With NYR having so many defence prospects there isnt that sharp cut off on a top 3 or top 4 like some other tems have. We just got a long line from Miller/Lundkvist to Crawley/Day with prospects with different ceilings and timelines. We are just missing that top RD prospect like a Andersson or Fabbro.
The core of our defence for our rebuildt is in place, I expect a heavy focus on forwards the next couple of drafts.

This suits the timeline good aswell, as D's usualy take longer time to enter their prime.

Hank blowing his stack again smashing his stick.

Maybe he’s not into the rebuild as much as before.

JG ask him again.
Yeah. But he will be a summer move if he ever moves. I could see him traded with 50% retained to St. Louis or Calgary if their golie woes continue trough this playoff.

Dallas didn't acquire Zuccarello with the thought that he is a bad player and not worth having long term. Let's start there and have some semblance of reality. Dallas just gave up 2 assets for a rental.

This is a player they have had interest in for a long time. This trade hopefully puts them over the top and into the playoffs. It also gives them a leg up on showing him Dallas, the players, the facilities. They can have conversations. This gives Dallas a head start on signing a player they have scouted before.

The conditions are there because he, by his own admission, played bad when he was unhappy. Dallas needs to vet him as much as Zuccarello needs to vet them. If he plays well, that means both sides are happy and there is a good chance he stays.
No one seems to want to understand, there is not only two options on the Zucc extend condition.

If it turns out Dallas wants to extend him, but are unwilling to give up their 2020 1st, are they just going to give up on extending him or are they going to talk to the Rangers about making another trade with the Rangers that perhaps changes the conditions?

Things can change between now and then, based on the other condition, how Dallas does between now and then, what other choices they make on who they are going to try to extend, or even what other trades they have talked about, etc.

If the first condition remains a 2nd, which is likely, that still give the Rangers something to talk to them about, if it actually, low odds turns to a 1st, that is even more for them to talk about.

Trades in the NHL are difficult, conditional trades based on what transpires are always a reason to talk, if leverage changes between now and then, one way to the other, they are still reasons for teams to budge on something they were not willing to before.

I am I predicting more than a 2nd and 3rd? No. Am I thinking something else could happen other than that or two 1st, for sure.

What the....

They certainly have both roster players and futures to offer.

Have to imagine Palat or Killorn get dealt for cap purposes as part or that deal or in a separate deal. The Rangers can play into this too.

To TB: Ristolainen

To BUF: Palat, Katchook, TB 1st 2019 (Rangers get TB's 2nd rounder), Cernak

To NYR: Callahan, aforementioned TB 2nd (thusly removing the Cup winning condition for the last deal), Taylor Raddysh, TB 2020 3rd

Good call on Calgary. Smith is a UFA after this season.

Why wait if Hank might want that chance on a really good team.

Take back Smith this year move forward with Georgie.

Package Hank with Hayes Calgary would be possible the best team in the West. Again we need to take back salary in Smith but I wonder if he would even consider it.

I don't believe Tampa is looking for a RHD unless they're looking to upgrade one. Cernak has been good.

No thanks. Not enough from a Rangers perspective

Not good for the Rangers. Gives Tampa cap relief, lose the chance at getting a #1 for Raddysh and a 3rd? No thanks.

Would have to be Callahan, the 2nd in 2019, Raddysh and 2020 #1.

I don't think Hank will wave his NMT on a whim 1 day before deadline. A decision like this should be taken after some consideration. Also I doubt he would be playing today if he was a serious talking point for a trade at this point.

I can see CGY interested in Georgiev but I'd be more than happy to give them Lundqvist @ 50% if he waived his NMC.. I HIGHLY doubt it tho

How does them missing the playoffs, and us getting their 2nd round pick (say 45th pick) work out better than them going to the WCF and us getting their 1st round pick (around 28th)?
I was essentially saying I’d prefer a mid second and top 10 first over two late firsts. If If only one of the conditions is met, I’d prefer it be on next year’s pick.

I suppose it’s technically possible that they get to the WCF, sign Zucc, and then the wheels fall off but I think that’s a much taller order than what I’m hoping for.

Assistant GM Conroy says they are likely gonna get a D if they add... not confident on Hayes ?

Any move for NYR after the game ? They can’t scratch anyone but the UFA guys or they wouldn’t of had enough players

Even if he did waive the return would likely not be worth having $4.25MM of dead cap space for 2 more years after this season. Would almost be $9MM in dead cap space between Girardi, Lundqvist and Spooner next season.

Agreed just throwing it out there.

It would be hard for JG to put a deal together that fast but you know he’s been talking to Calgary and should have a good idea of what they could do.

I don't think we will be able to compete until 21-22 season when all of Hank, Staal, Smith and Shattenkirk is off the books. Think using some dead cap on retaining Hank will net us more assets then just taking on a bad contract from a contender. ALso a pissed off grumpy Hank is not something I would have around the kids getting their feet wet in the NHL.

If the Rangers win the lotto the direction of the rebuild changes. Dont see them committing to eating that much dead space until the offseason and the draft completed.

With CBJ all in, Bob known for his playoff struggles and his best friend Zuc gone, would it be so crazy for JD to call Hank and convince him on coming to Columbus? Then they have their goalie for their next three runs.

On a positive note. Vesey and Names building trade value if the Rangers wish to deal them.
At this point I think the Rangers keep them but both have had good games lately.
Also don’t see the Rangers dealing CK so guessing our first line moving forward is

Vesey/Zibs/CK

It'd be pretty crazy imo. He said he didn't want to go anywhere just least year, I doubt he suddenly wants to move and wants to go to Columbus of all places to spend the rest of his career on a different team, especially one that might have Duchene, Panarin an Bob all walk in a few months.

Its hard to predict when we will be able to compete when we have no clue as to how the draft will go and whether any of the so called prized prospects we picked the last 2 years turn into anything. So far the draft 2 years ago has been disappointing considering we had 2 first round picks who have struggled. Sure they are young but you need picks like these to turn out to be good otherwise you are not building anything.

Lundqvist isn't going anywhere so long as his hair guy remains in New York.

Former Rangers of the mid west in

That might be a harder sell.
