I think he’s trying to keep his game very simple. And the best parts of Miller’s game are the “options”. He’s not really good at being a stay-at-home defender. But he can move and I think he has pretty decent instincts. (Unlike Brady Skjei, for example).
It’s a bit tough to categorize him though. I personally want him playing like almost an “attacking defense”. Using his speed and range to break up attacks and maintain possession in the attacking zone. But I don’t see him being very good in his own end. At least not in terms of moving opponents physically. His center of gravity is too high for that.
I definitely agree he can use his speed more. But I also appreciate why he has been reserved so far.

I just don't think he's an aggressive guy to be honest, i don't think he's holding back in that regard i just dont think its in him. I had a coach tell me before that he'd rather tame a tiger than put stripes on a house cat because at the end of the day he's still a cat. Its just who Miller is imo

It might be wise to focus on allowing fewer shots against.

Or protecting our friggin goalie like all the other teams do. That was an embarrassing performance letting the panthers run ram shod over Igor. Where is all this grit we supposedly have in lieu of skill players. Igor needs to start watching billy smith tapes and taking care of it himself if his teammates all turn the other cheek

Oh I am still sticking by that if they played that same game against that same team 10 times they'd lose all 10. The only reason the score was the way it was is because our goalie played out of his mind - which is the only way this Rangers team can win games. If Igor is in any way ordinary they lose.
The goalie being great allows the team to play more aggressively. And that leads to more chances against. As well as more chances for. It’s great having a difference-maker in nets, is how I look at it.

Yeah. Totally surprising given the focus on team toughness. I would have no problem with seeing them take a penalty defending him. Someone should have gone after Hornqvist.

We did out hit them pretty significantly, though.

There is always a time and place.

A close game that you have the lead in, you take a number and circle back another game.

Been that way for 100 years

Couldn't disagree more. These things have historically been taken care of within minutes, if not immediately.

There was an uproar in these boards last season when nothing was done in that game.

Those same fans told us all that with Reaves it would never happen, again, but it did.

Your consistency with this theme is rivaled only by @EdJovanovski and his mancrushes :)

Others here took every opportunity to bash Quinn and explained that with a real coach, all would be different. They're still bashing Quinn, just for the hell of it.

It's not different.

The prevailing wisdom has turned out to be bullshit, like it usually does.

As for Subban, I kind of think the thing with Reaves was just bad luck. I think he tried to use his leg to know Reaves off balance and Reaves landed in a rut or something. Subban is cheesy for sure. He thinks he’s being clever but everyone sees him with the trips and the theatrics. But *usually* it’s not dangerous. This year he has just been sloppy.

To be totally honest - I've called him PK Slewban since not long after coming into the league. (I see alot of him living Canada lol) He's always used it, just has times more obvious than others.

He played out of his mind for 58.5 minutes. So there's room for improvement and room for error if he did improve. Plus the first goal was arguably goalie interference. We have a top 5 goalie in the NHL, him playing out of his mind while it won't be an every game thing is not an aberration and 8-0 shows that he plays well with a heavy workload. Like Hank did.

That's the thing about being a goalie, any lapse and it has a high potential to result in a goal horn - every player has shifts that didn't go their way but they get to go back to the bench and hide for a bit and most times it doesn't show on the scoreboard lol

Quite honestly when I play, for shots give me 35+ all day over 25 or less. I'm not surprised with Igor striving with a heavy workload and I truly hope before each game he plays he gets minimum 35. (maybe I own some sort of voodoo doll lol) He just strikes me as someone who loves to be engaged for an extended duration.

Igor has seemingly eliminated his frequent Sega Genesis NHL 94 slide past the posts/insanely over-commit - I really can't get on him for anything in this win. The team busted out of there with 2 points being chauffeured in the Igor limo.

Florida is the best team in the league. It wasn’t pretty but who cares? We gave them their first regulation loss of the season.

Igor spotted them two softies late to make it interesting.
Those aren't anybody's mother's Panthers, any longer. They're going to be a force to be reckoned with, for years to come. I watched them often for many years now (living here in South Florida) It's a shame that they get no support, relatively speaking.

Panthers org is an interesting case. Drafted their now big three in Huberdeau (3rd OA, 2011), Barkov (2nd OA, 2013), and Ekblad (1st OA, 2014) and really took till the '20-'21 for it to really come together as a team.

He's done it 3 or 4 times this ssn alone

that's how long it takes though for most contenders.

I know people think I had it in for Hank I just can't stand that shit that Igor pulled on that third goal after being Jesus the entire game. I just don't understand WTF was he thinking.
He was probably thinking "WTF, Zibanejad, next time you see a loose puck don't pretend nobody is going to go battle you for it".

I used to get lower bowl tickets for $30 back when it was the National Car Rental Center or Office Depot Center. Don’t remember ever going to a game that had more Panthers fans than opposing fans. You mean no one wants to drive an hour into the Everglades to see a shit team? Stop the madness!

This 10 year rebuild talk is nonsense. I can point to a BUNCH of teams that turned it around faster than that. It took Florida 10 years because they're f***ing Florida.

The problem here is that the FO wasn't even committed to a 3 year rebuild. They literally had 2 selloffs, landed a 2OA and then instantly turned around and signed Panarin to a fat deal. Rebuilding teams do NOT do that. It was short sided and f***ing stupid. Fast forward 2 years and they've also handed out fat contracts to Kreider and Zibanejad.

Had this team actually committed to a 3-5 year plan instead of the 1 and a quarter that they did, things would look different than they do now. Yes they would have 100% been worse the last few years, but they would have given the prime minutes to their high picks instead of having them blocked by expensive players, had loads of cap space AND assets to make other moves. Seriously they have unnecessarily locked in their roster for the foreseeable future and the guys who are signed long term are NOT going to get any better, except for Fox.

This doesn't mean that they're dead in the water, but they've put them selves in a much more difficult situation than they should have and did so because this organization, no matter WHO is in charge, is obsessed with star chasing and it seems like no matter who is behind the bench they will bend the knee to said veteran players.

There are a few organizations that have done some major 180s lately. They've been bold and aggressive, made moves that drew a ton of skepticism (or didn't make moves), but they all clearly had a vision of what they're looking to be as a team.

I was optimistic when much of what was said by Drury centered around clarifying roles, organizing the pieces into a coherent whole, having an identity. I was optimistic that Gallant, based especially on his time in Vegas would help discover that. It took some balls to put William Karlsson as your top line center when his career high was like 25 points at that point.

I'm not totally giving up. Some of me thinks that things might just have to get worse before they get better. Team's have definitely had to hit big blocks before they find the courage to break the mold. Calgary is a great example for our team, IMO.

Gallant has been disappointing though. Same old pairings, same old 18 skaters all looking like they don't know what's supposed to happen ever at any place on the ice. Maybe not the fourth line, but what does that get you?

Personally, after watching a legend in Henrik Lundqvist be sat for three months so that Georgiev could get some starts, thrown to the wolves in the play-in, and then bought out... all of this feels deserved. Like a curse.
