I thought he should have been shopped to Edmonton last November when they appeared desperate to make the playoffs. Could we have gotten Puuijarvi or Yamamoto at that time? Maybe their 1st? Maybe I'm nuts.
How do you know he wasn't and Edm. refused to move either of those or a 1st for him? That is the one problem with all of us guessing, they are just guesses.

Who needs Kylington or Andersson? We have Brandon Crawley, something kid from finland that looks like Reunion, and the ghost of Thomas Pock

Reunanen is a legit prospect, dude! Don't agitate me!

But yeah, it's better to have more prospects on defense and increase our chances at one of them working out.

If you’ve been following @BBKers on this subject, he’s long been saying that Dallas has been long enamored with Zuccarello. He gives them a proven top six winger to complement Seguin, Benn and Radulov, to whom they’ve made long-term commitments to. It wouldn’t surprise me if Brassard ended up there. So, I think the commitment is there from Dallas. The question becomes Zuccarello. If he likes Dallas, he’ll get the payout he’s looking for.

That's a hell of a top 6 and Zucc isn't going to cost more than $5M

They have 120 points worth of RW in Zucc and Radulov and it shouldn't cost them more than 10-11M

After the Zucc deal, i'm not expecting much for Hayes.

2nd and B prospect.

It's better to go into the trade with this mindset to protect your sanity, but you can pick your hopes on the fact that center is the more important position and Hayes is a lot younger than MZA. I'm ready to be disappointed though, as usual being a fan of this team.

I still feel Zuc signs in Dallas...we get one 1st. Imagine if both conditions get met, would be an absolute steal of a deal.

IMO this deal works the absolute best if they miss the playoffs this year, sign Zucc, and the wheels fall off next year and we get a really good lottery pick.

Which is actually an entirely possible scenario.

Objectively speaking this trade is pretty fair. A 32 year old UFA to be simply isn't going to get you a first round pick or a top prospect. Before he got hot people were willing to trade him for a bag of pucks, so let's just be happy we got what we got

The Hayes trade should be somewhere around what we got for Nash in all honesty, he seems to be the best center available so who knows
Maybe a bit less looking at prices but certainly a 1st and a decent prospect. I think Boston thought we were doing them a favor by taking Spooner for 1/2 of Beleskey, so the Strome outcome makes that trade seem even better.

So who would be in the Hayes market? WIN, CAL, NASH, NYI, STL, SJS

The only 3 other UFA Cs worth mentioning are Brass, Staal, and MoJo, so someone will go the distance to get Hayes.

Please JG get us a good return for Hayes. The way things are going our pick isn't gonna be that great unless some miracle happens

Quiet morning, but Stone situation could be what is causing that but could be coming to a head.

The Sens are a bunch of assholes. If they don't wind up signing at least Stone they should be banished to siberia

The reality is this deal most likely ends as us getting a 2nd and 3rd. And when it does that's overall a bit of an underwhelming return.

BUT:
That 2nd is likely to be as high of one as they were likely going to get.
If any of the conditions are met its a huge win.
If he resigns with Dallas and the wheels fall off next year for them this could turn into an all-time fleecing.

Again, unlikely for that to happen but I don't really think there was another deal out there that has this much potential to score a jackpot. People constantly complain about not getting that high end talent. Here is us buying a lottery ticket. Having trouble seeing the people who are constantly bringing up the high end talent point turning around and arguing that Gorton didn't get enough here. If you want that high end piece you shouldn't be too concerned that we didn't get another 2nd rounder over this option.

Guys we have a better chance of getting Hughes than Getting those two firsts from Dallas. In fact probably getting one of them would be a stretch.
