Can someone else remind me of a time that a team that has an internal cap went out and got a $3.6 million goalie for their AHL team? This isn't the 90's Rangers or Red Wings with unlimited bank roll.

Move off 3.6. That is not how much he is actually owed.

Also--this could be a cap floor thing if the Ducks are planning to make some moves

I think Zegras is in the block

If Kane refuses to sit out the rest of the year, send him home and deal with him in the offseason

The PR nightmare from that would be fun as it unfolds

What is the playoff format in the AHL anyway? The top 7 in the Pacific make it? Because Anaheim's AHL team is like 7 points out of a playoff spot.

Saw goalie trade after work, gleefully moved to HF because Gibson is so getting trading, and saw this.........

Ya right. The Ole' 3.5 million backup for the AHL playoffs, after scratching Gibson. Would Servalli be running cover for Anaheim or Carolina? feels like it's finally happening gif

I bet there is a multiple scenario's worked out, plan A Oilers/Carolina make a second trade to get cap space, and plan B taking on salary, which is why the Gibson part is delayed. Gibson trade has to be done in principle, allowing the Ducks to move on Husso. He has term! if teams wanted super expensive AHL goalies with term we could have traded Campbell lol. There is way better AHL options for ~800k

Alex Tuch would be dynamite in our top 6.

Bowen Byram would have the same impact from the backend

Vejmelka or Binnington (pipe dream) would be ideal for a cup run.

These are the type of players required to move the needle forward.

I have a horrible feeling management has already decided to sacrifice our postseason to address the goaltending in the summer.
This has been the story every year since McDavid became an Oiler. Remember Bob literally saying “this will be the most important offseason ever” every freaking year. He eventually stopped 2 summers ago because fans were sick of hearing it

It's definitely true that they won't owe 3.6 million. It's about 1 million. And it's not crazy that they'd like a ringer to help their AHL team's playoff run to boost their prospects. It definitely feels like something for a trade though. If it's just for the AHL then they could even make that move after the deadline.

Anaheim is actually on the hook for 1.3 million for Husso for a few months. I believe just because a player is even in the AHL doesn't impact the fact that they still get their full NHL salary, it's just calculated on the cap differently but that's it. As far I know anyway.

this place will melt down if the Oilers don't get a goalie lol

I'm here for it

No one cares that specifically about the goalie position. This is all about McDavid and Draisaitl, they have little chance of winning a Cup with this present tandem and that's what people actually care about. I couldn't give a shit if the goalie was Lappo Kappo from Finland.

I don't think it's a given McDavid signs an extension here automatically this summer at all. If this team hasn't won one in 10 years, why should he feel like it's a given they will win one in the future? He has to do what's best for him, he's accomplished everything he was hyped to be better than Crosby and he has lived up to that billing. It's not his duty to suffer through bad management forever.

if the new goalie tandem fail to deliver anything less than a Cup, it means the tandem of Skinner/Pickard were more successful than any goalie here since Roloson/Markkanen

no pressure

The other major problem the Oilers have is guys like Hyman and Ekholm are getting to the age where a decline in their play is natural.

They don't have all the time in the world just because McDavid is 27. Who in the pipeline is replacing Ekholm and Hyman? Nobody.

It's now or never.

I don't think McDavid signs an extension this summer unless they bare minimum make the Finals again, and even that will be bitterly disappointing if they don't win it this time. A round 2 or round 3 exit isn't gonna cut it.

He owes it to himself to keep his options open if this team is not going to put a no brainer Cup winner around him. And Florida has an awful lot of cap room coming up in his UFA year too so do many other attractive options.

The Oilers want to f*** around and not take this seriously, they are going find out the meaning of play stupid games, win stupid prizes the hard way.

Just dumping a 3.6M salary for nothing. I wish the oilers could do that

the Oilers were first in the division 2 games ago and 3rd in the entire league....after making the Finals last year losing Game 7

and now all of the sudden he's gonna bail after losing 3 straight?

They need to win it all this year or at least be in the Finals and I doubt Skinner is up for it. So that either changes or welp.

Especially after he has tasted that win and had his golden goal moment for Team Canada, going from that high to a let down ending this season wouldn't be ... good.

I would not expect him to be in any rush to sign an extension here if the poorly built roster here can't get the job done.

There's literally pretty much nothing else for Connor to win now except a Cup and if they can't do it this year, you have to ask if it's ever gonna happen here. Like Hyman is gonna be 33? Ekholm 35? Where is the improvement supposed to come from?

If this org is not serious about this trade deadline, honestly they really don't deserve a Cup anyway. At some point you gotta show you want it and are willing to make things happen to get there.
