I think this move would be a mistake for the Canes. He’s a good player, but the cost for a rental of him is too much. And I have no wish to pay him anything close to what he’s asking for his next contract.I wonder if the Canes still have interest. Unlike a lot of Canes’ fans, I haven’t been too impressed with Ethan Bear. Klingberg, along with Pesce and DeAngelo, really would shore up that right side.
With Klingberg reportedly seeking $8M a season on his next deal, it’d be likely he’d be a rental only. If CAR wouldn’t give 28yr old Hamilton $8M, I don’t see them giving 29yr old Klingberg that either. It’ll be interesting to see if the Canes go against their “no rental” stance this year since with the excellent position they’re in.
The Canes have the right sort of ammo in terms of quality prospects that they could use to really beef up their team for a cup run. Question is, will they finally be willing to spend that prospect currency for short-term gain only.
Habs have no interest in him at all.I have a sinking feeling that Montreal will go after him in FA.

So, of course, it will happen.

Only if we can trade Petry first. He said as a FA and the Habs should have interest in him as a FA.
why? theyre rebuilding, and he'd cost a lot as a UFA.... he'll be on the decline by the time they can maybe competeHe said as a FA and the Habs should have interest in him as a FA.

Ideally we tank again next year. At that point we should have enough quality and quantity of young player . Klingberg wouldn't help us to finish at the bottom of the standings...Not to derail this thread, but it depends on how the deadline and draft go.
If the Habs win some games and drop some spots I wouldn't go after him.
Klingberg is a very good puck moving d.
The way the Habs work he won't sign here unless he gets 10 mill a year anyways, so for, or against him, we're not getting him.
depends who they get.... Wright + Bedard/Michkov, sure. if its Savoie/Cooley + not Bedard/Michkov they may need to tank more.Ideally we tank again next year. This rumor really doesn’t make sense. Since when do players on expiring deals request trades? They just simply don’t re-sign. It’s not like Dallas is a bottom feeder.
Something doesn’t seem right about the rumor unless it’s a negotiation tactic by the agent and Pagnotta is his buddy.
All that said, if for whatever reason this is actually somehow true, I’d love to find a way to get Nick Robertson and some picks out of it. But if you trade Klingberg, there’s no reason to keep Pavelski or Radulov, so that’s even more bizarre.
Dear God, no.He’s the perfect rental for the Canes. I’d do something like this
Bear + Suzuki/Bokk + 2023 1st
for
Klingberg (retained to make cap work)
Maybe Boston could do a trade surrounding DeBrusk and Klingberg. I see it working out both ways.
Boston:
Klingberg
Dallas:
1st 2022
Cond. 2nd 2023
Jake DeBrusk
Jake Senyshyn
