal circumstance, the first FLA goal is challenged and most likely (but who knows) taken off the board. The issue was because it was so early in the period, the risk of losing the challenge and putting Florida on the powerplay was too high.

As for Hornqvist, they need to have a response next time they play the Panthers. I understand not wanting to take score settling penalties late in an important early season game like this, but someone need to put a stick in his teeth next time they play. The guy has been doing this shit to the Rangers for years and as a fan I'm sick of it.

On a similar note, Subban & Reaves will meet again this Sunday at MSG

You can make a thread if you want to. I dont see either of those players until he gets more of a physical style to his game. Ive often wondered why he never used his speed more he can fly.
I think he’s trying to keep his game very simple. And the best parts of Miller’s game are the “options”. He’s not really good at being a stay-at-home defender. But he can move and I think he has pretty decent instincts. (Unlike Brady Skjei, for example).
It’s a bit tough to categorize him though. I personally want him playing like almost an “attacking defense”. Using his speed and range to break up attacks and maintain possession in the attacking zone. But I don’t see him being very good in his own end. At least not in terms of moving opponents physically. His center of gravity is too high for that.
I definitely agree he can use his speed more. But I also appreciate why he has been reserved so far.

As for Subban, I kind of think the thing with Reaves was just bad luck. I think he tried to use his leg to know Reaves off balance and Reaves landed in a rut or something. Subban is cheesy for sure. He thinks he’s being clever but everyone sees him with the trips and the theatrics. But *usually* it’s not dangerous. This year he has just been sloppy.

We're not getting any breaks until the Olympics. It's borderline absurd. They should cut the season down if they want to do the olympics or lengthen the season. Cramming everything in is great for us but horrible for the players.

Is everyone else's schedule this bad? We get a few days off here, then go 6 games in 9 days. How can you have good hard practices?

If these guys keep moving the goalposts KK is never going to score again !!!!
