I wonder if the Canes still have interest. Unlike a lot of Canes’ fans, I haven’t been too impressed with Ethan Bear. Klingberg, along with Pesce and DeAngelo, really would shore up that right side.

With Klingberg reportedly seeking $8M a season on his next deal, it’d be likely he’d be a rental only. If CAR wouldn’t give 28yr old Hamilton $8M, I don’t see them giving 29yr old Klingberg that either. It’ll be interesting to see if the Canes go against their “no rental” stance this year since with the excellent position they’re in.

The Canes have the right sort of ammo in terms of quality prospects that they could use to really beef up their team for a cup run. Question is, will they finally be willing to spend that prospect currency for short-term gain only.

I think this move would be a mistake for the Canes. He’s a good player, but the cost for a rental of him is too much. And I have no wish to pay him anything close to what he’s asking for his next contract.

So, of course, it will happen.

I agree. I’d rather they not pay the price for what will surely be a rental. I really like the makeup of the Canes D at the moment, even if I’ve been unimpressed with Bear. Having him on the 3rd pairing is quite a luxury. Personally, I hope the Canes look to keep their D in tact and look to add another forward and maybe a depth D like Hamonic for a playoff push.

Habs have no interest in him at all.

In a situation where Dallas would want to still be competitive this year and next 2-3 years, because let's face it, the core of Heiskanen, Seguin, Benn, Hintz, Robertson and Lindell are still signed for multiple years, i wonder if a deal around Klingberg and Petry could make sense for both clubs.

why? theyre rebuilding, and he'd cost a lot as a UFA.... he'll be on the decline by the time they can maybe compete

Not to derail this thread, but it depends on how the deadline and draft go.

If the Habs win some games and drop some spots I wouldn't go after him.

Klingberg is a very good puck moving d.

The way the Habs work he won't sign here unless he gets 10 mill a year anyways, so for, or against him, we're not getting him.

I have always been a big Klingberg fan. He will be a prime rental target this spring (if Dallas is out of the race). Long term I hate the “pay me now” big contracts for 30 year olds. Dallas got his best years on the cheap they would be wise to turn over a new Leaf and sell high for once.

5 year term on his next contract would be interesting but no thanks to 7 or 8.

Klingberg + Holtby

for

Robertson + Holl + Mrazek + 2nd (becomes first if Toronto makes semi finals/resigns Klingberg )

If Dallas is on the outside looking in come tdl

He’s the perfect rental for the Canes. I’d do something like this

Bear + Suzuki/Bokk + 2023 1st

for

Klingberg (retained to make cap work)

Ideally we tank again next year. At that point we should have enough quality and quantity of young player . Klingberg wouldn't help us to finish at the bottom of the standings...

depends who they get.... Wright + Bedard/Michkov, sure. if its Savoie/Cooley + not Bedard/Michkov they may need to tank more.

I like their young pieces in Suzuki, Caufield, ROmanov, Guhle, but they need that elite 1C and franchise Dman. They need to do everything and anything to get rid of Price, Gallagher, Petry, Toffoli, etc

This rumor really doesn’t make sense. Since when do players on expiring deals request trades? They just simply don’t re-sign. It’s not like Dallas is a bottom feeder.

Something doesn’t seem right about the rumor unless it’s a negotiation tactic by the agent and Pagnotta is his buddy.

All that said, if for whatever reason this is actually somehow true, I’d love to find a way to get Nick Robertson and some picks out of it. But if you trade Klingberg, there’s no reason to keep Pavelski or Radulov, so that’s even more bizarre.

When they don't think their team is going to make playoffs.

Its a nice thread to see the normal HFBoards to resume: Leafs fans offering scraps.

Yeah I know this is only a discussion board but seriously.. those packages are mostly awful.

Maybe Boston could do a trade surrounding DeBrusk and Klingberg. I see it working out both ways.

Boston:
Klingberg

Dallas:
1st 2022
Cond. 2nd 2023
Jake DeBrusk
Jake Senyshyn
