Don't spend a dime. Sink or swim with the Ontario contingent and miss the playoffs if that's how it shakes out.

See how the expansion draft unfolds. Keep dry powder to sign Toffoli and have cap space to make a signing/trade next summer.

Find out what they have on the farm before tossing "Lucic's Money" at someone else this season.

All these other names being tossed around at pretty much the same cost as Lucic doesn't make sense. Kings are unable to play in the UFA market for anyone of consequence, just like when they couldn't get Sekera done and had to give up a ton of assets so they could get Lucic at 50% retained.

DL needs to acquire some more assets (picks) by trimming some fat as opposed to spending precious cap space or moving someone like Pearson for defense.

What a laughable Top 6 as the team currently stands. No worries though as the Bottom 6 is well known for secondary scoring capabilities hahaha.

well brown will be given every opportunity for redemption then as he should be getting 2nd line minutes or least be able to push for 2nd line minutes.

I am dissapointed but who knows, maybe this turns out like Ryan Smyth demanding a trade. I was pissed at the time, was even more pissed that the return was a ****y Brule, and then furious about the injury **** and having to take Fraser. Turns out Fraser was a key 4th line center on the way to the cup, and the cap space saved on Smyth was used on Carter.

DL giving teams permission to talk to Lucic now before Saturday is interesting.

Him doing right by the player? Him trying to prove to player he will not get more?

Same. Its Lombardi acknowledging how awful our defense is. I fully expect him to address the D now that Lucic is walking. I'm slightly relieved, he impressed in the regular season and **** the bed in the playoffs (like most of the team). I'm glad we don't have to shell out big bucks and long term for LWer that's already peaked. Plus, we were still a playoff team without him.

I dont even know if the defense is fixable in one season. not saying its terrible, because its been worse, but sometimes the right 'fix' just isnt in the cards (weak UFA selection/lack of assets needed to make acquisitions/etc). Id rather Dean be patient and the Kings have another mediocre year as opposed to him going all in and striking out like he did with Sekera. this summer will certainly be an interesting one for the Kings org. we'll see if ol Deaner still has the juice

Look how well the Sharks did by just signing Martin. It made their D a lot deeper. I'm hoping we can pull a similar deal.

I really hate to be the "I told you so" but that trade was ******** the second it was announced.
A) We didn't fix the giant hole that is the 2nd pairing defense or
B) Lost 13overall, Jones and Miller
C) Have nothing to show for this trade after 1 year!!!

The only thing good out of this is that there will be no more Lucic failed clears and minor penalties.

I'd be on board with this. Hang on to what you have, re-sign Toffoli, collect assets and build around the young guys who will fit into the core along with Kopitar, Doughty, Quick, Carter, Muzzin, Toffoli and Pearson.

I don't want to see this team handcuffed by another bad contract and with the looming expansion draft, better not to waste away any assets for some temporary fill-ins.

I do expect them to acquire some players via free agency or trade, but enough of sacrificing the future for a quick fix. The trades for Carter and Gaborik were unlike the Sekera and Lucic trades. Carter for Johnson was a straight up hockey trade, and nothing significant was lost in the Gaborik trade.

Those trades were made at the right time and with teams that had singular issues, which was in the goal scoring department. Now there is a multitude of holes the team has to fill, and bringing in rentals isn't going to solve them.

haha my initial response, "I don't like this. One year of Lucic for the 13 OA + jones + something else.
That third plus better be richards"

now I am saying how the deal was worth it haha

That's what I'm thinking. He probably wants Lucic to look around to see what he can get and perhaps expects Lucic's camp to get back to him? That would be the only logical reason as to why Dean won't trade his UFA rights.

I have a strong feeling he will go to Anaheim. They want a LW...don't care about their internal cap as they may sweeten a deal to move the uglier contracts on their blue line.

I mean, you like SoCal and want to stay there? How about 6x6 from Anaheim instead of 6x3 or whatever DL was offering? They've also won a lot more playoff games than the Kings the last two seasons.

This works two folds. It allows the player to gauge an idea of what he would get on an open market. Allows teams to do due diligence. If they receive an offer to their liking, it allows LA to work a deal with that team to trade his rights. Similar to what Gologoski did in Arizona.

Of course, there is the chance that team trades for his rights and he doesn't sign. Always a risk. For instance, if Yandle doesn't sign with Florida, it backfires on them since they gave up picks to the Rangers.

They can't afford him, not a cap team.

I think you are right here. The Kings want him but can't afford to miss out on plan B or C until they know for sure he won't sign with them.

I don't see room for him there. The internal cap isn't something they'll ignore easily, they have 57.3 mil already tied up with 7 skaters left. Lucic at 6 million gives them 10 mil in total cap space to sign 1 goalie, 1 dman, and 5 forwards, including Lindholm, Pirri, and Rakell as RFAs, which would be around 10 mil conservatively. The cap casualties would be Fowler and Cogliano or Stoner I guess, saving 7 mil but still putting them too close to the cap and past the internal one

If he wants to win, he'll probably come back, if he wants money he'll be in EDM

This thread is great. I REALLY hated this trade when it happened, and I got a lot **** for it too.

We knew going in that both Sekera and Lucic wanted 5-6 mill and they wanted TERM. Don't know how we could think we could talk them out of term of at least 5 years.

Wasn't DL prepared to give Sekera close to what he got in Edmonton just without the NMC? I think the hold up was the Richards situation

Hearing some interesting things out of Kings land this morning, including somewhat shocking news - Dwight King likely to be traded at Draft.
