Offseason GDT III

On Lucic, hearing the issue was term not price for extension. Player wanted max deal for security, Kings only willing to go 4 years.

King moving would be a shock and a symbol taht we're moving to a different era. The guy is Kings hockey , like Kopitar. All possession, smart, big, hard to move.

I imagine he's the best value to get picks but wow, crazy.

He'd be the first guy that played a significant role from either Cup team that Lombardi traded.
 
DL thought he could fit Sekera and then Lucic because he banked on the team performing well, like with Gaborik.

New guys ain't giving up **** when they come in and miss the playoffs or only win one playoff game. Toss in the CA cost of living and taxes and what the **** are we talking about here? I'd go for the longest and most lucrative contract as well when in my late 20s.

It's wasn't the salary that prevented this is was term.
So all everything mentioned had no baring here.
He wants double the term the team was offering by the rumor here.
 
I wasn't optimistic that King would be made available, but given his utility and history with the team, I don't think he'll be moved if the picks coming back aren't enough to have a high probability of paying off, one way or another. He's a solid asset to have on a team as well as being a good guy and a team player to the core.

I doubt it is any better in Vancouver...although getting paid in USD and having expenses in CDN would help that

Yes, it does.

Team wins and he gives up the security of the longer-term deal to stay in LA. Team crashes and burns in the playoffs (or in Sekera's case misses it completely) and now that extra security trumps wanting to stay in LA.

The money discussion matters because two extra years at the same price would equal even more net pay than just saying "two more years at $6MM equals $12MM higher offer", depending on that locations tax rate of course.

DL brought in Gaborik with an expiring contract but was able to get a discount because of the results. He went back to the well twice with that move and got burned both times.

That's part of the hubris that has killed this team since 2014. DL believed guys would want to stay here and be part of this culture: two ****** seasons will change that for those players that weren't a part of 2012-14.

There is no hometown discount when it isn't really your hometown.

I'm actually calling that deal by Chiarelli right now.

Missing from F - Mersch & Dowd

That's a playoff team at least IMO

I am sure most free agents will be given a two year NMC as expansion protection.
