I am going to ask this instead of ranting, but do we have any coaches on this team who understand defence, accountability, and face-offs? Has DC figured out his lines yet? Also will people now agree that the way they are playing, they are going to be hardpressed not to trade
Mews
Pinelli
Foster.
It just makes sense if we can get a good return that we would not keep any of these guys. Maybe try for a real center or 2 LOL
We are getting lots of shots on net but are losing in all the important areas.
I think what we are seeing now is how good of a coach DC really is. He has this team very well prepared. Even without the horses, the games are generally close and the 67S continually outshoot their opponents often by a wide margin. Theya re working for chances but they don’t have the guns up front to take advantage of the chances. It is what it is.
With the exception of a small handful of players that have requested a trade, the 67’s haven’t made a seller move in close to 7 years. I think their last pure seller trade was Peter Stratis to Sudbury at the deadline in 2018. Since then, they have either been forced ot make a move because of numbers or the player requested a trade.
Sept 2018 - Carter Robertson was traded preseason because of the surplus of D-Men.
Sept 2019 - Lucas Peric was traded preseason because of the surplus of OAs
June 2019 - Matt Maggio trade at request
Jan 2022 - Sirrizotti traded because of request
Sept 2022 - Sawyer and Gill-Shane trade because of numbers
Jan 2024 - Ewles traded because of numbers
Sept 2023 - Beck traded on request
July 2024 - Uronen traded because of numbers
August 2024 - Gardiner traded because of request
Plus two draft defected players
These are the most meaningful deals where Ottawa received a meaningful return. There were a few more player moves but the payers were either marginal players or the return was not meaningful. You will notice that only Sirizzotti and Ewles were traded outside the offseason.
Ottawa has participated in Four seasons since 2019 as buyers. Maybe not as heavily as I would have preferred, but they acquired DiPietro, Maksimovich, Chiodo, Gareffa, Groulx, Morrison, Mintyukov, Maillet, Kressler, and Mayer. They traded:
2nd’s x14
3rd’s x16
4th’s x4
5th x2
Afanaseyev
I think when you consider how many draft pick assets they have traded four of the last five seasons, I think overall the team is doing fairly well. They still have a relatively decent picks cabinet. They have a relatively competitive team if not one that is actually winning.
They are likely headed for their first sell off season since they traded away Peter Stratis in January 2018. I am not overly disappointed overall. I think they could have gone a little heavier in one season and not had to trad win back to back seasons but it is what it is.
