I'm just here to say that the red Killer Puck jerseys they are rolling out today are straight 🔥. Might consider getting one of those!

Are they the old school ones from 1999? Or, did they change that design?

Looks like the original red version of the Killer Puck jersey to me!

Sweet. I used to have a bunch of game worn jerseys but I sold most of them. I was never able to get hands on the red one for a player i wanted. I had a few of the white ones. I sold almost all of them to a collector though. I kept a few of the more sentimental ones. The full 1999 Memorial Cup team signed Lance Galbraith Game Worn Rookie jersey is the one I would never part with.

Pinelli returns but is on the third line. Perrier is active and listed as centre for the fourth line. Mac starts. No Korbler or Kelly still.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: we took a dumb penalty and couldn’t kill it off. Mews had been playing without a stick and when he got back to the bench and someone jumped on for him, he just stood there watching the play until they called us for too many men. 1-0 Barrie.

That’s an old one. Heard it before…..

Eshkawkogan with his first goal. Finally got one! Good for him. He deserves it.

High event period ends 4-3 Barrie. Entertaining game, Ottawa is doing lots of the good things they’ve done this year and is also some of the frustrating things giving up odd man rushes. Other than Mews space cadet moment we’ve avoided putting our terrible PK out there.

For those following Perrier’s debut, my amateur count has him at 2 shifts through 2 periods. I have Amidovski at just 1…

🤷🏻
The Yanni - Whitehead - Pinelli experiment seemed to last two periods. They had Pinelli back with Foster and Ekberg for the third. Not much else to say about this one. The game could have gone either way but those games seem to never land where we’d like right now.

Yeah but as you mentioned above they did a lot of good things. It's a young team but as long as they progress. First period was boring but the rest was entertaining.

On another note Killer was looking very spiffy! Fun to ses Smith, Campbell, Pang etc. Sirman and Stoney were taking pictures with the old guys...cool.

Question. What would have been the likely outcome of that game had Gardiner been in our lineup instead of theirs?

I think we need to keep some perspective. Losing Gardiner was a big blow to the team and should have been the lightbulb turning on that this team is in need of a light retool.

The other question is, and I’ve already asked this one before, if the 67’s plan to bring back Stonehouse AND they knew he’d return regardless, why would they give Perrier his #17? It seems really odd to me. I had mentioned that a while back when they released the initial roster and we saw the official jersey numbers. It led me to believe that if Stonehouse were returned, he would be traded immediately. However, I would not have expected him to be skating with Ottawa under those circumstances. I’d have thought he’d either be in Edmonton or closer to home skating with a tier II team.

I have no problem with the Gardiner trade...the problem is what they've done with it. They traded Gardiner to move Foster to Center...which is just stupid. If they're not willing to play Ekberg and Amidovski at Center anyway then they should have kept Gardiner at least for the time being. They should be playing kids at Center or this trade doesn't make any sense. Ekberg is fine on the wing but he'd be much more influential, have much more of an impact playing Center. And by playing Center I don't mean 4C.

I was wondering about this again today when I saw Perrier was still #17. Feels like we are missing something here.

They traded Gardiner because he requested a trade, preferably back home (Barrie).

Anything that has happened after has been a result of not having natural centres and them trying to find the right combo.

I’m not a fan of Foster at centre but this year it hasn’t really hurt him. I guess it is as good as any other Plan B option.

The question I posed about Gardiner was more about the fact that had he been in there Ottawa lineup, maybe this team (with him) would have been better than I anticipated? Then again, Ottawa always looks good in the first half. DC always has them well prepared to start the season while many other teams look like they are still scrambling. So, hard to tell.

The Petes are as bad as expected, Niagara better than anticipated, and the ‘67s would be better with Gardiner, for sure.
But I’m not sure if there is any indication of Ottawa, NB, and Sudbury being better or worse than expected. Sudbury and NB have had good starts with significant omissions but both already played the Petes twice. Sudbury has played SSM twice.
I don’t think the W% of Niagara holds up, but the team itself will only get better.

Ottawa has had a tough schedule to start when you consider the strength of Niagara in the early going of the season. So, it is sort of tough to tell where Ottawa really is right now, let alone where they’d be if Gardiner were to have not requested a trade. On top of that, their PK has been awful. If they were 19th on the PK instead of a dismal distant 20th, they’d likely have at least 3 more points in the standings. The PK has slaughtered them in the early going.

I like what I have seen from Niagara. They play a lot like Ottawa. They play a very fast paced game with strong puck movement on the breakout. I think we are all waiting on DD to make the team “Better.” The young guys are really friggin’ good. Czata is starting to turn it on. Of course Roobroeck is doing very well. Wasilyn is already impactful. Of course, He is always good. Crete has been fantastic. I thought Boyd was going to take Crete with the 21st pick but he passed on him to take Eshkawkogan which was also a very good pick. I really like the Niagara youth. They are impactful and will remain impactful the remainder of the season. The defence additions have worked well too.

The additions to Niagara D were brilliant, really. The picks for the upside of Virgilio was worth the risk. The perceived value of VanVliet went down in Sudbury, he was a bargain. And I think every GM should have learned a lesson in the Barrie-Flint-Niagara trade-off; if bringing in a third team team to facilitate a deal, do not invite a team from the same division as the team you are trading with. Barrie and Niagara knew what they were getting and giving while Flint did not.
