Like always, a bunch of people said he’s washed and done, of course Ovie bounces back immediatelyFirst 3 games he looked like utter poop. Worst of his career.
Last 3 games - he's playing well. His shot doesn't look great but he's passing the puck nicely. Also been good on the forecheck and along the boards.
He also needs to lose 10 pounds or so, he was incredibly out of shape at the end of the off season based on his pictures and videosHe looked like a dead fish to start the season, but he’s really been turning it around these past few games. He won’t be the explosive player he once was, he just can’t be it, but he’s going to get his goals, I think enough to tee himself up to likely push for the record next season. I think at this point it takes him a bit to get his legs going in the regular season. He’s like an old mower, takes a bit longer to get the engine running these days, but the grass will be cut.
Is this the coldest start to a season in his career so far when it comes to goal scoring? He has 1 non empty net goal in his first 8 games (and yes, empty net goals are obviously legitimate goals too, but for the purposes of evaluating a player’s short term puck luck, I disregard them).
Either way, he’s getting his chances and his shot production is still high, so the goals will come. I’d be pretty surprised if he didn’t have at least 40 goals by the end of the season, and wouldn’t be shocked if he hit 50.
Longer. You get the feeling that some fans out there clearly don't want Ovie breaking 894.
How happy some of them were after his two straight games without a shot was evidence of that.
That same group was predicting his demise like 7-8 years ago.
All of Ovechkin's assists this season are primary assists, btw.
He is currently tied for the league lead in primary assists at ES.
Looks like OV forgot he is after Gretzky's goals record and is going for the assists record instead
